The Ship Inn - Whitebait

We visited the Ship Inn three times for supper, while staying in Weybourne…read more The pub itself has two rooms: a bar area, and a dining area (in which dogs are not allowed - the pub is otherwise very dog-friendly). There are also tables outside, and a couple of 4-seater "pods", providing extra accommodation for diners. On each occasion, we had mains and drinks, which with service came to a very reasonable £25 or so a head. We thought the food was very good: well done and filled burgers with god chips; a very nice Sunday lunch; and then fish & chips and a sweet potato tagine. Service was friendly and efficient, and very professional (we were impressed by the obvious training of the youthful staff). There's a small car park attached to the pub - essential as there's really not much parking available otherwise in the village. The pub is right next to the "Coast-hopper" coastal bus stop. It's worth booking well ahead at weekends, and during the summer months, as it is a very popular place to eat. Recommended.

This little coastal village pub had no idea what hit it when a rambunctious crew of Americans…read moredescended upon in it for a local wedding. Nevertheless, Terry and the staff at The Ship Inn made the stay extra special. The food is fairly good for a small rural inn and the beer is of course good o'l English Fair. The pub has a dining area and a separate good-sized bar area. As expected, it has its good number of local regulars that give the inn its color and character. You can drink and dine in the dinning room or bar, or watch the sun go down outside on the small front patio. A great quiet stop if you are staying in Sheringham or Holt, or at a local B&B. Having said all this, it is also probably safe to say that you will probably not run into any other Americans in this quaint rural spot. Thanks Terry for accommodating us.

Pie and Mash shop which, - in its leaflets claims it's not trying to be a London Pie and Mash Shop…read more( but hang on...it sells Pie and Liquer, thats what London Pie shops sell aint it?) Anyhow - No matter It's a pleasant enough restaurant, good standard of cleanliness, decor, attentiveness, and reasonable prices. MENU -------- pie & mash £6.50 ( prices as at October 2014 ) (choose liquor sauce or gravy ) minced beef & onion steak & ale chicken & mushroom creamy vegetable special of the week bangers, mash & gravy £6.00 mushy peas £1.00 baked beans £1.00 jellied eels £4.00 extra gravy £1.00 extra liquor sauce £1.00 extra mash £1.00 This place serves an excellent pie and mash with extras as shown above. I didn't book but thats not to say you definitely don't need to. My wife and I wanted to visit this shop/restaurant because we had heard how good the Steak and Ale Pie was ( from more than one person )....So a visit we must and did make! Upon entering the shop/restaurant - we were shown to a table, given a menu, and asked what drinks we would like... a short while later the drinks arrived and we drank as we further perused the menu...short while again later the waitress enquired as to what we would like from the menu... My wife and I had already decided that we would like the much praised Steak and Ale Pie - ''unfortunately we don't have Steak and Ale Pie she told us. Disappointment hung in the air as this was really and truly the ONLY thing on the menu we would have normally chosen to order and to be fair WAS the only reason we were there. OK - NOTE TO STAFF :- When customers come into your restaurant please, please please do NOT seat them at a table, commit them to buying drinks, let them start enjoying said drinks...and then drop the bomb shell that the Steak and Ale Pie is OFF the menu. This might sound a trifle petty, but i refer you back to my statement ''this was really and truly the ONLY thing on the menu we would have normally chosen to order and to be fair was the only reason we were really there''. I / we still stand by that. I'm sure the correct way would have been was to have shown us to a table and informing us ''i'm so sorry, but i'm afraid the Steak and Ale or whatever is off the menu'', because then the customer can choose something else, or choose to leave and eat elsewhere with a view to coming back another day when your much raved about Steak and Ale Pie is actually ON the menu. ...Sigh, Rant over Anyhow, because WE FELT committed to stay we went on to order a Chicken and Mushroom Pie and a Chicken Bacon and Leek Pie. These were both very nice and i am not complaining about these at all, great Creamy Mash with a nice Minty Mushy Peas side order....i don't think, personally the gravy was overly fantastic though and on a par with what i could do at home with a pot of Bisto granules, but hey ho...others might find it positively orgasmic!
