We've had the pleasure of working with Junshien to photoshoot both our engagement session in October 2025 and our wedding in March 2026. We are both fairly awkward folks and were nervous that our engagement & wedding day photos would turn out a little less than perfect. From our first Zoom meeting, it was clear that we were in expert hands. Junsien's process is very detailed, well thought out, and clearly communicated. My husband and I were an impacted 2020 covid wedding and ended up canceling our original plans - Junshien was so gracious as a vendor on how and when we used our deposit such that we had the pleasure of doing a maternity shoot with him this past April :) I had a lot of ideas in mind and Junshien did as well so we got to try so many different spots, poses, and props in the 1.5 hr time period and shoot location. I had known for years that I wanted Junshien to photograph my future wedding, even before I met my husband! A friend hired Junshien for her wedding photos years and years ago, and ever since I saw the photos, I knew! We had interviewed another photographer as well (somewhat as a courtesy, and just to be sure), but they didn't compare to the knowledge, professionalism, and supreme detail-oriented nature of Junshien. Plus, he is just so pleasant to be around. I can honestly say that he (and our videographer) were the best spent money in all of our wedding one year ago! We had both our engagement session and wedding shot by him. Both were fantastic experiences. Junshien was so professional and knowledgeable. If you've ever heard the phrase "I didn't know what I didn't know," it definitely applied to me and wedding photography. In some ways, Junshien also acted as a second, even better, wedding coordinator. He had a timeline (nearly minute by minute) drawn up for our wedding, including when the sunset was on that day, when the best light would be, etc....I had no idea anyone planned that kind of thing! For our engagement session he weighed in on what to wear, bring, and helped us with poses, so I should have expected that he'd leave no stone unturned. It was honestly really good for us to have that kind of guidance because I found the more granular details of wedding planning to be overwhelming at times. On the day of our wedding, Junshien and his second shooter Tony arrived to our venue early and went straight to work. He even went the extra mile and brought me a speaker for music while I was getting ready with my bridal party...which I forgot to give back in the chaos of our wedding day! We went to Junshien with extremely high recommendations from several of our friends, even a few who are also wedding photographers. We met with him in his SF office, discussed our vision, and had a chance to review some of his work. We had a series of questions to ask any potential photography vendor and we were more than comfortable with all of his responses (regarding second shooter, pricing, timeline, etc.) But what was most reassuring was that Junshien truly took the time to get to know us and determine what was most important for our special day. Also, we were hoping to have a vintage, carnival-themed wedding, so we wanted to make sure we had someone who could help bring this to life. Once we expressed interest in booking with Junshien, Christina communicated with us very regularly ensuring we signed the contract (managed through HoneyBook), submitted payment, reviewed tips for our engagement session, received engagement teasers and official photos, were able to print engagement photos for the wedding, scheduled a final timeline meeting, and received our wedding teasers and official photos through an easy-to-use online gallery. We had our engagement session at Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk and Junshien tried his best to work in the heat and with crowds of people. Our photos turned out unique and fun, but we were able to learn how fantastic it was to work with Junshien. He made us feel at ease, made us laugh, suggested some creative shots, and also listened to some of our desires (ex. we really wanted some cool shots on the ferris wheel). Unfortunately, it was one of the most gorgeous beach days of the year so there were quite a few people in some of our photos. We would recommend making sure that you do your photo shoot at a time when there are less people around to get in your shots. Our wedding day experience was better than we could have hoped for. Junshien and his team were timely, worked very efficiently and creatively with our timeline, made our wedding party feel calm, and worked so well with our other vendors (planners, video, hotel, etc.) We still think back to how much fun it was to take our couple and group photos-- something that we thought might have been rushed or inconvenient with everything else happening that day. Junshien is an absolutely amazing wedding photographer and we highly recommend working with him!! He did our engagement shoot and wedding photo/video, and wow! The photos and video were beautiful, bright, vibrant, and captured our wedding in such a special way. We were so impressed with Junshien's expertise every step of the way! My husband and I are honestly pretty clueless about how to take nice photos and how to pose/look etc. We felt nervous and awkward because we are not used to taking professional photos. Junshien made us feel so comfortable by giving us clear instructions and guidance on what to do, where to look, and how to pose. He was ready with ideas for pose after pose, so everything flowed very well and he was super efficient. Our dog was also included in both our engagement shoot and wedding, and Junshien was very warm and welcoming to our dog and helped incorporate him in really cute ways in our photos! This is my first time ever writing a review on Yelp but I feel I have to do so. Simply because I am sooooo happy that we worked with Junshien!! Junshien was the photographer for our wedding reception in San Francisco. Before the big day, he took the time and discussed lots of details with us over facetime. He asked us lots of questions that we did not even think about, which was really helpful. It clearly shows that he knows how to be a good wedding photographer. And he really did every single thing we discussed. During the wedding reception, he arrived early, and blended into the crowds. I think that is very important for a successful wedding photographer, as you don't want someone that looks very obvious walking around during your wedding. After about three weeks, we got our photos and we were both AMAZED!!! Junshien really has the talent of catching important moments. Looking at those photos reminds us of all the laughter that night! The whole entire crew is amazing and most importantly, I absolutely love our engagement pictures! I did a lot of planning for the engagement pictures because I had all these ideas (woodland romance and beach theme?) and I was nervous to see how they would turn out. But I had absolutely no reason to worry as Junshien's team was able to help my vision materialize into these stunning photos. Communication with Christina was easy and she was sweet and easygoing. And last but definitely not least, as my cousin said, my makeup was on point! Christina consulted with me to help plan what hairstyle would work best with my hair type and our themes. We were so lucky that she was available during the shoot as well because she was there to do touchups. I seriously wish I had her around 24/7 so that she could make me look that good all the time! Tony was our photographer with talent and boundless energy! He kept us going (after hiking to our shoot location and then freezing on the beach). After contacting him regarding my ideas for the shoot, he even brought additional props for us to use. Although we didn't use them, it was a thoughtful gesture. Tony was able to see unique angles and also capture "us" as well. That was really important to me. I didn't want just posed pictures of us. We just look happy together in all the pictures. To understand why my 5 stars should actually be 100 stars, you have to understand something personal about me. I hate getting my pictures taken. In general, the only one that can take my picture is ME with the liberal use of the "delete" button and the help of photoshop. Others have tried, and for those that are uber-persistent and chase me around despite my repeated pleas... at some point I stop, turn around, and threaten not only to grab their camera away from them, but smash it as well (aka. there is an embarrassing video of me at some really old dad's company party that's gotten me banned from all subsequent events). There are a very few I'd trust to take my pictures. One of those at the very top of the list is Junshien. I saw the pics from an engagement session he did for some friends of mine years back and always wanted thought to get some pics of my own done sometime. Finally with the big "30" coming up, I committed to it. And it was really fun. Junshien was able to work within my budget and tailor a package specifically based on what I wanted and where I wanted to do it. Junshien was friendly and put me completely at ease. When finding myself self-conscious about being in full makeup and curled hair in broad daylight on Santana Row, he encouragingly kept saying, "Don't worry, you'll never see these people again for the rest of your life". Throughout all the crazy costume changes I did in the backseat of the car to save time, Junshien kept a sharp lookout that no one could see me. When I was shivering with cold towards the end of the shoot he lent me his jacket and was a perfect gentleman throughout. It was adventurous, walking over railroad tracks in 4 1/2" stiletto heels, lying down on the driveway near someone's house, quickly shuffling from place to place for a few quick pics. It was interesting walking with him and seeing what would suddenly catch his eye or imagination. As for how the pictures turned out... I think some of the feedback I got from my close friends would probably be the most telling. Brother: "wow sis! I haven't seen you smile for photos since you were like 8 o_O" BF: "you look f----ing hot" + kept on muttering while looking through the pictures, "How did he get you to smile so much?!" Lori: "You look amazing!" Jin: "=) LOVE them!!" Tinna: "wow, they look great! :)" Neko M: "You look awesome! What do you mean you are not photogenic, tsk tsk : )" Ion: "You shine brightest when you smile 8-)" Teddy: "Chiyan, these pictures are wonderful!" The makeup artist had noticed people who go for a photosession end up going back to him multiple times, each time with a different theme or idea. They get hooked on it. Let me start by saying this: Junshien is one of the best photographers I know. Not just wedding photographers, he is one of the best photographers, period. And to restrict him to that one profession is actually unfair. I say all this not because we chose him to be our wedding photographer, but because of the way he conducts himself on a daily basis and how his work is his life and his life is his work. We first spoke to Junshien over the phone to discuss our wedding package. We had a vision for how we wanted our wedding photos to look and Junshien fulfilled that vision perfectly. Without going into too much detail--since you can peruse his portfolio on his (very good) website--we felt that Junshien's style told a story, each photo induced an emotion, and basically made his subjects shine like stars. After a disappointing engagement shoot by a photographer we hired prior to Junshien, we had let the first photographer go and unfortunately (but totally appropriate), we lost our deposit with that photographer. So our tight budget became even more tight. Over the phone, Junshien empathized with our situation and immediately proposed a financial solution that made hiring him a reality. We were very happy with his flexibility. Upon officially engaging him as our wedding photographer, Junshien sent a detailed to-do list on how to prepare for the engagement photo shoot. It was basically the do's and don'ts of how look the best under the lens like exaggerating make-up and getting lots of rest the night before the shoot so we don't look like zombies. It was this attention to detail by our photographer we were looking for from the beginning. Our engagement shoot was in Sonoma, CA. We met in the popular town square area on a perfectly sunny day in early spring. While Junshien did use a few landmarks as the backdrop, the majority of the photos were taken where interesting angles, colors, and shapes existed such as random alleyways or an open grassy area (in which everyone's shoes, including my wife's heels, sunk into the wet mud) that lead to a deserted house. Yes, I understand that this is typical of a photographer, but given our experience with our first photographer, we really appreciated Junshien's artistic approach. Not only this, but Junshien's direction during the photo shoot was exemplary. He instructed us on exactly how he wanted us to stand, hold our hands, cross our arms, lean, laugh, smile, look important, and be romantic. (Junshien did make a point of how much I sucked at all of it during the wedding, all joking of course...and he's right, I'm not a natural, but boy did he do a good job of hiding my deficiencies at becoming America's Next Top Model). At the end of the day, Junshien provided everything we were looking for. I had previously wrote a review for this photographer and it was deleted. Recently I had another chance to work with Junshien at my own wedding! The whole process of working with the team was easy, smooth, and friendly- all things brides need with the hecticness of planning the wedding! There were many small details that the team caught that I had overlooked. They also sent a lot of useful tips for planning and day of items that were super helpful. The day of the wedding was a big blur! But Junshien and his team were able to capture each moment of the day perfectly so that I was able to look at the photos and think "I remember that!" I cannot rave about Junshien enough. I first saw his work a few months before I got engaged (good timing!) and I just KNEW he was the photographer for our wedding. His pictures are vibrant, artful, and lively. They honestly took my breathe away. The kicker is that making such great art doesn't go to his head. Junshien is an extremely sweet and down-to-earth person. He is very comfortable to be around, which is so very important when it comes to your big day. All in all, we don't regret splurging on quality photos of our engagement and wedding because it ended up being worth every penny. We hired Junshien for our June wedding and we were very pleased. He is easy to work with because he makes you feel comfortable... he kept us laughing during our wedding and engagement session and our bridal party commented on how funny he was. Keep in mind, it was so hot on our wedding day there was a heat advisory. Still, Junshien never complained and he had enough energy to keep our spirits up. He and his assistant arrived early in the morning and stayed after our brunch reception (almost ten hours) so that we could get more pictures. His professional demeanor was also appropriate. Very responsive to emails and calls so any time we had a question or needed to talk, he was available. Though we were married in California, we lived on the east coast for most of the wedding planning process so his willingness to keep in touch was important to us. We were even able to do our engagement session back east because he was already traveling to the area to photograph other clients. He seems to always be on the go, which was nice for us... we were looking for someone with lots of creativity and energy. The pictures we received were beautiful. It is a matter of taste but we were originally drawn to the vibrant colors and spontaneity of the pictures in his portfolio and were happy to see those things in our own pictures. I strongly encourage you to check out his website for yourself. He is constantly updating his website with his current work, which is nice because you get to see what he is up to THIS YEAR, not what he was up to three years ago. Junshien was also flexible about our package. We did not realize that the mini parent albums included in our package were 5"x5" albums. Those are just way too small. However, we were able to credit the parent albums toward enhancing our own wedding album. This was nice for us because we were able to put money toward things we wanted and he was very honest and fair about the credits we had built up. We haven't received our wedding album yet but I will try to update our review when we do. Overall, very pleased with photography by Junshien and would certainly recommend him to others. I am a simple girl. I've never been one to take countless pictures of myself to put on Facebook or what not. In fact, whenever the camera comes up, my smile flies out the door and I'm left with nothing but a horrible expression captured on film. I'm much better at taking pictures of things non-me related. Weddings are terribly stressful and even with all the planning, things go wrong and you look back and regret on some of the decisions made. The one decision my (now) husband and I wholeheartedly believe we made thee best choice was choosing Junshien as our photographer. His photos "spoke to us". Colors were vibrant, but not overly exaggerated. Angles were purposely selected to tell a story. Most importantly, the pictures are natural and do not look processed or photoshopped. If you're looking for a photographer who is genuinely nice, passionate about photography, extremely talented, professional, and fun, then Junshien is THE ONE! My husband and I met Junshien through a mutual friend back in 2008. At that time we were still searching for someone to shoot our August 2009 wedding. I can honestly say that we instantly "clicked" with him. I'm sure he gets this all the time, but he's seriously one of the nicest guys you will ever meet. Since we really liked Junshien's personality we felt that he would be a great choice as a photographer. We looked online at his website, blog, and portfolio and was instantly drawn to his style and amazing talent. We decided to book him right away (about 1.5 years in advance) for our wedding. Working with Junshien was a breeze. He was always responsive and e-mailed us back in a timely manner. He was always respectful in that he would ask for our opinions and worked within our budget. Our package included a 2 hour engagement session with Junshien which I highly recommend to all brides and grooms. The engagement session allows you to get to know your photographer better and gives you a glimpse of how things will flow (in terms of photography) during the actual wedding day. At first we felt kind of awkward trying to act natural in front of the camera, but Junshien really put us at ease and made us feel comfortable. On the day of the wedding, Junshien and his second shooter arrived promptly and quickly got to work. We had about 10 hours of wedding day coverage and he captured a lot of beautiful, intimate, and fun moments at our wedding. When we received our wedding album, we were absolutely blown away at all the images and the quality of them. Junshien did an incredible job and we're still getting compliments on our engagement and wedding pictures after a year later. I would recommend booking Junshien as soon as possible, at least in a year in advance since quality photographers get booked up pretty quickly. #1111 review. Plenty of 1's for an awesome amazing photographer. We booked Junshien for our wedding and we're super excited to see the pictures. I'm reserving my last star for when we see the results. A little bit of background on me... Back in 2005, I was finishing up in college when I came across some blogs. In them, I became fascinated with Scott Robert's work. Unfortunately back then, his price range was WAY out of my price range and I had no groom or potential groom in sight. A bride had blogged about Junshien and I started following his work when he used to post on Xanga. (Yeah, talk about scary stalker right??) So now fast forward 5 years, I was happily engaged and now I had to convince my then fiance/now husband that I NEEDED to book this photographer since I had my heart set on this guy shooting my wedding before I even met my fiance. Hm... that didn't come out right. Now if my fiance/now husband didn't care much about photographer, it would be a cinch, but he's the type to obsess about taking pictures/shooting and hiding out behind his dslr like me. In the end, he gave me his blessing after a very tense meeting with Junshien and I wrote out a check for the deposit (and cried since it was painful) and happily awaited our day. We had an engagement shoot which was painfully uncomfortable for me since I hate being in front of the camera but resulted in what I hope to be are beautiful wedding pictures. Junshien is a-m-a-z-i-n-g! The photo shoot he did with our nephew and family was a lot of fun. The pictures turned out amazing and vibrant! Junshien has this incredible way with kids. On the day of our shoot, our little one was a cranky little monster. Junshien jumped around, makes silly noises, and somehow managed to make our nephew laugh and smile and we ended up with the BEST pictures of him. Junshien also excels the most is in his post-production skills. We also used him for our Junshien photos and it's been amazing to work with him. He makes the whole experience stress free and fun! I've been a fan of Junshien for the past ten years, and being able to work with him during our engagement session was absolutely incredible! From the start, the communication was super prompt and clear. He gave us detailed instructions of what to wear, props to bring, Etc. On the engagement day, we were super late, but Junshien was very accommodating and worked with us with the short time that we had. The weather condition that day was extremely windy, and the wind makes the 54 degrees weather felt even more bone chilling! Nonetheless, with Junshien's directives and coaching we made it through. Because of the condition, I didn't have high hopes for the result of the photos but Junshien's phenomenal talent is clear in our photos. The photos were filled with brilliant colors and energy. The lighting was surreal. We also really appreciate how Junshien captures the little details of the setting. Loooove his attention to the details!! Lastly, the delivery was also prompt and easy. I'm going to give five stars right now, but my wedding is not until 08/31/08. Junshien is as good as it gets! My girlfriend and I have been following him like a crazy fan club. He is personable, wonderful with email (very important,) professional, and super sweet. Not to mention an extremely talented photographer. I will always remember when he went the extra mile at a shoot, even though it was 104 degrees outside and we were sweating like pigs! I am very happy with our engagement session. Update: Five stars all the way. Junshien is the best, our wedding pictures turned out wonderful! He was our favorite vendor, and a perfect choice. JUNSHIEN is such a talented photographer!! if yelp would allow me to give him more stars, i would so give him more!! I know he's a talented wedding photographer. However I wanted him to take some food photos for my new coffee/dessert shop, and he was so up for the task!! YES!! During our photo session, he was super neat and he exactly knew what he was doing. He took pictures of a sandwich, coffee, pesto danish, pasta, cheesecake and truffle lollipop!! When the proofs came out for me to choose, it was the most difficult thing that i had to do. They all look so amazing and after looking at them for 2 hours i had to stop, well it was because it all started to look the same. lol. At the end, when the photos came out from the lab, Junshien even delivered it to my shop and he even helped me put the photos on the menu board. WHAT A GENTLEMEN!!! =) and when those photos went up, i think i may had some tears in my eyes!! the photos just gave me a wake up call saying THIS is my shop!!! lol.... Junshien and his team is a breeze to work with. Their warm personality shows up in their photos. We are lucky to have both Junshien and Tony as our photographers on our wedding day! They reviewed our wedding schedule with us item by item, and made helpful suggestions. Most importantly, they really helped to control the time according to our plan so there was no delay. They also worked with our videographers really well like a team. "We never had a chance to take so many takes as we did with Junshien. Usually we had to steal the couple away from the photographers" says one of our videographers. Most important thing is, the photos turned out amazing! They captured every moment and every details we would love them to capture, and they are so natural yet beautiful. Junshien was our top pick as a photographer and we were overjoyed when we were able to book him for our wedding. When COVID changed all of our plans, he was so accommodating, offered alternative plans for our ever changing itinerary and put us at ease. My husband I both agreed that Junshien was our favorite vendor. It tells a lot about a person on how they deal with a crisis (pandemic) and he couldn't have been more professional. We got all of the pictures that we asked for plus more than we could've ever imagined. Our wedding was such a blur and it was nice to just sit down and relive it through all of the photos.
