I'm hoping that I can save someone else the time, money, and frustration of working with Just In Time Professional Contracting.
Justin is the most dishonest and unreliable contractor I have ever worked with - unfortunately, this is the way that I learned the myriad ways a contractor will try to take advantage of a homeowner. I put down a 50% deposit on 8/30 (because he wouldn't start the work without it, despite me providing the supplies - which I've since learned neither is standard practice), and as of 10/23 the work is just barely half done. His original estimate was that it would take 4 days - yes, there has been a good amount of rain, but when your "team" shows up for a few hours every couple of weeks, it slows down the progress, no? Add to that that they don't actually know how to do the things that they say they know how to do, their team is made up of him and his wife and occasionally another guy Joe who spends most of his time pacing up and down the alley arguing with someone on the phone, you can probably guess where this is going. Not far.
I tried not to concern myself that they had zero safety equipment, but I *was* concerned when they left my demo'd railings next to my front sidewalk with nails sticking out of them - ready for the neighborhood children and many passers-by to impale themselves. I was also concerned that Justin's method for "removing" the railings was to literally kick them down, so yes, of course there are holes in my siding now.
What else? They also painted the entire front of my house which was not on the scope of work. I guess it's good that they didn't even clean the siding before spraying it, so the paint should come off very soon.
Justin also welded a gate for me - I let him know that there were two wobbly pieces on it. Then there was one wobbly piece as the other had come off. Then both pieces were off. I asked if he would come back to fix it and I got a "yes" twice, but absolutely no follow-up.
This is also not surprising, as his communication is close to non-existent. Eventually, I just stopped getting any response from him and only the guy Joe showed up - Joe let me know that Justin, the business owner, would not be finishing the job so he was going to instead.
Joe ended up taking $300 from me, so finally I learned my lesson (better late than never?), and am working with the company that my neighbors recommended when they had an intervention with me about a month ago after watching Justin's "professional" contracting company running a circus outside my house.
So, again, just hoping to save some of my neighbors the time, money, and frustration. read more
