What an amazing event for children and parents (grandparents) alike. It was the Fire and Ice event and everyone had a great time. Sometimes we take for granted the resources we have at our disposal. The library is one of those things. They offer so much to the community and 99% of the time it costs us nothing but a little enthusiasm and time. This event had to do with explaining magic through science. My granddaughter throughly enjoyed it and I would dare to say that all the other children did as well. The library puts out a monthly calendar of all the events they are hosting. I've enjoyed several myself. One of my favorite was a gardening class. They offer something for everyone. Great place to spend some quality time with your little ones. read more

This is an awesome library in Virginia Beach for many reasons - very comprehensive location is central in VB - but lastly great venues for people to gather ie True Friends Connection meets there about 2x a month to do Christian Bible Study. It's FREE to all! Staff are all very friendly and helpful. True Friends Connection is a group of Christians doing Bible Studies together every other Mondays. Great time in eating together Lunch Awesome time in Praise & Worship and lastly and the best part...in studying the Bible together. Its very clean and quiet; the study rooms and upper-level areas are unmatched for studying and doing homework solo or with buddies. It does absolutely have to be 24 hours for the university students; closing at 7 pm is honestly way to early, and there is not an alternative. I understand that this is a joint library, but I think this is a great opportunity to help most of the patrons (TCC students) with not only more study time but jobs!! Beautiful library with plenty of open space, spread out tables, outlets and over two dozen quiet study rooms you can reserve ahead of time. With a vast selection of fiction, non-fiction, childrens', teens' and media, you can spend hours looking through every shelf. I am particularly a fan of the large collection of monthly magazines and newspapers from almost every outlet you can imagine. An added plus are the security features at the entrance, diligent security guards walking throughout the library at all times and the friendly staff and librarians always willing to point you in the right direction for whatever you may be in search of. read more

I'd love to give it a higher rating, but one security guard, a grisly looking older white male, is kind of rude, and always says me and sometimes the people I'm with are loud, when there are people just as loud if not louder than us. Also, they shortened the time you could check out a room to 4 hours, that's nothing, bring back the longer hours for study rooms!! read more

This place has been one of the brightest parts of such a dull time of COVID restrictions! My sons crave books, and with the online holds pickup available, we have started coming twice a week to grab our new slew of books! The staff is always so welcoming and friendly. Especially "Miss Donna," she's been a gem and we look forward to seeing her every time we visit during her shift. This is such a nice library to come to! When I lived on the side of Virginia Beach I came here often while studying for my RD exam. This library is very quiet, spacious, and has all the resources that I need. I didn't know how to scan documents for free and the staff upstairs were very helpful. read more

I switch back and forth between Kempsville and JUL, but recently, I have really enjoyed going to JUL because I found very quiet cubicles on the second floor on the very back of the library. I love the windows and the views. People are quiet and respectful. I always enjoyed the kids' section as well. My son was less than a year old ( he is 10 now) when it opened. It is very spacious, and since it is affiliated with TCC, the hours are a bit different than the other public libraries. read more

I really enjoy coming to this library. The staff here, especially in the children's department, are so attentive and friendly. The staff in the children's department are very informative and helpful. I attended a story time class yesterday with my 20 month old and the gentleman teaching it was amazing. He really connects with the children and enjoys what he does and it shows. There was easily 10+ children and moms and he was able to attend to us all and keep the children interested and involved. They also gave me so much information and how-tos for upcoming classes. This location is neat and orderly and there is just so much to do besides reading and checking out books. Rooms are available for study and tablets and computers are everywhere for public use. I really look forward to being more involved in the classes they have available. read more

This library is huge and has so many study rooms! Most are equipped with a computer, projector, whiteboard and can be locked if you have to run to the bathroom. You just reserve with your tcc or library account. There are also tons of other places around the library to get work done. Lots of windows for natural light and I love that they open earlier (8am or 9am depending on the day) than most libraries. Staff is friendly and they have a security guard who walks around. Bathrooms are clean and there's tons of parking too! Such a great place in Virginia Beach to have some quiet time and get some work done. read more

I am in love with a librarian. My wife has been one for 25 years at different universities around the country. So if given the opportunity to check out a new one I am all over it. I actually attended the grand opening of the Joint Use Library. The JUL is on TCC campus, it is an academic library. The library operates as both a Virginia Beach Public Library and a Tidewater Community College Library, thus the name "Joint Use". It has everything that a college student could want to to do research, check out materials and do group work. They also have multiple study rooms with flat screen TV's that look marvelous for a student. The parking situation is all surface and in my opinion not adequate at peak times when school is in. The great thing is it's not a far walk to the building. Speaking of the structure is pretty darn massive, sleek with concrete, polished steel and lots of glass. To say it has a modern design is an understatement. The exterior of the library is is real beauty. A modern feel from the outside follows you inside as marble floors grace the entry. A blond wood, is present on the counters and book selves. Exposed steel is every where you look and glass as far as the eye can see. A cafe is on the right at the entrance and the circulation desk is on the left. A little farther in the flooring transistions to a conservative beige carpeting. In the middle you will find an awesome student area to study in large booths that are fully equipped with plugins. This is not the quiet study area. The right wall as you enter is curved and has lots of books on wooden shelves. The lighting is excellent. In the center of the downstairs is the children's and youth library. It's not big, but it packs a punch with a creative design for play, seating and even a sealed off activity room with a large flat screen. The staff has all done themselves with cool displays for the kids. On the day I was last there the room was full of little children watching Monsters Inc. Through the doors and you run into the periodical area that has a magazine for just about any taste. Upstairs is a mega computer research area, quiet study section and a lot more stacks of books. I also saw a large comfortable "quiet study" area. More private rooms that can be reserved are visible, but not in use this afternoon. The entire building was neatly organized, immaculately cleaned and inviting for a patron.This is a wonderful example of how a partnership like this can work and spread the cost burden over two large entities. If you have not yet checked this library out, which I guess that is still a lot of you then no time like the present. read more

This place is gorgeous. A beautiful state of the art piece of architecture, steel and glass. It's amazing walking up to it at night because it's like a well lit glass house and since the walls are primarily glass you can see into most if the rooms. You can see people studying, having meetings, busying themselves with other activities. I spent countless hours in libraries as a child. I was a huge reader, and libraries were my intellectual amusement park. This place could have been my Disney if it were around 2+decades ago. They have these awesome study rooms that look like observation rooms to me. Glass on three sides. With a large LCD screen mounted on the back wall. But no food allowed in the rooms. Not sure I could study for hours without food though. The bathroom is pretty far away, deep in the middle of the library, far from the circulation desk and the cafe. Perhaps this is for safety & convenience reasons. It is near the children's area. There is a second restroom at another location. Everything here is bright, clean, organized, modern and comfortably inviting. read more

Library shut down until January 31st out of "an abundance of caution" resulting from the deadly Omicron strain. Oh wait a second, it's a less harmful strain? Shut it down anyways. Incredible incompetence on the part of decision makers. Keep in mind, this library is over 125,000 sq ft and is never busy. At the same time, city libraries, which offer much smaller enclosed spaces, are operating normally and do not even require masks for fully vaccinated individuals. Why such a disparity in policy? Stop being lazy and provide taxpayers and students with the resources they subsidize! read more

Libraries get five stars from me, always........because I'm a nerd. Therefore, I like books. But, this one also gets a five star review because it is a very nice new addition to the VA Beach Library system. It also happens to be on the TCC campus in VA Beach and is affiliated with the college. My youngest son and I wandered here the other day and checked it out and I came away very impressed. Though it's not quite as big as the main branch central library, it's plenty big with lots of private meeting/study rooms, computers, and a very nice kids section. There is also a coffee shop right off the main entrance for a snack and caffeine if there studying or just getting your books. On the day we went, it wasn't too crowded as it was still fairly new. I imagine it will start picking up once everyone realizes it's open and you can use your VA Beach Library account. See you there. read more

With so much space, it's a great place to find a nook and study without being disturbed. That is, as long as you are wearing a mask. Unfortunately, despite being 125,000 square feet, the library continues to enforce a mask mandate. Interestingly, Virginia Beach public libraries, often much smaller in size, allow patrons who are vaccinated to enter without a mask. Therefore, I have to assume this is a TCC blanket policy. read more

This is by far the best library I've attended anywhere, let alone virginia beach. I love the unique appearance of it and when you go inside it really opens up it's beauty of 2 floors. My favorite part are the choices of study rooms. As a student, you can reserve your own locked room for 4 hours a day (get a buddy with you that's 8 hours of studying) and need to go to the restroom? Just lock the door, your belongings will be safe. Security guard in the front to keep everything running smoothly, never seen any problems however. Parking lot directly next to the building and across the road. Very kid friendly, there's a playground on the first floor that I've never been into, but it's fairly big and kids play in there everytime I've been around. Majority of the time, the staff is polite to the library goers. There's also a coffee shop that sells some pastries and beverages, very nice while studying. I love the look and function of this lib and would highly recommend to anybody trying to study. read more

Such an upgrade from the old library. This one recently opened up last spring. It's very big inside. Open floors, windows all around. Parking is limited, I sometimes park all the back of the g building. I try to come here as much as I can at least once a week to study. -Two floors worth of books (stairs & elevators to get you on the second floor) -Two floors worth of computers (must have TCC ID or library card to use and print) -Several bathrooms up and down stairs, family and handicapped bathrooms as well -Kids section with computers and mini play area -basic Starbucks near the entrance. By basic I mean they have simpler items on the menu compared to a regular Starbucks -Study rooms everywhere. Reserve it by going on TCC's library website. It'll ask for your name, number, and email sending you a notification to your cell/email. You'll show that to the people at the front desk and they'll swipe your student ID. Each room is equipped with one tv and keyboard. read more

Beautiful building. I'm so grateful for this Joint Library. I got my library card at the beginning of the summer so I can get my summer read on without spending so much money and so I can bring my 10 year old brother here to check out books and read. I really love the section they have dedicated to children. The employees and staff here are incredibly kind and helpful as well. Getting my library card was a breeze and actually enjoyable because of the person helping me out. She was so friendly ! Since this is a joint library, the second floor contains books Tidewater Community College owns that one can check out as a library cardholder even if you aren't a community college student. I've already checked out some books for research. I still gotta figure out the wifi stuff in the future because I plan on utilizing this library for studying since it's very close to where I live. This place is huge so if you plan on coming here to check out a good read, it's good to give yourself some time. Beautiful spacious building, great staff, and tons of reading material. Joint use library is the Taj Mahal of library's. Not only is it clean, beautiful and impeccably kept but they have the most wonderful staff. Today I swung by to pick up children's books for my two-year-old son. Did you know that they have groupings of books outside of the library on suggested topics for all age groups? There were picture books of dinosaurs, monsters, boats and more! These books are suggestions for easy pickup. The librarians also gave me a fire safety coloring package for my toddler and a water awareness calendar for my older son. A wonderful and friendly lady named Becky shared a suggestion for online services through hoopla and Libby. These apps are for audiobooks and electronic books which are free with your library card. This library goes above and beyond- thank you! read more

The Joint Use Library is a HUGE library that is very nice and quiet with wonderful service. Whether you are a member of the school or Virginia Beach public library, they make sure that you are taken care of either way. There was so much more that we did not have time for...maybe a guided tour would help.when i study , i study at the quiet main reading room. I've been in VB for a year and a half now, and am just discovering this library. I've visited a few others, but this one was as close to a quaint library experience as I've gotten. It was clean and quiet for an early Saturday morning. I think what I enjoy most is there's a Starbucks onsite. Given its a joint library with TCC, it definitely takes me back to my college days and makes it a little more pleasant to study. I'll definitely be frequenting this library in the future and will plan my Saturday study days here. I would say it is an amazing place and very quiet. I personally sit on the lower levels in the big booths because I feel there is more privacy and also the outlets are easier to access. Overall I love this place and keep coming back because it is so quiet and calm. read more

They have lots of study rooms that you can reserve in advance. There are also many computers on the first and second floor as well. This is an awesome library!! I love the Starbucks when you walk in. Today I got a pumpkin spice latte. If I reviewed the Starbucks it would be 4 stars cause they didn't have frappiciunos today. :( She said she was waiting for the truck. However the library itself is OUTSTANDING. I'm a student at TCC VB Campus and if it weren't for my professor holding a class here with a librarian, I would have never given this a second glance. I'm so thankful he did and wish I had found this sooner. First, the study areas abound as you can see from other posts. The study rooms are reserved online for four hour increments max (I believe) and I believe all have large flat screen TV's, keyboards, chairs, glass to write on with supplied dry erase markers and eraser, etc. All you can need to have a little meeting or study. I had heard the children's area was great, but wasn't seeing it so presumed it wasn't what I expected. I was wrong! I signed my 2 year old up for a class and not only is the class AMAZING, the children's area is awesome. It's a little put back from the rest of the library, so it's not as concerning if the littles get a little loud. We didn't get to explore it, but I'm excited to after next class. Speaking of the classes, the storytime class for 2's was amazing. The leader is fantastic. They are free and sign up starts two weeks before the class begins and fills up that same day. Now I understand why. They make it very personal, intimate, and educational. I'm no longer an avid book reader due to being a full time single parent and full time student, but this library makes me re-consider leaving the area...because it's just THAT great. It's neat, clean, fresh, new, and full of more than you can imagine. I have visited four libraries in the area total and this is hands down the best. I had heard the Oceanfront was a haven for homeless and that is the truth. I didn't feel comfortable sitting in my car alone and hurried into class and on out. I understand it's public and everyone needs a place, but it's a bit off putting. I'm glad we have the little known about JUL around. read more
