When I go to a therapist, I am looking for help, otherwise I would just be wasting my time and money. If I knew how to help myself, I would not be going to a therapist. I expect a therapist to know how to and want to help people, otherwise, they have no business doing therapy.
Three long years into seeking help with Jonna and everything was fine. My issues were minor and basically I was just talking and she was just listening without offering any real advice but I was okay with it because it helped me to talk about issues and get them out in the open. Jonna was the second therapist I had seen and I really had no experience in just what a therapist was supposed to do. Jonna never gave me any pamphlets, brochures, or even talked about what I should expect from therapy. I had originally started going to her when my dog died and maybe she did help me with that (or maybe it was just me going through the grieving process). She recruited me away from where she was originally working to go with her when she started her own practice.
I have had trust issues all my life due to my past. It is really hard for me to open up and trust somebody for fear of being used and stabbed in the back. It took all of those three years to finally feel that Jonna truly cared and wanted to help me. Slowly the walls started coming down. I found someone who had my back and was genuinely interested in helping me deal with my issues.
During the Holidays, something in me was triggered. I think I know what it was but I won't mention it here. I slid downwards into my rock bottom place and became very depressed. I talked to Jonna about it because, after all, that is what you are supposed to do with a therapist. Other than telling me how important I was to my family, she pretty much didn't do anything else but listen to me talk. During this time, my depression medication was changed, which I found out later that I was on the wrong medication, and my depression worsened. I told Jonna that my doctor had changed my medication and she never pursued it further. I was struggling to fight my depression and, right or wrong, Jonna became my rope to hang on to. Just knowing I had her to talk to and I didn't have to worry about being judged meant so much to me.
Jonna seemed cold during my last visit with her. I couldn't quite put my finger on it. At the end of the session, we hugged as we always did, and our last words to each other were "see you next week"
I received a text from her two days before my next appointment saying she had to cancel both mine and my 25 year old daughters appointments. No reason why and no mention of rescheduling. She wouldn't respond to my text asking what was wrong. Two days later I received a letter from her in the mail saying she was dropping me for being too depressed. And since she was dropping me, she also dropped my daughter. She sent a copy of that letter to my physician, whom I never gave her permission to share information with, and my physician that I had for over 15 years dropped me. She included in the letter two places I could go to to seek help, which later she sabotaged. When I tried to go to them, they said they would take me but after they received copies of my records from her, they wouldn't see me. She refused to talk to me about what was going on and why she did this to me and my daughter. Lucky for her, I was able to hang on through all of this and didn't try to harm myself. I now feel that I am worse off than I was three years ago. If you go to a therapist, you are seeking help, and there you should feel safe to open up and trust that person, perhaps more than you have ever trusted anyone in your life. If your therapist basically says you're not worth her time and trouble, how do you think that makes a person feel?
Jonna can show a caring and thoughtful side when she needs to but from my experience, she is a cold person inside and when things get too tough for her, especially when someone has some real problems, she bails out rather than deal with helping them.
Just my opinion, just my experience. Take it or leave it. My review has every right to be up here just as the five star reviews do. Mine should be a one star but apparently negatives aren't allowed on her page. read more
