Kildonan House has a cozy, home-like environment where the residents are their first priority. Their 1 and 2 bedroom suites are wheelchair and walker accessible. The majority of suites feature a walk-in shower stall, while the remaining suites provide a bathtub option. Each suite features individually controlled heat and air conditioning, ample storage space, kitchens equipped with a full stove and fridge, as well as a balcony. Brunch and a delicious three course dinner served daily in our central dining room by our friendly and attentive staff. All meals are prepared from scratch, on site by professionally trained kitchen staff. The meals are low sodium, including diabetic options, other allergies and restrictions are also attended to. Weekly light housekeeping is provided, as well as daily garbage collection. The grounds, building, and suites are maintained on an ongoing basis by their maintenance staff. Snow removal and de-icing of walkways and parking lot are also a priority. Activities, presentations, and entertainment are planned on a monthly basis. Some examples include weekly exercise class, tai chi, bingo, theme dinners, and weekly excursions to and from nearby shopping centres. They provide a private guest suite for out of town guests, as well a private dining room for gatherings of family and friends. Laundry facilities are located on each floor, at no extra charge, and all of the residences feature a full service hair salon.

The facility is stuck in the 1990's regarding administration and technology. Do not get placed on…read morethe second floor, that is mainly for people with dementia, but CP will say otherwise. The doctor assigned to that floor, does not make regular visits to residents and picks and chooses who is seen, even after you ask to see the doctor. The place is run too much like an institution and not a "home" as their literature states. Their favourite line is that's the best they can do, and really it is not the best, they just don't want to evolve. Since COVID, the recreation has not returned to the level it was before, and that is from the staff that works there. Just an all around terrible experience and would not go there at all.

The pros are: lovely residents, fun activities and well decorated common areas. The cons are: mediocre food, limited and shared public washer and dryer access, lower quality finishes in units, cupboard height not senior friendly (too high), heat adjustment location not senior friendly (by the floor), refrigerator not senior friendly (low), presence of mice, lack of fresh fruit access for residents, cold dining room in the winter.
