While it was a little out of the way, I figured why not just go check it out. I got there about 10:40am and I was awkwardly the only shopper. The lady behind the counter, (presumably the owner?) said, 'Shopping for anything in particular' I said, 'nope just browsing', and that was the end of the conversation!! She didn't follow up with an 'Ok, well I'm blah-blah-blah, if you need help let me know,' or 'Our current sales are this...' or 'Have you been here before?' ... nothing. It was so awkward because I was the only person (besides her) in the store. There's no music or anything & you can literally hear each one of my steps as I mosey through the store, browsing. This was a bit shocking, considering the reviews raved about the cute clothes and superior service. The clothes, definitely cute. Very trendy, not outrageously overpriced, that of which you'd expect from a boutique. But the service, (if that's what you want to call it) was was nonexistent. In her defense, I was in a sweatshirt, running shorts and flip flops- hardly looked like I belonged in such a trendy store, but still no excuse for such poor service (and you shouldn't judge people on appearance, if that was the case). Not only that, She watched me as I walked through the store, and the second I was inches away from the door, she loudly yells, 'THANKS!' I guess that was kind. Anywhoo-- Cute clothes, but not worth time or effort. I'd go elsewhere.

She has some of the cutest items in the store ranging from jewelry to shoes. There is always the latest trends within this store! There are also some basic pieces that can add to your closet. The pricing is typical of a small boutique but there are good sales! I have purchased several items from here & have found that the quality of the clothing was great. The items held up well with washing & wearing. That is a reason I will continue to return & purchase things from this boutique.

I just thought it was hard to navigate if you are like me and are looking for a particular thing. Now, the prices were on the borderline of gouging. $50 for a plastic necklace? $35 for rhinestone hoop earrings? I've seen more unique pieces for less at other boutiques. The service was slightly off putting as well. I was one of three customers in the shop, and was asked three times within the 15 minutes I was there if I was doing alright. YES, let me shop woman. I'm not saying it was bad service, but edging on annoying. So after all this, you ask did I even buy anything? Yes, of course, I bought a scarf. I always do because I love them. I have to admit it was one I have never seen the likes of. But once again, $20 for an acrylic scarf? A bit steep. It checks all the boxes: Locally owned? Yep, Kansas City ownership all the way. Made in KC? Yes, not a ton of clothing made in KC except for all the billions of screen-printers, but those are usually on outsourced tees. Sustainable? Yep. Made from bamboo, the fastest growing plant. Quality? 100%, these are meant to last. Altruistic? Very, and let me explain: I didn't realize this, but after going into MADI they explained that underwear is the most needed, yet most under-donated item in the US. That's for places like domestic shelters, in disaster relief scenarios around the world, for sexual assault victims in crisis centers, and on and on. Now get this: For every intimate you buy at MADI, they donate a pair of underwear. That's pretty badass, and they are sincerely helping out in the world in so many ways. You can buy from their website, but if you're in KC you can pop into the fun little shop around the other shops and restaurants on the hill in the Westside, and I highly recommend you do -- and gents, this makes for a great surprise gift for the Ms./Mrs.

And I must say, I love love loved Madi Apparel! To start off with their products are beautiful! I adored the lavender dye they used for a previous season and fell in love with a cute pair of shorts in the lovely color. A shawl/sari/wrap rounded out my purchases, a beautiful deep wine color that I wore the next day at work! The service was incredibly friendly and warm, explaining their mission and drive to provide undergarments to women in need. All in all a great visit, I'd love to see an SF or Berkeley location!
