We purchased skip-the-line tickets via Viator and rented the self-guided audio headsets (I think they were around $5 each, maybe a little more). The collection of art is beautiful, spanning many different periods. Their most famous piece is Klimt's The Kiss. I'll be honest -- I didn't know much about Gustav Klimt before, but after seeing his work, I'm now a big fan. After touring the art museum, stroll through the vast gardens. They are beautiful, both in the front and back.

The Sisi Museum was one that I visited, and all day long, the palace grounds are teeming with tourists. Even if you don't enter the palace, you can walk through the grounds, enjoy the garden, people watch, and enjoy watching the horse-drawn carriages. Baroque architecture heaven!

Also always inquiring if everything was ok. Now for the negatives. No snacks with the drinks, could give a small bowl of peanuts or so. Would be a nice touch. It gets very busy on the weekends so if you come for a drink and chat then forget it. A great place to party but not really for chatting with friends. Toilets are very small so there might be a queue. Over a pretty decent place. Will be back.

Disclaimer: I'm not heavy into opera or know a whole lot about them. However, this place was a WOW moment. Being in Vienna, the most incredible, historical, full of life, music and character, city in the world - a visit to the Opera House was needed. We are so glad we did! They have all kind of seat selections, balcony, floor and even standing for a more budget friendly approach. Our little balcony section was awesome though it had a heavily blocked view we were able to hear everything so clearly plus we had the little screens where you can follow along with the vocals. It was an unforgettable experience and so worth it if you're in Vienna visiting. You can also book tours and learn all about the history of the opera house which I think would be fascinating to learn.

This was truly an unforgettable experience and one of those bucket-list items you absolutely have to check off when visiting Vienna.

I would recommend reserving your tickets online and picking them up at least 30 minutes before the film begins. The food counter is a bit pricey for the limited selection, but its a normal cost within the Vienna area. The kino itself is clean and has various size auditoriums for different films. Today was a cool, rainy day in Vienna - a perfect day to go to the movies - and since I had no plans for the evening I stopped by the local Film Casino. The movie they were showing (this is not a multiplex) was awesome and really funny (A French film by a Portuguese director with German sub-titles), the seats are super comfortable, the concession stand is well-stocked, and the admission price is really fair. The interior design of the theatre is classic retro (except it's the real deal). This cinema both outside and inside looks like it stepped out of the fifties or at least what I imagine a movie theatre in the 1950s would have looked like. And the variety of films here is really diverse as are the film festivals they hold. This week is their "Slasher" film festival (in time for Halloween) .... and sometime they might have a French New Wave, or an American Gangster, or a Gay festival.... whatever. If you only feel comfortable seeing films in English, still check out the schedule because if the film is originally in the English language, they will show it in English with German sub-titles. Anyway, just go and enjoy a cool night out at the movies in Margareten!

I pretty much spent an hour sitting and looking at their exhibition of his paintings. While most of the art here is Renaissance or just after (and mainly Dutch, German, Italian, and French), there's other good stuff as well. If you like Spanish paintings, there's a lot of Diego Velasquez. Many of the exhibits have German and English descriptions of the art, but there are some that just have German, especially the ancient Greek/Roman and Egyptian parts of the museum. Of course, there are exhibits on relics from the Austro-Hungarian empire. The second (or kinda third) floor of the museum does not have much in terms of exhibits but has an extensive coin collection from that former empire. I liked some of the model ships they had to entertain the royalty during their long dinner parties. Knowing that I would go to other museums, I opt-ed for the 7 Museums annual pass for 53 Euros (as of this writing). It's worth it only if you go to at least two other museums. Just going to the Neue Hofburg across the street and the Imperial Treasury further down will equal the price you paid. I went to those, along with going to Kunsthistorisches another time and Imperial Carriage Museum at Schoenbrunn Palace. You also get re-entry privileges in case you wanted to get some food, because the cafe seemed pretty "touristy" here. Note, this pass does not get you into the Sisi Museum (or related ones) There aren't a ton of restrooms at this museum, so plan accordingly. You could probably cover this museum in about 90 minutes.

I did not know he was such a narcissistic twat until he went off to WWI and was humbled and matured by the soldiers he met. He really loved his wife, Edith, though who's to say if he would have stayed faithful if they both lived to old age. I had no idea he died at age 28, and he and his wife died within days of each other, and he died on Halloween 1918. There's a painting by Klimt I wanted to see, Death and Life, but unfortunately two of their floors were closed for some renovations, so I was disappointed that I was unable to view it during my visit to Vienna. When he saw it, he liked it too. Out popped the phone and off he wandered to take pictures. There is a small covered shopping area, sort of like a mall. You walk in and there are several small shops around a central bar. Some of the shops have an upstairs, so be sure to check everything out! Hubs isn't much of a shopper, so he got a drink at the bar while waiting for me to finish souvenir hunting before joining him. We each had a drink and I picked up some postcards. The bartender wasn't very talkative, but he was friendly and nice. The shops all carry different stuff, but each is quirky and artsy in it's own way....everything fits in in this area. People do live in these apartments so you can't go in, but my one request is that there are more photos of the apts inside. Of the four photos we do see, you can tell the apts are lined with same tiles and colors throughout. Would like to see more of the interior in photos, while keeping their privacy.
