Worst family pictures ever! My family was in New Orleans visiting from Texas. I wanted to get…read moreprofessional pictures taken in my husband's hometown to display in our home in Texas. The pictures turned out awful! I am thin and I do not have a double chin. In the pictures Roddy took, I do. My daughter isn't looking at the camera in most of the pics. You cannot even tell I have make-up on because the lighting is so bad. My hair is a mess in the pictures as well. In one picture my daughter is straddling my husband in a dress. My family members have also commented on the quality of the pictures and I have no desire to have any of them printed. I wasted $400 on pictures I'll never use. Walmart's picture studio does a better job than Roddy did.

I had never hired a photographer for an event before, but my partner and I wanted to document our engagement--both for the memories and to share with family and friends. We planned to get engaged on Halloween, and as non-New Orleans natives, we had no idea where to start or who to trust. My partner found Nola Darlings through a highly complimentary Reddit thread, and we were immediately drawn to their work with LGBTQ+ clients and the stunning photos on Instagram. We reached out, and from the very first interaction, Ash was fantastic. Her communication was clear, positive, and thoughtful, and the contract process was seamless. From there, Ash went above and beyond. I took over communication to plan the proposal. My partner wanted to know when it was happening but still be surprised by how. I had an idea but no clue where to find the right person to help me pull it off. I shared it with Ash, and she not only offered thoughtful recommendations but actually helped me find the perfect person to assist with the setup and surprise my (now) fiancée. Ash also worked with me to plan out a route and suggested locations that matched the vibe we wanted. The communication--both with Ash and the person she recommended--was excellent. When it came time to execute the surprise, everything went perfectly, and Ash was right there to capture it beautifully. And perhaps most importantly, the photos are phenomenal. Ash made us feel comfortable from the start and chose locations that truly reflected the atmosphere we were hoping for. I'm a bit camera shy and rarely know what to do with my face or hands, but you'd never know it from the pictures. Ash offered just the right amount of direction and created flattering, low key bad-ass, shots that we absolutely love. All in all, 1,000 out of 10--highly, wholeheartedly recommend Nola Darlings.

I found Red M Studio through a Reddit recommendation from another couple who loved their photos, and after seeing their work, I immediately understood why. We wanted to support a small business, loved their aesthetic, and knew we needed professionals who could capture something intimate and nontraditional without turning it into a production. Leading up to the day, Marianne & Steve were incredibly organized and thoughtful. We had both a phone call and a Zoom meeting where they walked through every detail to make sure nothing was missed. They even used Google Maps to virtually walk us through the French Quarter and talk through locations and timing. That level of preparation made us feel completely at ease. Our original plan was to elope, but as anyone who tries to elope in New Orleans learns, that rarely stays small. What unfolded was a joyful, intimate gathering we lovingly called our "not a wedding."
