Granted, I only had a single consultation with Dr. Young several years ago. He was very engaged, though not the warmest of all psychiatrists I had ever seen. Bonus points for taking a proper medical history as well as a psycho-social history - too many psychiatrists only do one or the other.
What I remember most vividly about him was that he challenged me. He didn't let me get away with skimming over uncomfortable details. I was overwhelmed, which is why I did not return for my second appointment. I was in the midst of struggling to make sense of my life story and he was asking too many difficult questions too soon.
Today, I would appreciate his approach (or what I remember of it). I dug up his name earlier today to check if he was an in-network provider for my current health insurance. Alas, he is not. I hope that I will be able to find another psychiatrist that challenges me like Dr. Young did. read more
