We love coming to the drive in. It is such a great experience. Great prices, good concession food, and a feel-good community experience. We have been back several times since our first visit in February of this year. We've seen popular and new movies such as Goat, Project Hail Mary, and the Super Mario Galaxy Movie. We've visited Joy Lan a couple times before this visit and our experiences as a collective have been average. You can arrive a half hour before the show starts to pay and get your spot to watch the movie. Tonight we watch Shang Chi and the Ten Rings and our experience specific to tonight... Not the best. In the beginning of the movie there are subtitles which you can't read because on this screen only the top line ever showed. So as long as there's only one line sentences you're good! In addition there aren't any loud speakers or speakers to place on your vehicle like many other drive ins have, so we had a really hard time hearing. I don't know if this movie was shot in dark lighting or if they needed to adjust lighting on the screen, but there seemed to be a glare or it was often hard to see some scenes. There was an idiot with his car lights on which may have posed a problem as well but no one said anything to them. No one walked around to check for things like that like many other theaters do as well. The website indicates if you have difficulty getting your lights to turn off they have covers for your car to use to dim your lights. There's no info about additional speakers though it does say if you have issues you can let them know. Also kind of bummed with the choice of preshow music. We really enjoy attending the theaters that okay the old fashioned tunes and ads! You only get half an hour before hand anyway which also could be extended some. Show up as early as you can within that time frame to get the best pick of parking spots. Also bring big spray or citronella candle or something. Bugs galore! We may try this theater again in the future but will need to probably bring a radio to provide additional speakers. read more

Pretty good for the nostalgia but not the best in terms of experience. The movies are cropped so much that it can cause you to miss key points in the story (basically in 4:3 for all movies) and the audio has a constant buzzing noise (not sure if that's inevitable for new movies though). Drive-inn's...so much fun. This place is cool. AFter all how many drive-inn's really are around. They have one screen with two movies one after the other. You can not beat the price either - $4 for adults. $1 for kids, and they are open Wed- Thurs. They have signs that say no dogs, but I think that is when it is a flea market. My pup did go with us and had a good time. I will come here again. I did not get any food bc I brought my own goodies and cooler. That's definitely the fun part. read more

Nice to see a drive in in our area. The screen could use a refresh and the reception on the radio was sketchy but being the only drive in in the area who could complain. The price was right and minus the occasional reefer smell it was a good experience. read more

Nostalgic. Convenient. Romantic. Comfortable. Pick a mood, pick an adjective. We were able to see a double header, FROZEN and THOR, with 3 adults and 2 kids for $16. That's just ridiculous. And the snacks were cheaper than at a real theater too. (Which encouraged us to buy more and totally pig-out.) The first several rows still have old fashioned speakerboxes that you can put on your open window for the sound. But they also tell you which radio station to tune in to so you can hear it through your own stereo. Be different, have fun, save money, have an experience. read more

If you like drive-ins then you will enjoy this one. It is one of the few that are left in the Tampa Bay area and is the only one with just a single screen. Ok, I have to say I like it because it hasn't really changed much since it opened. Sure, you can listen to the movie on your car radio but they still have the old window box speakers for those who like it the way it was. The snack bar has the typical drive-in fare that is not bad but is not outstanding either. If you do not care for the big and pricey theaters, the Joy-Lan is a nice place to watch a movie. As for the Swap-Shop, I'll pass as most of the regulars are "dealers" selling items that they bought to resell on any given Saturday. I prefer yard sales, but that is just me. read more

16 bucks for 3 adults and 2 kids to see 2 movies! That alone is worth a few stars. The concession was just a reasonable. Even more so since you can bring your own food and drink with you. The video was as good as any normal movie theatre. The audio depends on your car's sound system, they pipe it out over the radio. If you want to save your battery, they do have speaker boxes, but the sound isn't awesome. read more

We really enjoyed this drive in! I popped open the back of the snack, blanket and pillow filled mini-van set up the 2 kids back there and placed a couple chairs just outside for my husband and I. We had a blast! The picture was good and I would recommend getting a spot between those old car speakers they have in the first few rows :) it wasn't to crowded and the night we went. The only reason I did not award 5 stars is because the bathrooms were pretty disgusting. However, I expected that for some reason. Otherwise, everything else was great! read more

Well, it IS a drive in... I could have given another star if the popcorn butter didn't taste rancid. I had to return it. Drinks are super expensive, just like the regular theater, but they give you 50 cents off if you want a refill. The screen was decent and the sound, at least when played through the car radio, was good. The sound boxes left something to be desired. read more

Love this place! It is a great value because you are getting 2 movies that are still in the more expensive theaters. In this day & age with all the technology going into movies & theaters it is so nice to take a moment & step back in time. A trip to the drive in is a reminder of some great memories in my childhood & now I get to create those memories with my children. The concession is reasonable, but not that great. Pack a cooler with your favorite goodies & enjoy. We always meet such friendly people there & the kids have a chance to play in an open field prior to the start of the movies. read more

Good times exactly what I expected- a run down event that's not intended to be fancy, but cheap fun for the evening. Use the old school speaker box or tune in on your radio. Plenty of people sitting in lawn chairs, many in their car with the AC. Bring bug spray. Decent selection of food, cheaper than a movie theater, but still expensive. It was really cool, I went to see the Mockingjay part two on opening night and there were about 15 people there. Not crowded at all, only five dollars per person and that food at the concession was reasonably priced. Not like it any other movie theater! Went here for the flea market on Saturday. Was only 10 vendors set up. Took like 5 minutes to view what they had. Not worth my time to go here again for the flea market. read more
