A new restaurant in Bærum is always an exciting event and I had been looking forward to trying…read more'Jeppehuset' since I saw that some enterprising person would finally use the fabulous location in Stabekk's old Culture House. I went with 4 girlfriends on a Thursday. We booked a table which was smart because the restaurant was full when we arrived at 19:00. The interior is cool and trendy and I loved the big windows looking out onto the street. There is free parking (after 17:00) almost next door, but even better if you want to have a glass of wine or two, it's right on the 143 bus line. The service was attentive and nicely paced, not too slow or too rushed. We were one of the last tables to leave and we never felt like they were ready to rush us out the door. But sadly, this is where my positive comments end because while all of the above are important, it's the food that will bring me back and Jeppehuset let me down here. I had the akevittgravede laks (119 nok) as a starter and hjortfilet med rosenkål and tyttebæer (289nok). The hjortfillet was very tough and overcooked and there is really no excuse to serve boiled brussel sprouts in the 21st century. I am sure the tyytebæer sauce was from a jar which was also a great disappointment. I am left with the impression that the owners of Jeppe know they have a great location ("If you build it, they will come"). I just hope they realize they also need great food for me to become a regular customer.

They have a good selection of coffees and pastries to choose from. But by far my favorite are the orange scone and brioche. The brioche here is as it should be, made with a lot of egg yolks! The coffee is on point and especially my go to drink Torshammer! Coffee of the day plus a double espresso! Sandwiches are average, but I do not go here for sandwiches. I stood in the line and when it was my turn, I ordered a latte with oat milk. It's my usual and it's also very good at Stockfleths. I've been to a couple around the city. The gentleman behind the counter was very helpful as I perused the pastry collection. Nothing stood out to me at first so I asked if he had a recommendation. He asked if I felt like oatmeal. I said sure. He showed me the toppings options and asked which one I preferred. The caramel berry topping made the oatmeal very sweet and delightful. This excellent customer service made a real impression on me in an otherwise cold city. That is why I felt compelled to write a positive review.

It was busy with lots of Norwegian speakers and what looked like people grabbing breakfast before work. There is plenty of seating both inside and outside, which is always a plus. I didn't try the coffee since I had already had some, but there was a good selection of pastries along with larger dishes on the menu. Since I was new to Oslo, I wanted to try a local pastry, so I went with the raisin roll (around $5). The roll was pretty good--nicely baked and, while not warm, it still tasted fresh. It had been a while since I'd had a raisin let along a raisin pastry, and I was pleasantly surprised. The raisins added just enough sweetness and flavor without taking over. Overall, a solid spot for a quick bite, especially if you're exploring the MUNCH Museum or Opera House. The local crowd, outdoor seating, and convenient location make it a nice Oslo stop.

I ordered a Chai Tea Latte,` the chai was a bit spicy and lacking the sweetness that one expects when ordering this drink. It was also lacking a bit of love in the foam department. Overall, Chai Tea Latte was a swing and a miss in my book. The aftertaste the spices left burning my mouth and missing the sweetness was pretty distasteful. Onto the food, I ordered slice of bread served with hummus, lettuce and cucumbers which was very nicely put together. The hummus was amazing and left me longing for another bite, long after it was gone. I also ordered a slice of bread with avocado spread which was topped with lettuce and cherry tomatoes. This was spread was lack luster but I must say the bread, lettuce and tomato were quite fresh.
