Käseland (Cheese Land) is heaven on earth for cheese lovers. Located at the Naschmarkt, the staff…read moreis accustomed to "dealing with" tourists, thus non-German speakers, and seems all the more friendly therefrom. As another Yelper noted, their motto is "try before you buy," and an excellent example of this follows: I was at Käseland a few months back and wanted to try a Manchego cheese, having heard they are quite good cheeses. I asked the lady if they had any Manchego, which of course they did, and she proceeded to cut off a few slices.. From a wheel of cheese marked at €36,99/100 grams! The cheese was delicious, and all told she probably gave me and my fiancé about €5 worth of cheese just to taste! We kindly asked if she had a cheaper Manchego for sale, which they thankfully did (a younger cheese, priced around €2,99 to €3,99/100 grams.) The last time I visited Käseland - we go about once a week to get our weekly supply of cheese and our "fix", as it were - it was a busy Saturday at the Naschmarkt, and the owner of the store was there. He was super friendly - we don't see him very often - and after we'd ordered 3 or so cheeses, he asked where we were from. (We're both from the U.S., different states.) Even though we'd bought only about €9-10 worth of cheese, and it was quite busy in the store, he said, "hold on a minute," and made us a "snack" using a horseradish spread and one of the cheeses we'd just tried for the first time (and bought), on a Semmel roll (like french bread). The "snack" was probably another €5-7 worth of cheese and spread and bread, just for the hell of it. How cool and nice is that? (And no, there's no way he could have known I'm a Yelper!) Point being? Käseland and its owner and employees are really cool and nice, and you should go there and try and buy delicious cheeses.

Yes it's pricey but worth it for tourists like me. Definitely check it out if you're in the area. The staff is friendly and will happily answer any questions and point out their suggestions.

The chocolate is still made by the same family that has owned the shop for generations. This chocolate shop has drawers of chocolates to sift through. This used to be a button shop for the royalty. The drawers were full of buttons that the royalty could pick from to be on their clothes. Now the drawers are filled with buttons of delicious chocolates. The staff was extremely helpful and very pleasant. Besides, who could be sour in a chocolate shop. It was some of the best chocolate we have ever had. We are keeping the hot chocolate mix for our trip to Tahoe later this year. It will be a way we can relive our amazing trip. I wanted to say thank you to the staff for being so friendly and helpful in selecting our chocolate. I gave it one Euro sign, but you could easily get carried away in here. We spent over $40 of chocolate because we knew we weren't going to be back anytime soon.
