Strapped for a passport photo? It's unbelievable how it always seems to be expired when you need it - at least 6 months before you travel apparently. Usually you'd expect a post-office to be able to help you out, but this time they couldn't. Luckily I didn't have to travel miles to get a decent one because this Just Photos store was just next door to my GPO in Mortdale. Just as the name suggests, the store specialises in photos.
But you'd be surprised how far a photo will stretch; you can get your face printed on almost anything nowadays, from canvas prints and calendars, to growth charts and mouse pads.
They also have personal Kodak booths where you can easily transfer photos from whatever device you have and edit them too. Then you can ask them to print it for you straight from the booth. It's standard technology nowadays (and quite fun to play around with, I will admit), but we've come a long way from developing photos off those finicky camera film rolls.
As for the passport photos, the picture itself was literally snappy (sit down, don't smile, click!) that it took about ten minutes to process. I was out of there before I had a chance to order in a mug for my dad with my face on it. It only cost me $13 for four prints (that's $3.25) which might seem a bit expensive for a piece of paper, but considering the rules for today's passport police, you'd best get it done by the experts. read more
