I know I'm reviewing a place in Halifax here but I just have to do it. I go to Halifax once a week…read moreand have often walked through the arcade to get a bus to the Hospital. I called into this place once as they had signs for breakfast and the smell of freshly ground coffee was ever so inviting. The place looks a bit like a chain from the outside and I was expecting high prices for pretty standard food. How wrong I was, I have to say they have one of the best breakfast I've had in a while. If you're looking for a greasy spoon then this isn't the place for you. There menu consists of Salmon and hollandaise on a warm bagel, eggs benedict and for the larger appetitive a full English. The coffee is lush here and you get a reasonable sized cup for your money. I had been itching to go here for a late lunch as the menu looked really intriguing so I took my mum for her birthday recently. They have recently built an outside al fresco area which is really clean and modern and gives you the feeling that your in Europe somewhere rather than in the little town of Halifax. The menu is vast from sandwiches and lighter options to tapas, pasta and a la carte meat dishes. We shared a starter which was a plate of beautiful cold meats with massive juicy olives, rocket, balsamic and manchego cheese. It was presented beautifully with gorgeous pieces of bread - I was basically in heaven. It was followed by mum's Veal and my lamb shank which were beautifully cooked and succulent. The lamb came with a delectable red wine jus and bubble and squeak mash. The portion sizes were perfect and the meal was washed down with a pretty decent Pinot (which was free if you purchased a starter and a main each) the other thing that pleased me about the free wine is that is wasn't that cheap 10% stuff it was actually a really palatable wine. Service here is super quick and you are not left waiting longer than needed. The only pick I'd have is that some of the staff look pretty miserable and we were not asked mid way through if everything was ok but that's me being really picky. So two starters, two mains and a bottle of wine for £50 not bad considering what you got for it. You really do feel like your in a higher end eatery.

Can you believe I've never been to Salvo's until yesterday? No, neither can I. I'm not sure what's…read morehappened -I planned to plenty of times, but something always came up. Well, yesterday, whilst it rained and thundered, my friend and I chose to venture out on a hunt for something to eat. In the end we picked Salvo's, and I'm really pleased we did. The restaurant itself is extremely pleasant; the space is open, inviting, clean and has some wonderful decoration-including huge prints of the original Salvo himself, along with the chaps who set up the restaurant with him back in the day. The menus have lovely insights into the business, and it's always lovely to see where a place of such high regard comes from, and it's lovely to look at whilst perusing what to eat. The staff were all absolutely fantastic, all fully friendly, and ready to help. Each person that served us made sure everything was perfect, which all goes toward a better experience. To be fair, I should have taken the advice of our waiter, since I insisted on having chips to go with my pot roast beef (yep, being really British there) and he was sure I wouldn't need them. I didn't! I opted for the Pot Roast Beef, which was a huge slow roasted steak, with delicious vegetables -onion, carrots, courgettes, and more. There were also three huge roast potatoes, an amazing gravy, and some incredible sugared bits of fruit -like glacier cherries, or something, which worked incredibly with the dish. The only thing I didn't enjoy so much were the potatoes, since they weren't very crispy, and I'm not a fan of dry food -I should have asked for some extra gravy, to help soak up the spuds. Even so, this is a minor thing. The side dish of veg and chips were also delicious, and my friend's lasagna was a thing to be jealous of, even with a dish of pot roast in front of me! All in all, our bill came to about £40, which was incredibly reasonable considering the quality of what we consumed. I can't wait to go back and try some of the pasta, which is unusual for me, as usually it's the last thing I would want to try. As well as that they've a really fantastic range of Italian beers, so those will be worth going back for as well. Lovely staff, quality food which you can see being made freshly from their open kitchen, and a delicious menu. Those wanting to save cash can always opt for £15 meal deal on a Sunday - two courses! Check them out!

I firmly believe that Salvo's is the finest Italian restaurant in Leeds. I think I need to break…read morethis down into bullet points otherwise I'll gush. Location: excellent, just removed from the rowdy part of Headingley but near enough to allow you to hit the bars afterwards. Service: Polite, fast and informed. Atmosphere: Relaxed, casual yet lively. Good for date or for group meals. Food: Simple yet somehow the nicest Italian food I've ever had. Everything you would expect, pastas, seafood, chicken. And of course pizzas. Real Neapolitan style pizzas with thin bases, fresh tomatoes and mozzarella, gorgeous toppings and drizzles of oil and seasoning. Drink: Extensive wine menu. The owners love their wine so much they have opened a wine bar upstairs in a tribute to their mother. Sadly, I haven't experienced this yet. Italian factor: Very noticeable. The owners are two Italian-English brothers who execute homage to their heritage perfectly. I know I ended up gushing, but basically, what I'm trying to say is GO. NOW.
