The store is visually appealing, clean white walls as a backdrop let the clothing provide the décor. The racks flow with a who's who of the fashion world; Vivienne Westwood, Marc Jacobs, Tom Ford, Gucci, Chanel, Balenciaga and many more. Bruce is worth a look for fashionistas wanting to give a garment a new home without maxing the credit card.

While the shop is small service can be a bit hit and miss, some of the girls are lovey and very friendly while others give off a bit of a snooty vibe. When the store is busy its quite hard to get some advice as the sales assistants are usually running around and keeping their eyes on all the customers. Make sure you check out the sale section (while small, sometimes you can find a decent deal), and there are changing rooms too up the back.

It is stocked with gorgeous dresses perfect for a uni ball or any other formal occasion, as well as dressy jackets, blazers and pants. Enter Smith Street. Awash with vintage boutiques, coffee houses and, at the Johnston Street end, fashion's veritable holy grail - outlet shops - Smith Street is a bit of a discount shopping Mecca, and Sadie, with prices ranging from around $20 for a top to $40 for a dress is one of the area's best value boutiques. Doing a fine line in just Avant Garde enough jersey basics in neutral but indispensable colours; pretty floral tea dresses perfect for Melbourne's changeable climes; and soft but smart modern work wear, Sadie is a little Australian label with big ambitions to recreate the season's trends for a fraction of its sartorial contemporaries prices. I tend to visit Sadie when I'm in the market for nicely cut tees and vests with just enough detail to make them interesting, while Sadie's twisted jersey dresses are chaste enough to wear to work and dressy enough to throw on with a pair of sandals for a drink down Smith Street after dark. In saying this, the prices may be higher (I got the jumper on SALE for $80 - Down from $199) but there's a small chance you'll encounter an awkward moment at a party when someone is wearing the same item as you.
