Late Saturday (3 days ago) my…read moreyoung son and I bought a pine tree and let the employee pick it out and load it for us as I have Ankylosing Spondylitis (causing back issues). When my husband unloaded it at home he commented that the tree trunk was pretty crooked at the base. Given the spot we'd selected for it we determined to exchange it as soon as possible (there were plenty of other choices of the same type of pine tree). The day being late we didn't do it that day. We watered it as the day was quite warm. The next day was Sunday and Coaldale Nurseries is closed. The next day (Monday) didn't allow for us to exchange it either as we both work. That brings us to today, Tuesday, when we determined to set out from Lethbridge to Coaldale to make what we thought would be a quick exchange of trees. Even with our receipt showing the recent date of purchase and our explanation (in a reasonable and calm fashion) of the circumstances we were told a firm no. When we finally got to speak with a manager we found him just as stand-offish and unreasonable. Their sign clearly states "No refunds- in store credit only". We weren't even looking for a refund. Just a simple exchange. Or, like their sign said, we thought we could get a store credit and use it towards another one with a straight tree trunk. Real disappointing especially since we go out of our way to support small businesses. Will not be shopping here again unfortunately.

It was counter service and we all got various sandwiches which were huge. We enjoyed the food and the experience and walked around after to the shop and nursery. A fun time was had by all and we were left with a satisfying feeling that it was a great day out. Worth the mini jaunt.

I appreciate that they now offer reservations to eat outdoors on their spacious porch, currently a safer alternative to eating indoors. The views of surrounding farm, country gardens and park area are especially welcome after isolation. Their roasted red pepper soup is still the star dish they became known for and the homemade bread used for sandwiches is good. The welcome variety of homemade pies are very good including the pecan pie I I and my friend had. The attached produce store has expanded to include their homemade bread, pickles and roasted chipotles. As always a visit to the large greenhouse was a must to view the great variety of flowers, baskets and garden statues.
