When we were ready to move forward, she kept everything on track and on schedule. The installation team was excellent--efficient, respectful, and careful to protect our existing lawn during the process. We really appreciated the attention to detail. Johnson's has an impressive selection of native plants, and their deep knowledge of what works best for our yard was invaluable. They provided a detailed presentation with plant info and care instructions, which will be a huge help as we care for the new additions. This nursery has probably the largest variety and size of landscaping options in the area. They also make their inventory readily available via the internet, which is great for planning purposes. Some of their prices were on par with others in the area, and some were much higher. We ordered quite a few trees from them this year (and even more from another local nursery). We had money down on trees that were due to arrive within 1-2 months from deposit. As it got closer, they did not notify us the date had changed, so by the time we were notified, others go to come and make a pick before us (instead of picking two from about a dozen, we picked from four). In the end we were happy with our purchases, but they could work out some of the logistics and followthrough with regular customers (we sensed the contractors got a little more attention). Also, I will add that years ago we paid for someone from Johnsons to come and give us ideas for our yard. I think we paid about $150 to get the lamest "sketch", but Johnsons was good about refunding the amount as a credit towards future purchases. It just was a bummer that we wasted time waiting for the person to come out and then a month for them to give us a photo of our yard with some pictures of 2 plants awkwardly pasted over it. If the person had take us seriously, they would have gotten way more business from us. Still, we recommend this place for its large inventory and quality of products. read more

The selection is great, the quality of the plants is wonderful, and the staff is stellar when it comes to customer service and sharing their knowledge. Buy at your own Risk! We purchased 12 plants last spring from Johnson's. They were planted and well watered. They looked wonderful last fall. This spring they didn't come back. So, if you want to take a risk, Johnson's might be for you...otherwise, find a business that stands behind their products. This was a $645.75 loss for us. Lesson learned! read more

One of the better options for native plants in the region. They offer more than just plugs or pints and I found that their plants have had a higher survival rate than a lot of the other nurseries that ship things to you. Despite this years drought in the spring and summer heat nearly all the plants are still going strong. Certainly one of my go to places as a gardener for myself and for projects I do for others. read more

Bought some ferns a bit early at the beginning of Spring. They were dormant and was told if they don't wake up then they'd be more than happy to be replaced. There's still no signs of life and was advised by the manager to "put medium on it". A bit disingenuous. Great selection but don't buy until things are in full growing mode. read more

We have chosen Johnson's Nursery in Menomonee Falls as our "go to" nursery for several years. Just walking through their plants in May inspires us to add new varieties and colors to our berm and flower beds. The staff is always helpful to us as we select our items---explaining what makes each plant special/how to care for them. The plants offered for sale at Johnson's are healthy and thrive after being planted. We purchase both "annuals" that will bloom throughout one summer and "perennials" that bloom at different times during the growing season. The perennials that we purchase bloom year after year, grow in size, and get more beautiful! Some of my favorite plants have been the Rosanne Geraniums, Caesar's Brother Iris, and a Little Devil Ninebark bush. The most recent additions to our home have been the beautiful trees that add height and color to our backyard & berm. These were planted in the last 3 years: Wisconsin Red Musclewood, Tricolor European Beech, and an Autumn Brilliance Serviceberry. The coloring of the buds and leaves are beautiful throughout spring, summer, and fall. We do recommend Johnson's Nursery. read more

Best native "shrubber" in Wisconsin. Order in fall for spring pickup to get a the best selection. Professional landscapers and Madison Streets seem to buy up a lot of inventory. Johnson's also has a modest selection of larger-pot, prairie plants and grasses. I look forward to their someday opening a natives greenhouse in Madison! Hint, hint. read more

This is a very large nursery with good selection of plants, shrubs, and trees in Menomonee Falls a short distance from Silver Springs Road. This is not your standard retail garden store. They are set up for contractors, there primary customers. It was a drizzly, cold day so our sales person offered us a ride on the golf cart to take a look at the shrubs we were interested in purchasing. They had a wide variety to choose from and all looked healthy and cared for. We ended up buying 3 spirea and 2 forsythia and had them delivered and planted. The shrubs were reasonably priced, but the planting will cost $40 per bush! That seems pretty steep, so I recommend planting them yourself if you have the time and equipment. I would have liked to wander around and see all the types of plants in the greenhouses, but the weather was not conducive to that. I will definitely return some day when the weather is nicer. read more

Never again. I used to recommend them. Delivery was a total mess. An expensive tree was delivered three blocks away to the wrong house. A kind neighbor called them. No one ever called me. Not before the delivery, as they said they would, nor when the mistake was known. The neighbor knocked on our door, which is the only way we knew. Absolutely the best nursery in Wisconsin. Not only do they provide a wide selection of native plants, which are incredibly difficult to find, but the plants are super healthy. It's obvious that they care very much about providing high-quality plants. The staff is very helpful and knowledgeable. I have been trying to get this nursery to examine a tree they planted at my home. It appeared to have multiple dead branches at the 1 year mark. I have called 5 times over 45 days and they ignore all requests to honor the 1 year warranty for the tree. They don't return phone calls and promises to come out to examine the tree are never kept. I would not recommend them. read more

Buyer beware - I was looking for help at my residential home. I was told that for $75 they would come out and help build a plan for landscaping. Imagine my surprise when I got a bill for over $300!! apparently it was $75 an hour and since they sent out 2 people it racked up quick. (They were nice about this mistake and changed the charge.) That was over a year ago. I still have yet to see any report or advice on landscaping even though I have talked to and been told I would get it twice now!!! So I have still paid $75 for absolutely NOTHING!!! read more
