I heard it's local catch from southern Marmara. Istanbul is not a high turn place for such delights, but they manage to deliver very high quality sashimi. My visits here have put expressions of delight in every one my guests' faces. Good place to convert a non-sushi person into one who dreams of sushi. I'm not a big roll fan, but this place makes you want more. They have mastered the art of the sushi rice. The plates are not only delicious, but also works of art. Try the otoro sashimi, seared scallops, shrimp gyoza, dragon roll,... Hell, just try everything. Don't let the location fool you!

Then we all ended up coming here together on my last day -- after trying it out with my lady. The filipino sushi chef was everything here. He was so kind, and helpful to my lady who he accommodated with vegan dishes. The toro here is better than many American sushi places I've been to! It is high quality. For the price -- we wanted to buy everything. Lol. Most of all, this place is authentic Japanese food! It is is co-Owned by Japanese as well as Turkish. The chefs in the kitchen are Japanese. No wonder why my Chicken Katsudon was on point. Brought back memories of Japan for me. I truly miss this place already. It's by far the bear in Istanbul as far as authenticity. Can't wait to come back.

I also tried their sweet and sour chicken, the portion felt a bit small compared with the price, but it was really crunchy and the sauce and seasoning was perfect. I highly recommend Ioki!

The omakase was a different story. While the concepts of the dishes sounded good on paper the execution was not very good in most dishes. I am not going to spend the time going through each dish but I would not recommend this restaurant's omakase to anyone. We didn't try the sushi but everyone else in the restaurant seemed to order the sushi so maybe we did something wrong. I will say the service was not great either. At one point we had a 30 minute break in our meal as they prepared the next course.at minute 20 of the break the operations manager came over to tell us the dish had not even been fired yet. He did not offer an explanation( it was after the prawns and we were waiting on the lamb). So the thirty minute break between two courses disturbed our appetites. Lastly, we had the passion fox cocktail. Rarely does a cocktail serve to lower the score. For how much we paid at this restaurant, disappointment is am understatement.

For main course, I chose the lamb three ways and it was one of the best cooked and tender lamb I've ever had. Hubby had the filet and also loved it. Don't ask me what the dessert was - there was a lot of flavors and textures in this little chocolate heart!
