This was a pretty chill place to grab a sandwich for lunch. I ordered a #4 which is basically a turkey roast with avocado with bacon. I got it on a nicely toasted Dutch Crunch roll. I was volunteering at the High School nearby and my group and I went to Jumpstart every week for some food and a coffee after our hours. The service was absolutely incredible, Peter made us feel right at home, and it made us look forward to coming every week. Good days and bad, coming to the bodega was always a pleasure. Was hanging out with my friend. We were hungry and he said he knew a place. We went to Jump Start. What a great bodega! Peter is great and makes an awesome sandwich. I got the #2 sandwich (roast beef, horseradish, cheese, lettuce, cheddar cheese). It was toasted and I got it on sliced sourdough. It was delicious. The cheese was melted and the horseradish gave the needed spice. There are a few tables inside. It's a very clean market space. Peter is very friendly and funny. My friend is a regular, and Peter was busting his chops, kinda teasing him. Peter said a zinger that made a UPS driver who was eating his sandwich laugh. Great vibe. Great food. On a cool, foggy day, the pastrami Reuben is nothing short of heaven! Great neighborhood spot here that reminds me of the East coast. Everyone who worked there were incredibly friendly and helpful to us. Solid little convenience store with alcohol, soft drinks and some snacks. I got the Pastrami Reuben Hot Sandwich which hit the spot after a long day of apartment hunting. Some seating is available outside as well for people watching. Jump Start is known for their breakfast sandwiches but I did not try on this trip. Sf has no shortage of incredible restaurants, but sometimes you just need a quality sandwich from the corner store/bodega to hit your craving. Jump Start is just that. read more

Came here awhile ago with my sister and dog and sat outside to eat. The sandwiches were excellent! What really makes this place amazing is the owner. I had ordered a coffee and my dog saw another dog, lunged and spilled my coffee which was on the table. I was a bit upset with my dog. We asked for some napkins. The owner instead made me a new coffee and asked if he could give me dog a treat. He told my dog it was not his fault for getting excited to see another dog, and gave him some fresh BACON. So classy. This place is an awesome neighborhood spot if you're in a pinch and can't make it to a full grocery store. They also have reasonably priced sandwiches and breakfast items. I noticed that a lot of items in the store don't have prices listed which can be annoying when it comes to make purchasing decisions. Best sandwich of my life. Period. I usually have the #4 on dutch crunch. And let me tell you, you're not going to have a more spiritual food experience for a sandwich anywhere else in the city. The lovely folks at Jump Start make food from the heart, and you can taste it. The sandwiches are ALWAYS packed; you'll never finish it wanting more. My dog watches me eat it, licking his lips. *BAGEL SANDWICH ALERT* *BAGEL SANDWICH ALERT* Yup, you read that right. They have bagel sandwiches. Since I moved here from NYC, something has been missing from my life. Bagels. I don't get it. How could something so ubiquitous and delicious in NYC not make its way to SF? It seems especially weird when you think about how many transplants are here. This place will make ya a bagel sandwich to boot. No, it's not quite like the kind you get in NYC. The bagels are fine but not great and the eggs are made in a microwave. But, there is love and care that goes into the sandwich and it's delicious never the less. I've also had the meatball sandwich and one more lunch-y sandwich with cream cheese on it. The meatball was good but the cream cheese one was a bit dry. I would just opt for avocado instead next time. This spot is a gem. Warm and welcoming, this coffee stop is a great place to unwind and relax after a long walk around the town or around the Mission. I usually come here for a pack of him before heading to work and the transactions are always very swift and prompt. The owner/cashier here is really friendly despite me coming over to say hi and grab a pack of gum real quick. Seating in this place should be noted. Most places just randomly add seating inside stores and makes it look awkward. Here, it blend in with the store and give it great character. I'll definitely have to spend lunch here and try out the sandwiches and falafel. read more

I frequent Jump Start a few times a week to pick up a made to order sandwich by Peter or one of his relatives. The sandwiches are varied and tasty, and the sandwich makers are friendly and efficient. Add an avocado - especially good on one of Peter's reasonably priced egg sandwiches. Jump Start is not just a corner market, but a hub of the local community. I don't really grocery shop, so I haven't ever bought much here, but whenever I need something random like ginger or paper plates, they seem to have it! I've lived in this neighborhood for 20 years. Yes, the Mission has changed. This used to be a nice corner coffee and sandwich place, but it looks like the greed has gotten to them as well. Maybe because there's a tech bus stop nearby they have decided to jack up their prices accordingly. I stopped by the other day to just get a simple cup of coffee before work. The basic drip roast in the thermos container that I wanted was empty, so no big deal, I chose another. I took what I thought was a small paper cup and proceeded to check out. I couldn't believe it when he told me it was $2.50 for the coffee. He said, "Yep, that's the going rate." Seriously? I can get a fancy coffee at Peets, Starbucks or the nice Caffe Fiore across the street where you can get an AMERICANO for $2.25. Which I'll be doing. Really disappointed by you Jump Start. #FAIL read more

Jump Start is exactly the kind of thing that we need more of in this city. First off the owner Peter is maybe the friendliest dude around. He also makes these TASTY sandwiches. The #4 Turkey is absolutely a treat for lunch. And the Meatball is also highly recommended. It's also a great place to pick up assorted items and snacks. When I was a kid and imagined a friendly, welcoming corner store that would fit into Sesame Street or where Mr. Roger's would go to grab a cup of coffee, I would have imagined Jump Start. There's a lot of care in this place, and they have the best coffee and sandwiches. I've had a lot of sandwiches in my life, but I simply love the simple breakfast sandwich here with egg and cheese on a bagel. It's always a community gathering of one or a few in the morning, with pets too. I love coming here for my morning cup of coffee and my sandwich. Peter also gives great advice (in case you were in need of some). On a practical level, the selection of drinks is varied, the food is high quality, and sandwiches are large and tasty. So the sign outside says "Brewed One Cup at a Time" I thought this would be Totally Awesome(tm). Instead this was probably the worst mocha I have ever had, hands down, and the manager was even worst! First I asked the friendly barrista if they had non-powdered chocolate, which they didn't. Looking back I should have taken this as a sign. So they used a chocolate flavored syrup. Then the barrista started to steam the milk for my iced mocha WTF!, and then rummaged out some old ice that loks like it was hanging out in their fridge for some time. I was asked if I wanted a double shot of espresso and said sure. So I get this fugly looking mocha and I thought well at least its cheap. No Dice! The barrista asks the manager the price, which said $2.60, on their signage, but he says $3.25. I decide ask about this and he gives me the evil-eye. Again, WTF! Then the barrista adds another 50 cents for a shot of crappy watery espresso. For a grand total of $4 after tax. I have had bad coffee, and when I know when to expect it I can temper my taste, but this was truly horrendous. I hope to some divine force that this place is banned from making coffee at some point in the future. Do yourself a favor: DO NOT GO, AT ALL COSTS! read more

But sometimes Peter, the proprietor, makes fun of me for being boring, so he picks something else for me. I'm also a fan of their bagels and coffee.
