Instead, I encountered a level of indifference and unprofessionalism that left me feeling alone when support mattered most. At a point when every decision carried serious consequences for my family, I did not feel heard, nor did I feel that my children's best interests were being meaningfully considered. The legal process was already overwhelming and never bring in tbis type of a situation very naïve, but having an attorney who seemed disengaged and unwilling to advocate for us made an already painful situation even more difficult. I often felt as though I was navigating the process on my own, despite having retained legal representation. My children and I have lived with the consequences of that outcome for years. Through our own resilience, perseverance, and healing, we have built a better life. We are doing well today, but that is the result of our own efforts, not the support we received during that time.
