We popped over this weekend for some fresh air and fall family photos. I am always just in awe of how busy the park is year round. Since my last review both of my kiddos have had the chance to take school field trips out to visit the Conservation Education Center, which is located at the park. It offers year-round educational programs and workshops. The staff is knowledgeable and the kids always have a blast. There's something for everyone at this gem. A bird blind for bird watchers. Access to the entire shoreline for anglers. Nine miles of trails for hikers and cross-country skiers. Seven historic bridges for photographers and families looking for fun family photos :) A large campground for campers-- available April through October. As well as a handful of picnic shelters (available via reservation). And, of course, Kent Park beach, my family's favorite (open Memorial Day through Labor Day) -- it is pristine, free and a great time. Overall, FW Kent Park is a wonderful place to get outside and clear your head. Drive over and explore today!

Definitely a favorite! Now that the lake has been re-opened, the park is better than ever. What I…read moreenjoy most about Kent Park is the diversity of options for activities. The park boasts a swimming beach, a nice trail around the entirety of the lake with benches if you want to stop and enjoy the views. There are many picnic shelters around the park, and a gazebo in the middle of a prairie area. I recommend taking a hike through the prairie trails. I'm also partial to taking a hike through the forest as well, or around the lake...heck, try them all at whatever length or difficulty you choose! There is a large playground area as well as a campground, so something for everyone. It's common to see many people out around the lake fishing and kayakers exploring the water.

The staff was always very accommodating for our events. I like the long length of the sites and they're all 50A FHU. We used the laundry as well. For this stay, there were brand new commercial machines. We enjoy staying here when visiting the area.

Disappointing End to an Otherwise Pleasant Stay…read more Our experience at Amana Colonies RV Park was positive for most of our stay, but unfortunately, the last two weeks completely soured what could have been a five-star review. We stayed for a total of nine weeks, and during the first seven, everything was as expected--peaceful, functional, and enjoyable. However, in the final two weeks, we encountered significant issues related to the electrical setup at our site, which ultimately left a lasting negative impression. While we were away for five days, the breaker at our site tripped, cutting power to our RV. This meant that both of our AC units were off during a period of high temperatures, and more frustratingly, our refrigerator turned into what can only be described as a "microwave" for all the food stored inside. Upon returning, we found all the food spoiled, a problem we obviously couldn't have predicted or controlled while we were away. Initially, I thought perhaps the issue was with our RV's fuse panel, but after inspecting the electrical panel on-site, it was clear that the breaker was the culprit. We reset the breaker, and while the power came back on briefly, it continued to trip over the following days. Given that we were using the campsite primarily for work purposes and often returned late at night, the last thing on our minds was to check the refrigerator or troubleshoot further after long workdays. When the breaker tripped again, more food was spoiled by the time we returned. Upon departure, we spoke with a staff member who expressed that he was being overworked and juggling 4-5 tasks simultaneously due to a lack of manpower during the busy events at the park. He was very kind and helpful, but it was clear that this is a long-standing issue that has gone unresolved for years, despite his efforts. I brought this matter to the attention of the campsite manager, who surprisingly placed the blame on us for not notifying them that the breaker had tripped. I was quite taken aback by this response, as I'm unsure how we could have predicted such a thing while away. Given that everything had worked fine for the first seven weeks, we assumed the initial breaker trip was a one-off issue. We did our due diligence by resetting it, not realizing the breaker itself was faulty. What made this situation truly unfortunate was the manager's lack of ownership. It was clear from our experience that the fault lay with the campsite's electrical system, not our RV. Our 50-amp RV can run both AC units and multiple outlets simultaneously without issue. This was not a matter of overloading the system on our end--it was a problem with the breaker. While the staff member we spoke with was understanding and sympathetic, the way management handled this situation was deeply disappointing. The lack of accountability and the dismissive attitude left us feeling frustrated and let down, especially after what had otherwise been a great stay. I write this review not out of spite, but to share our experience in the hope that others might avoid the same issues. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend Amana Colonies RV Park, as the final weeks of our stay left my family and me with a very sour taste. I sincerely hope they address their electrical infrastructure and reconsider how they handle situations like this moving forward.

We sometimes do classic car tours across Iowa along America's longest highway, and the Sudbury Court is one of my favorite stops. (Before I go any further, I pay full price for my rooms, and they are not currently members of the association. So my review is neither biased nor solicited.) My wife and I, along with several other couples on our tours have stayed there many times over the past 4 years, and have enjoyed reasonable rates, clean rooms, and great hospitality. While the amenities are not fully up to some modern standards, the rooms are clean, well maintained, and comfortable, and do feature Wi-Fi, AC, and cable. Sure, a mini fridge would be nice, but you also don't find those in rooms that cost a great deal more every time. Besides the great rates and comfort, you also can't ignore the "cool" factor. How many motels these days have a neon sign? The Sudbury Court is a good old fashioned, well kept up, American owned piece of history. It's hard to ask for more than that. And here is the clincher. Because they are locally owned, and not part of some big chain, the money you spend with them stays in the community and benefits people near them. This is not only good for Marengo, Iowa, this is good for America. Whenever you travel, try and do business with locally owned. It's win-win.

They had an after hours checking drop box, but they didn't give us other information like the bathroom code. The phone number provided just went to voicemail and it was for reservations only. The next morning a lady came to our site asking if we needed the code for the restroom. We said we got it from someone else. She got upset with us that we did that. I said it would be nice if there was a means to get that information outside of office hours. She snapped back saying most people call during office hours. I said that we didn't even know this place existed until after there office was closed. We're just passing through. She said once again that most people call during office hours. I reiterated that we just found out about this place after their office was closed. For the prices they are charging it would be nice to have access to all amenities upon arrival even if it is outside of office hours. She just turned her back and stomped away. Very poor customer experience. The campground was decent.
