RUNNNN, don't walk, and book Mina!!!! My hair was an absolute DISASTER ZONE after a horrific…read morehaircut at a different salon, and after just ~45 minutes I left Elie Tanous Salon feeling so much happier and more confident. Mina is beyond kind, has a wonderful sense of humor, and was so damn knowledgeable about my hair type and what was wrong with my previous cut. She explained exactly what she needed to do to set me right. Her skill and experience let her salvage *way* more length than I thought possible; I was resigning myself to needing to chop **a lot** off to make it look good again after the botch job I came in with. BACKGROUND: I've been going to the same stylist out of state since I was 16 years old (so, nearly 17 years). When she retired, I trusted her colleague to take care of me until my latest cut was butchered. I saw reviews for Elie Tanous Salon, saw it was literally half a mile from my work, and RAN on in during a break. While my hair is super cute overall and looks as good as possible given the starting-point, I don't want to do Mina the disservice of posting before and after pictures just yet. She explained that the front of my hair needs to grow out and re-thicken a bit after the previous fiasco (the face-framing layers I asked for on the previous cut came out as two uneven, horizontal shelves of hair). Plus I didn't have time for Mina to touch up my color. Meantime, even though it's by necessity a work in progress, I'm SO happy and know I'm in good hands!

Very disappointing experience -- $900 plus tip for results that didn't last…read more I spent $900, plus a substantial tip, at this salon for root color, highlights, and a keratin straightening treatment. At that price, I expected professional-quality results that would last. Unfortunately, I was extremely disappointed. Just four days after my appointment, my gray roots were already showing, and I had to return to the salon to have the color addressed. The keratin treatment was equally disappointing. My hair was frizzy from the very first time I washed it, and now, two weeks later, it is still just as frizzy as it was before the treatment. I specifically paid for the keratin treatment to help control the frizz, so seeing essentially no improvement was incredibly frustrating. I believe customers deserve to receive results that justify this level of expense. Unfortunately, based on my experience, I would not recommend this salon.

I had seen it passing by many times but went there for the first time a few days ago for a wash,…read morecut and dry I had read good reviews so was hoping things would go well. And let me tell you it was an excellent experience Fe did a great job at cutting and styling my hair along with a very pleasant conversation And they made sure that I was comfortable and well taken care of the entire time I was in the salon. I will definitely be going back to Esmeralda's every time from now on.

I worked two 12 hour shifts and was unable to go to the salon to get it fixed until my day off today. I just called the business to request a refund or restyle and the owner picked up the phone and immediately started yelling and cursing at me through the phone when I told her my hair started flaking. I tried to explain to her the products she used caused my hair to flake and she told me I am a liar and that other customers love their products and treated me like I am a scammer for trying to resolve the issue three days later. For the owner to be acting like this shows what type of business this is. They will never be getting my money again. Do Not go here if you don't want to be disrespected when something doesn't go their way. They don't care about hair they care about money and selling you their products/services. Now I have to fix my own hair or go to another salon. Also after we got off the phone I have received 6 missed called of harassment back to back from this business. Please beware!

TL;DR: Lowlights rock…read more I had been to Jackie's years ago when I used to travel more frequently to the northeast. This time I had some downtime and swung by for a trim. She asked whether I want to try something different and suggested lowlights - I had never heard of the term but figured they're like highlights, just less obvious. The first and last time I had had toned down my hair (highlights, actually) was 22 years ago, but the AI photo apps had all suggested recently that I go blonde, so I thought this may be a first step in that direction. She said how long it takes depends on the individual's hair but should take no more than an hour, and I was intrigued. I can do an hour. I told her I really don't want that overbleached, orangish yellow color, and she was on the same page. We were going to aim for a light brown, but that could mean any number of things, right? It came out a copper-bronze that adds just a touch of light around my face. The color looks more obvious in certain angles depending on how my hair is tousled or parted, and I love how it shows up more prominently in the under-layers of my hair and when I put it up in a bun! This is a result of her gathering my hair, then taking some away in a zigzag before bleaching what remained in hand. I really like that she made the bleached hair blend with my natural hair. Btw, she's pretty opinionated and has a lot of comments, but knows her stuff. If you've ever been scared about toning down your hair color, give lowlights a try! It's very affordable here even with the wash and cut afterward. I was here a total of 1:30 including my wash and cut, during which three people walked in. She had to turn them away since she was doing my hair; one person came back at a time she had told him. Glad to see that it's a happening place but that she takes walk-ins like I did :D

After asking for the price she told me it'll be more than $150+ depending on if I wanted 8 or 10 and I'm old school lol that pricing threw me off because you can get some knotless box braids, literally a full head of braids for around that same price so I was definitely shocked that 8 BASIC CORN ROWS would cost over $150 or even close to $200! Especially since I wasn't asking for stitch braids. She also told me it's because I'm "adding hair and it will be about three hours to complete the service..." which again I've never had someone take THREE HOURS to do 8-10 cornrows, like what? THEN she proceeded to tell me "this isn't Harlem" mind you I'm not even from NYC or NJ so that was lame, and then she hung up the phone on me while I was still speaking. Although the price was high I would have considered keeping my appointment and just paying that unnecessary fee for 8-10 regular cornrows but unfortunately I couldn't because she hung up the phone and pissed me off. VERY TACKY AND UNPROFESSIONAL. She kept hinting at me not being able to afford the price that she is overcharging meanwhile you can be both shocked that something is expensive and still be able to afford it, so that didn't even make sense. She thought she ate with that but whomp whomp it didn't hit over here LOL. So, I called back and 100% called her out of her name because I felt she was disrespectful by saying "this isn't Harlem" and hanging up on a potential client. Then she went out of her way to text me as if she wasn't rude and unprofessional towards me on the phone, LOL. Moral of the story, the owner or whoever answers/makes appointments needs etiquette class or a good pop in the mouth :) You don't get to talk to people however or assume/call them broke because they don't wanna be overcharged for some simple straight back cornrows. Highly recommend finding another salon where the workers know how to keep it cute.
