He sent us some initial drawings and estimates and we ended up deciding on one awning for our back porch. Update 8/12/2021; After reading a couple of the 1-star reviews I wanted to post an update. 3 years in and our gazebo is still in one piece! Even after the 60mph winds we had, not a single tear or rip in the fabric. Winds SO POWERFUL that they literally stretched the metal coupling on the steel cable tie-down that is anchored in cement! Let me repeat that....winds SO STRONG they tried to lift the gazebo out of the ground to the point that the couplings stretched and yet not a single rip or tear in the fabric. Not a single loose thread in the seams. Not a single grommet pulled loose. I was amazed. When you are dealing with a company that makes a PREMIUM product, you expect premium results. And yes, you will pay a premium price. Duh... If you start the conversation by throwing out some low-ball number you got from a contractor who DOES NOT specialize in awnings, then yeah, you've already started on the wrong foot. If you mention a Yugo price to the Mercedes salesman then yeah, he's gonna roll his eyes and laugh at you. As far as price goes, I was completely in agreement with the price we got for the gazebo. Greg's quote was actually lower than we estimated or were willing to pay. And now, 3 years later, I feel we got our monies worth and more. Go ahead, buy the cheap awning from that other guy and when it's shredded 3 years from now go see Greg with your hat in your hand. Since that first purchase, we've also had a matching firepit cover made by Greg and his crew of experts at JS Canvas (again, a custom made piece) and today we are calling him to quote us for an awning for the front of our home. Trina and I have been remodeling this home since we moved in 5 years ago and navigating contractors is a nightmare to say the least. Custom awning for our Landpark bungalow. We'd recently had the house painted and hoped to match the awning colors as close as possible. There were so many swatches to choose from the match was exact. John and Jesse were exactly on-time with the pre-fabricated awning and the installation took about an hour. Perfectly level with no gaps of any kind. This corner of the house gets reflected sun in the morning from our neighbors white house and direct sunlight from around 1pm until sunset (Summer and Fall) the rest of the time. I would absolutely never work with this company. I called in to request information about three awnings for each of the French doors on the rear of my home. "Greg" sounded very put out that Granite Bay was so far and asked to send a picture. That's fine, I'd do that. When I mentioned a price point Id seen online for another custom maker he became very aggravated and said they couldn't possibly match and hung up on me. I would have considered supporting local business at a premium but part of supporting local business is receiving exemplary customer service. I will not pay a premium to be treated poorly. These guys are the BEST! I contacted them about repairing a zipper on my tent. They quoted me an estimate, but added that it might be possible to repair the existing zipper. Which they DID. At no charge! While there I was able to see some of their showroom. Their primary business is constructing awnings for homes and businesses. I had a zipper problem on my pop top VW Vanagon. We broke it while camping last week end. I priced out replacement canvas at over $ 500 plus installation which includes removing the top. Big and costly. So based upon the word of the below reviewer I took it to JS today. The owner came out and repaired the zipper to a state where it again functions. This took over 30 minutes of his time. I offered to pay him but he refused. Took my $70 tent in to have the zipper replaced. Was met by Raymond Martinez. He took a look at the zipper and said wait a minute. He went into his shop and came back with a pair of pliers. He did his magic on the zipper and it was fix in less than 30 seconds. This is what customer service is all about. I will be letting my friends know about this business. read more
