If I could give this place and their shady practices zero Stars I would. The facility itself is fine as a gym and actually has some pretty intense and fun hiit sessions. The problem is a douche name Coach Cam who lures you in with a promise of this free 28 day fitness challenge. He asks you what your goals are, for me it was being able to do a pull-up. He writes that down and creates a contract. But I thought it was free? you ask. Oh of course it is but we need a deposit so that you have skin in the game. Wtf? Of course you'll get it all back he promises but we really hope youll want to stick around. Fast forward 28 days and I'm still not able to do a pull-up. But guess, what that was part of the contract?! You can't do a pull up so we're going to keep your deposit. Are you kidding?! I demanded the return of my deposit and told him as much as I might like to join this gym I'm already a member at another gym like I had told you before we started and I'm not in a position to consider another membership until that one expires. "Do you really think that's fair" says coach cam. "You got to work out here for free." Um Yeah, that was the deal, you smarmy *$$. He refused to give me my money back. Literally said no. Thankfully American Express has my back and they immediately opened an investigation and returned my money. Beware of these gyms and their predatory practices. When a gym claims your workout is free, it should be free. Period. Sign a liability waiver but don't sign a fraudulent contract meant to take advantage of someone excited to try a new gym facility. read more

This gym is amazing. The style of training is perfect if you're trying to transform your body. The diet works if you follow it as well. Not a fan of the crazy diets you see online, this one's healthy and sustainable. Couldn't recommend coach Cam and this place more. This has been one of the best places I've worked out yet. Classes are planned out so you can do 5 days and get a full body workout including cardio. All the equipment is set up so it makes it easy to know what you're doing. Love the coaches as well, they make sure everything is done right and correct your form when you need it. Definitely recommend doing at least 1-2 workouts to see how you like it. read more

I've tried SO many different boutique gyms throughout Salt Lake City over the six years I've lived here and none of them have stuck. I've either gotten bored with the workouts or haven't felt motivated to continue going. I love lifting, but haven't been able to get into Crossfit, and other studios have been too cardio-focused for me personally. K Effect training has been the best thing for me - they mix up their workouts so I'm never bored, and they have the perfect mix of lifting days and cardio days. A new schedule is released every month, which keeps things fun and exciting. I started with K Effect for a 4-week challenge they were doing in February, and have stuck with them ever since. I honestly thought I was just going to do the challenge and then dip out and never come back again, but once I started going I realized I wasn't dreading my workouts like I usually did, I was actually looking forward to going and having a solid workout. The workouts are fun, challenging, and different every single class. They mix lifting with HIIT workouts - some workouts are lifting focused, others are cardio focused - and there's a great mix. They're also the perfect amount of time, and are typically about 45-50 minutes long. The community in this gym is also incredible. It's such a diverse mix of people and everyone is SO friendly and welcoming. It's always intimidating starting at a new gym, and I've never felt more welcome than I have been at K Effect. The coaches are amazing, the members are amazing - I love coming here. All of the coaches are so good at remembering everyone's names too - I don't know how they do it! I have been wanting to try KEffect for awhile now, since I saw the gym while working part time at Kohls. I decided to try out their 28 Day Shred Challenge not knowing what I was getting into. I met with Coach Cam who asked me a whole lot of questions about my nutrition, things and/or programs that worked, why I wanted to do this, and why now. He then told me about how the challenge worked. I felt a little nervous, but I figured what did I have to lose? Well... a lot actually! In my 28 days, I lost 10 lbs and 5% body weight... and I also lost all the inhibitions of showing up to a gym where I didn't know anyone. I gained 1 lb of muscle, new friends, a lot more confidence in knowing that my goals are attainable, and a lot more strength and stamina going into karate (especially for sparring). I really enjoyed (and missed) being around a community of people who enjoy and/or share similar goals and a place that challenges me to push a little harder. So, I decided to stay on as a member to give myself a shot at seeing my goal for weightloss/muscle gain through and making it stick! The coaches are so supportive and help you stay accountable, and the workouts are always new so it doesn't get boring. Extremely predatory. Their goal is to make you feel like a failure, and that you will continue to be one unless you pay them hundreds - thousands of dollars per month for their program. I came here for a 30-minute consultation to see how I felt about the space after seeing an instagram advertisement for a free 6-week, community-driven workout program. They started by giving me a printed questionnaire that included questions like, "When was the last time you were happy with your body?" and, "Considering you're here, why have you FAILED to meet your goals?" They also asked me, "What did you have for breakfast this morning? Don't bullshit me." Yuck! They then talked me through their most expensive program, which is over $1000 per month. I was there to learn about the free program. Nothing I said was ever met with encouragement. All of their responses were intended to make me feel like I was not enough. I am a very active person with healthy habits. I take care of myself. I was not looking to join a program to completely reshape my life- just some fun fitness classes to jump into and meet people. Finally, when they did let up and tell me about the free program, they said "oh we don't encourage the free program because nobody ever lasts in it. You have to have some skin in the game to actually commit." AKA they want you to pay hundreds/thousands of dollars for their program where they bully you into shape, I guess. Skip this place if you want to be around positive people with normal, healthy mindsets surrounding health and fitness. read more

K Effect Training - 5:30am workout buddies! - Gyms Near Me - Salt Lake City, Utah

Joined KEffect as part of the "FREE 28 Day Program". My partner and I joined as a couple and gave a deposit of $700 to join the Free 28 day program together. We had an initial Inbody Scan to assess where we stood with Body Fat Percentage, Weight, and Muscle mass percentage. The instructor doing the intake and setting your goal for the challenge assessed that I should be able to lose 6% body fat percentage in the 28 days shred challenge. My partner was given a different goal. As part of the couples challenge doing the 28 Day Shred together, my partner and I had to hit our goals set up by the gym instructor(s)/ manager, to get our $700 deposit back. If we didn't, the gym keeps the full deposit. There was a 20ish minute nutrition group call where one of the gym instructor(s)/manager went over a meal plan and recommended everyone buy these 3 supplements: Intra, 2 fat burners Burn AM and Burn PM. Burn PM is an appetite suppressant. He told us that almost all if not all of their gym members who buy all 3 supplements from the brand they recommend hit their goals for the Shred program. In front of everyone in the nutrition video group call, I was rudely told that I definitely need the fat burners. I had not asked what I needed. I had asked how to look into them for my own research. Not very professional. My partner and I worked out 3 times a week. There were a variety of exercises. We enjoyed them. For most of the program up until the last week and a half, instructors didn't correct anyone's form. I made a comment to a gym instructor about that, and the last week I was there they started making improvements. I appreciated that! The gym itself does not have great ventilation inside. I wear a mask for my own health and am able to workout at other gyms just fine with a mask. My asthma and the gym's poor ventilation made it difficult to go through the entire workouts due to a lack of ventilation. There were 2 additional Inbody scans throughout the 28 Day shred. I did not appreciate being told that I was eating too many cheat meals because I didn't drop in some area and that I should make sure to take both the fat burners and the appetite suppressants. I already followed the meal plan strictly and took both supplements. The gym instructors or manager that do the InBody Scans do not prepare you for them. Many factors come into play with this type of scan. If you're on your period, scan results are skewed. During my second scan, I was on my period. Other factors like time of day, level of hydration, temperature, and so much more influence the results. The gym instructors/manager that handles the scanning don't do a very good job of explaining the results or guiding the program's participants on how to prepare for an Inbody scan, nor do they explain or offer resources to understand the factors that come into play when doing a scan. Improvement in this area would make this a better experience and feel more honest. I did not appreciate the very pushy sales tactics when trying to get us to sign up for their membership or buy supplements from a company they recommended. My partner and I were given the same exact meal plan, with the exception that my partner had to eat a little bit more protein than me. We are two different body types, sexes, height, etc. It did not make sense that we had the same meal plan and ate the same things. The meal plan this gym provided was not personalized. They are too basic and provide very little information on how to learn to eat better for your individual needs. When signing up, my partner and I had very different fitness goals that were not factored into the meal plan nor the exercises we did in their group classes. I would neither recommend this program, gym, meal plan, and supplements. While I did not hit my goals, I enjoyed some of the workouts and people I met. The nutrition plan was quite lacking. The Inbody Scan experiences, encouragement of fat burners, appetite suppressants, and all the above were questionable. The negative experiences I had outweighed the positive ones. read more

I love this place. Kicks your butt but it's only 38 min so right when you want to quit it's over. It's very efficient and effective. The staff and the members are incredible. This gym has the best gym culture I've ever experienced. The coaches are attentive and uplifting. You can tell they care and want to be there. I discovered K Effect on Instagram and joined a 28-day shred challenge that they were offering. While I don't think the challenge was the right match for me, nor would I recommend it to others, there were a lot of valuable things that I gained from the experience. I did lose almost 15 lbs in a ridiculously short amount of time. The coaches gave me a ton of 1:1 support. The workouts are fun and so fast-paced that they're over in a jiff. Everyone at K Effect is super nice and welcoming and you'll never feel like an outsider. I also love watching other people lip-synch along to the music they play. This gym has a friendly atmosphere and welcomes people from all walks of life who are looking for a worthwhile physical change. K-Effect's classes promote community, so not only are you being motivated by your trainer but your teammates as well. Their trainers provide modifications so that the workout is catered to you! I appreciate how much the trainers help me and give me advice on my form. The studio is organized and sanitary. The workouts are set up before you arrive at class, so when you start class you just get right to it! I have been going to this gym for almost 4 months now and physically I feel stronger and even look leaner. Just by working out here, I've dropped my body fat percentage by 4%.
