I think I should title this review "The Man Who Stole My Teeth"
I was optimistic when i first went to see this dentist. I had not read any reviews. Now, of course I have just returned from the first visit to a new dentist and the reality of my dental ordeal with K Mayall has revealed itself.
I DID NOT HAVE A PHOBIA OF DENTISTS UNTIL I WENT TO SEE THIS MAN
Aside from his his nonchalant demeanour, his unremitting condescending and patronising tone, and his obvious deeper interest in the used car magazine he seems to be perpetually thumbing I am now beginning to think he might actually be employing a dangerous tactic for financial gain at the cost of the well being of his patients.
One simple job: filling/crown combo. It took sooo long to get this treated, despite numerous visits, I had actually developed the habit of eating using the other side of my mouth. Still the dental visits continued with prodding and x-rays. Then suddenly a broke a tooth on the other side because i masticated so heavily with it as i tried to avoiding using the damaged and as yet un-repaired molar.
Naturally on the next Visit Mr Mayall saw the new damage to the new tooth on the other side. Oh yes, we must act of this one first before it gets any worse. Go and book another appointment and we'll draw up a new dental plan (and there is another cost, note that I stall have not had the initial tooth addressed). The next visit is so many months away, and includes a cancellation made while I am walking to the dentist, that by the time I find myself back in his chair both teeth are now is severe states and I have taken 5 or courses of antibiotics over the now 18 months.
Let us not forget that all the while his retains an utterly nonchalant, even vaguely dismissive disposition as he peers over the rim of glasses, looking up momentarily from that bloody auto-trader magazine he studies religiously.
Oh dear, well things have got worse, well this (newer) tooth now needs a root canal which will be 'ehem, a big wad of cash, and THEN we will look at what is now just a stump remaining of the initial molar. Go down stairs and book another appointment...
A considerable time later I had the horrendous ordeal of the root canal.
Over the years it had cost me considerable money - and add to that all the prescription costs for infections that occurred because the excessive periods between essential visits.
More recently, that stump had now chipped the molar underneath it. I have opted to visit a new dentist. I left Mr Mayall utterly demoralised, and angered by the years of treatment that could all have been sorted out in two swift sessions. It certainly would have generated far less money for him, but i would still have those teeth. I was really rather attached to them.
Last week I made an arrangement to see a new dentist at another practice. One week later I was in to see him (today), he asked me of the work he suggested what i wanted doing, it would all be covered under a single cost and will happen next week. Prompt, and avoiding a ladder of extra charges. To top it all, the new dentists was perfectly charming, conversational, seemed to genuinely have a passion and interest in his own line of work! Unfortunately whatever work Mr Mayall had done (and i had paid for) all needs to come out. I am now losing three teeth because Mr Mayall dragged his feet and milked my situation. To be frank the man disgusts me. Go and see someone else. Anyone else. read more
