Everything from the design phase turned…read moreout beautifully, and we were able to pivot and change a few things along the way as we changed our mind or realized we wanted something new or different than originally planned (within reason and budget, of course). Phase two added Carolyn and Ezra to our team to manage the project and keep us updated. Both are extremely kind, professional, and great communicators with strong followthrough. Getting weekly updates on home progress and next steps was fun. The team accommodated our questions and walk throughs along the way to allow us to be a part of the process and make sure we were satisfied with every milestone (framing, drywall, etc.). There were very few problems or delays(weather) during the build process, and the team handled every challenge well, prioritizing our satisfaction. For other first time custom home builders, we'll say the last month or two was the only stressful part of the process because that's when everything is installed and you discover potential issues and/or errors in selections, but Elk Ridge made sure to resolve everything. We're now in the home and in that last phase of inevitable final fixes and touch ups. Thankfully, the list is short and the items are simple to address. Ultimately, Phil, Jason, and team not only delivered a dream home that exceeded all expectations, but they thought of every detail and creature comfort that we didn't even consider. We just completed Phase 1 of designing our custom home, which included designing the house, getting all of the plans through engineering, picking out our finishes, and finalizing the budget. Designing every detail about our dream home with Phil was so much fun. He has an incredible eye for design, beauty, and functionality. He listens to you and remembers your priorities, your wish list, and your style and creates an incredible and unique design from it. He really has a talent for design and thinks of everything. Phil and Jason have years of experience in all of the home building trades and the overall process, so they have been able to answer every question and smoothly guide us through our first time building a custom home. Josiah has a great eye for interior design and makes the finish selection process easy by working with you to understand your style and taste and then researching and bringing you a down-selected list of choices to save you time. When building a custom home with limitless options, without Josiah, you could spend months just trying to pick your light fixtures. The Elk Ridge team used their vast experience, attention to detail, and general good taste to help refine our build to fit our budget without sacrificing any of our priorities. This review would have been worse back then…read more Although the end product turned out well, the construction was to take 3 months to complete and took almost a year. J the boss will blame us but his inability to efficiently manage the project and make us happy throughout the project failed. This all happened because we are experienced with home repairs, etc. and questioned many things. J did not appreciate this and penalized us with delays and more. FYI - J&J has very few employees and hires subs to actual do the work. A few of the subs we had were excellent and some were very unskilled and sub-par. There was a lot of rework because of shoddy workmanship and repairs causing delays. The overall quality of the remodel was good but only because of our oversight. This project was an expensive nightmare for us and we can't provide a favorable review - AVOID THIS CONTRACTOR! P. S. Dan, the on sight construction lead was phenomenal and without his efforts and the contract we signed, J&J would have been fired early into the project.

We hired them again to paint some other cabinets we had installed for a bar area. If I could change anything, I wish they would have told me they could match the white color of our pantry door or trim before I tried to pick another white (since we weren't physically there at the beginning). I purchased a home that needed a great deal of remodeling. I hired Alder Building for the large…read moreproject which included everything from installing flooring to tile, painting and stain, bathroom remodeling, wrought iron work, lighting and even included some design elements. Ben provided a detailed (very reasonable!) estimate and answered all of my questions to my satisfaction. He did an incredible job! Ben replaced carpet and existing hardwood flooring with bamboo flooring, ensuring every board was properly glued, spaced perfectly and levels and transitions were smooth. He found a wood stain that exactly matched for the stairs to spare me the expense of installing bamboo on the stairs. It looks perfect! Trim, crown moulding and chair rail were replaced or added in many rooms. Ben hand-crafted beautiful wainscotting with complex angles for my living room, dining room and front foyer and hallway. I knew I wanted it, but had not thought through all of the details. Ben stepped me through my options and turned the vision into reality, exceeding even my own expectations! He replaced the railing on the stairs with wrought iron and figured out how to display a wrought iron panel I had purchased on the upstairs landing, adding a striking visual feature to the 2-story foyer. He installed a beautiful tile backsplash in my kitchen as well as a farmhouse sink, including the plumbing, and reconfigured the cabinets below to save me having to purchase new ones. He replaced light fixtures and ceiling fans throughout the home. He even built my kitchen island for me and installed my kitchen appliances. Ben remodeled my master bathroom to include the removal of a traditional tub and shower, replacing them with a free standing soaking tub and new shower unit, new tile and re-working the plumbing. Did I mention that he also painted every wall and ceiling in the 5-bedroom home?!? He had to use scaffolding in areas and did a neat, clean job; precise lines and no drips on my new carpet in the bedrooms. I found Ben's work to be consistently precise and of the highest possible quality. He proved himself to be committed to not only getting the job done, but he took pride in doing it "right". He never cuts corners; his high standards for quality persist. He communicates well and listens. He is a problem solver and is innovative, but primarily he is experienced; he knows what he is doing! He is a master at his craft and he views each project as a personal reflection on himself. I often told him he is an artist. You can TRUST Ben with your home and your project!!
