When I was pregnant with my son I stumbled upon Isabella Oliver's website when I was desperately trying to find something to wear to my work Christmas party. I was 7 months pregnant at that time and determined not to look as though I was wearing a tent! Isabella Oliver's clothes are absolutely gorgeous. They are designed to celebrate your bump and flatter everywhere else too. A lot of the necklines are seriously plunging - I guess they're designed to highlight not only your baby bump - so you do have to be feeling a bit brave to wear some of the creations. When I discovered Isabella Oliver, the site sold only a limited variety of tops, dresses, skirts and some trousers. I know the range has expanded to include jeans, jackets and some lovely workwear (minus the very plunging necklines) so you could buy your maternity capsule wardrobe here. I paid £160 for my Christmas party outfit so definitely not in the same price league as Hennes or Mothercare, but the wrap top is literally that - you wrap and wrap and wrap it round then tie it at the waist - so I've been able to continue wearing it post pregnancy without looking like I'm still wearing maternity clothes!

I would be understating things if I said that I was a bit maternally inclined. I have wanted a baby…read moresince I was about 13 (for obvious reasons of parental disappointment I have postponed) and have turned in to one of those awful people that finds it physically impossible not to coo at another persons baby no matter how inappropriate the setting might be. Waking a baby up on a long haul flight to Buenos Aires just so that I could play with it is probably the worst example I can think of. While I'm not proud of this, damn that baby was cute and personally I think everyone had been sleeping too much anyway by that point. Fortunately for me, a few friends have recently become pregnant and this has given me a great excuse to visit baby shops and play with booties and the like. From the outside I had high hopes for Babye but once I stepped in everything changed. What I hadn't realised was that this was a designer baby shop featuring names like Ralph Lauren and Armani. Frankly I find the whole idea of designer baby clothes pointless and a bit disturbing. Why would anyone want to spend £70 on a Dior baby grow just to have the kid throw up on it within twenty seconds of putting it on. Who is the designer gear really for anyway? Surely the baby doesn't care what it's wearing so long as it's warm and soft so is the point that the mother needs to have her kid ready for the cat walk at any time. Don't get me wrong, I think it's quite sweet to spend a bit of money on a one off piece for a baby especially if there is a special event coming up but the day to day extravagance of this place made me feel quite uncomfortable. If you are willing to spend £150 on designer bed sheets your baby will no doubt crap on then Babye is your kind of place. The rest of us will have to thank god that BHS still exists.

The service in both shops is excellent and they have often rang the other store to reserve an item if they do not have it in my childs size. On the last visit they even took a coat of the model high on display and (luckily) it fit perfectly. Although some people think this shop is a little expensive I have found it great value for money. The items I have bought from here I have loved and my little girl has worn them over and over again. Much more than any other shops clothing. They have all washed really well with no shrinkage or colour loss. It always quite sad when she grows out of them. You expect the layout of most designer shops on the Kings Road to be special and this one does not disappoint. instead of the clothes being hung together on hangers like in your average shop, every hanger has a full outfit put together on it. They all look great and it is a clever technique to sell more stock. The only reason I have not given this store 5 stars is because the price of the clotheing is a little too pricey for me. The prices ranged from a pair of socks at £8 to a coat I saw for £69, however, as mentioned before the quality is excellent.
