I had a 1:45 PM appointment with Brenna Ewing at Johnson County Dermatology today, and my experience was one of the most frustrating I've had with any medical office. I left more than 30 minutes early for my appointment but got caught in a major traffic accident backup on the highway. As a courtesy, I called the office five minutes before my scheduled appointment to explain the situation and let them know I would arrive by 2:00 PM or sooner. I arrived at exactly 2:00 PM and immediately went inside to check in. Only then was I informed that I was in the wrong building and needed to go across the parking lot to another office. After going to the correct location and checking in, I sat for several minutes before being told that Brenna Ewing would not see me because of a strict 15-minute late policy. What makes this especially frustrating is that I was physically on-site at 2:00 PM and was delayed further because the staff initially directed me to the wrong building. I explained the situation and even asked if she could simply take a quick look at the spot on my face that I had come in to have examined. The answer was no. I was told I could wait an hour and hope to be worked in or simply reschedule. This is a perfect example of the double standard that exists in healthcare today. If a provider runs 15, 30, or even 60 minutes behind schedule, patients are expected to wait without complaint. But when a patient encounters circumstances beyond their control, calls ahead as a courtesy, arrives on the property within the allotted time, and is then delayed further by office confusion, there is apparently zero flexibility or consideration. Customer service, common sense, and basic courtesy were completely absent. I understand offices need scheduling policies, but there should also be room for professional judgment and compassion. Instead, I felt treated like a number rather than a patient. Very disappointing experience, and unfortunately it left me with little confidence in either the patient-first philosophy or professionalism of this practice. read more

Honestly my only complaint is the office can be very hard to reach with being put on hold, called back, etc... other than that I've received the best care here from Dr. Claire Denk and her staff. The front staff has always been friendly and helpful. read more

The staff are horrible and take forever to respond (if they ever do). They seem to judge, speak condescending to patients and don't attempt to be helpful. Dr Prossick seems to care and be knowledgeable but I can't deal with the snotty staff any longer. Good luck with that. read more

Dr. Stadler from Johnson County Dermatology was very unhelpful and poorly executed any decency as a professional. This is an understatement. I have no idea why some clients are satisfied with this behavior but maybe these doctors only treat what is easy for them. Unfortunately they don't consider using their knowledge to make a change in people's lives. my daughter had gone here for a skin condition she had been referred by PCP, as soon as the seem assistant walked in and heard her say she feels itchy like something was crawling there was an instant diagnosis of Dilusional pararsitosis without the doctor seeing her! we saw another dermatologist last week, she had a biopsy that showed pinworms. treated within 2 days, what would you do? read more

They called me and I was put on hold. Then they disconnected me. I figured they would call back right away since they were already calling me back. I tried calling 5 times before I could get a hold of someone. Then when I got a hold of them they can't get my teen daughter in till the end of January. The poor girl has a new skin issue and she just has to be miserable til the end of January?! My family has been going there for years and we've never had issues like this. read more

I don't normally write reviews but I had a wonderful experience from start to finish. The facility was beautiful (parents the bathroom has a place to change diapers) and staff greeted me at the door. The nurse that walked me back to the room and spoke with me was professional but conversational. Dr. Kroh was AMAZING. I don't love going to the doctor, so when I do get ready for 900 questions. She listened and was not in any hurry. She also asked me several times if I had questions. She was thorough in my skin check and removed a few things on the spot. I'm already looking forward to my next appointment. This is also a PSA to do an annual skin check. :-). I recommend Dr Kroh and Johnson County Dermatology. read more

If you can get past the front desk staff and the "self-service portal" (aka - they don't want to talk to you any more than they absolutely have to portal) that won't work correctly, the actual medical care is sufficient. Today I reached my limit with the "customer facing" side of this practice and am going elsewhere. read more

The best dermatologist I've ever been too! The staff IS so friendly, helpful and it is easy to get appointments. The only negative experience I had was a nurse extracting my millia (which she did for free to help me out) I just have a few red marks, but nothing bad! I would highly recommend this place for anyone looking for a top quality dermatologist, the services are WELL priced compared to others. Been going here for 6 years :). I really like this office. This was our first visit. Staff was nice and professional. We barely waited at all. I took my teen ager to see Retta Webb . We really liked her. She treated my daughter for acne. Retta seemed very knowledgeable, gave my daughter a couple of prescriptions and sent us on our way! We had gone to a dermatologist group in Overland Park a few months earlier , several times for the same condition. My teen ager was told to just wash her face. What a waste of our time and money that was! For teenagers acne is a big deal! Our time at Joco Dermatology including a very comprehensive exam, was 30 mintues, that included waiting room time ! Very happy zero time was spent in the waiting room! They may have a strict policy about not showing up for appointments but they seem to run a very efficient pratice. read more

This office is conveniently located close to my house so I have tried it twice with two different doctors. I don't consider this place a real dermatology practice. The first time I brought my daughter in when a dime sized spot on her head started getting crusty and bleeding. The doctor didn't know what it was, took a photo of it and told me she would call me once she showed it to her colleagues. This gave me no confidence in her expertise. I then took my daughter to another dermatologist elsewhere who examined it, quickly told me what it was and gave me options. He said any dermatologist should easily be able to identify it. That's was three years ago. Today I took my other daughter in bc I couldn't get in quickly anywhere else. She has a new black mole the size of a pencil eraser that has kept me up at night. I took off work, drove from downtown, and waited 40 minutes to have the doctor once again take out her iPhone and take a picture a foot away from it and tell me she would call me if her colleagues think it is concerning. No magnifying light was used and no measurement was taken, but I am to come back in three months to see if it has grown or changed. I want an appointment with the colleagues that actually examine and diagnose. I also asked about youth acne. She offered an antibiotic but again didn't really look at her. I walked out feeling no peace of mind from when I went in and will have to take more time off and more money to go see another dermatologist who will actually do what a dermatologist is supposed to do. read more

Did a very good job for me. I had two skin conditions and they elimated them one at a time. They also referred me to a pharmacy that saved me more than $200 (I checked prices at other pharmacies) for the expensive medication necessary to treat my skin condition. read more

I had a cyst develop on the lower part of my left cheek and it hurt so bad. I finally went to Urgent Care to see if they could give me some relief. The PA there told me that I should really get to a dermatologist because this cyst was to deep into the skin for them to lance it. I told him had been to Johnson County dermatology before and he said would help me get fast tracked to see a dermatologist about this cyst and getting in to the office to have them lance it open. I called and after five to six rings the phone was answered. I told the receptionist who I was and she said do you need an appointment. I explained that should have paperwork there from Urgent Care's office and that I really needed to be seen about this cyst. She was away from the phone for maybe two minutes only to say they could not see me any time this week. Just keep calling to see about cancelations. How rude and unprofessional could someone be to a patient in need. I am grateful that the cyst finally broke open on its own. I am not going back to this establishment ever again. They don't care to help you emergency or no emergency. read more

My 3.5 year old had broken out in a terrible, blistering rash all over her hand and arm. She could barely sleep it hurt/itched so bad. Our pediatrician said it was just a reaction to a plant/bug bite and told us to give her Zyrtec. The next day it had spread further so we decided to get a second opinion. It was a Friday morning and I really wanted her to be seen before the weekend. Their next opening was Wednesday of the following week, but they arranged for a provider to see us at 11:30 Friday...I assume during what was supposed to be their lunch break. The doc who saw us had 2 other docs look at the rash to confirm, but they all agreed it was shingles! We got on meds and within 48 hours my daughter was back to herself again. The doc was very patient to sit with us and answer our many questions regarding how a toddler could get shingles! Very grateful for them working her in and getting us the correct diagnosis! We will definitely use them for any future dermatological needs! read more

The doctor was running late and I had to wait nearly one hour after my scheduled appointment time. It is hard to understand how they can already be running this late at 10am. Once I saw the doctor she seemed rushed and in a hurry. She spent approximately 4 minutes with me total. This was my first appointment in this office. As a new patient I would expect some verbal review of my medical history during the visit. In combination with not doing this, based on her comments in the exam room she did not appear to have reviewed the paperwork I completed documenting prior medical history. This is a very professional practice with wonderful providers. I am the esthetician on staff. We do microderabraison, facials, dermaplaning, waxing and we have a wide variety of chemical peels. My goal is to educate patients and teach them about skin care. The cosmetic industry is a multi-billion dollar industry, don't get lost in it and buy unnecessary products. I recently made an appointment that I cancelled within 24 hours of the appointment. A week later I received a bill in the mail for $100 for a "no-show" fee for an appointment that would have cost me $50 to come to. Apparently, they have a policy that you will be charged a fee if you don't to cancel by noon the prior business day. When making the appointment I wasn't informed of this policy nor was I informed when cancelling the appointment of the policy. For that type of fee I would expect that this would have been communicated. When speaking to Megan at Johnson County Derm. regarding the fee she informed me that the appointment desk should have notified me of the policy and will remind them to do so moving forward, but I still have to pay the fee. I will NEVER go back to this place again. read more

Tried to get a follow up appointment on an open wound from a squamous cell carcinoma procedure. I am going to be out of the Country for 10 days and was wanting an appointment to get advice on specific wound care in a foreign country, aka what to take with me. Went in for a check up in December. Saw a PA (I won't disclose her name). She missed one large spot on my face that I had to point out to her that ended up requiring Mohs Surgery. I paid the bill in March. Then in May I got an adjustment on the bill and owed another $100. My phone call with them said they had a coding error and, of course, adjusted it upward. After pointing all these things out and the fact that the PA did not do her job, I was told I still had to pay the bill. I'm not impressed at all with their competency in the exam room or their back office. read more

I go to see Jesse Watts and she is amazing. Last year I was diagnosed with skin cancer, pretty scary moment in my life. Although I was referred to another surgeon and after that I had to go to Midwest Cancer Care, she kept up with me the whole time and continued to call me personally. I would absolutely NOT recommend this office to anyone. I had seen Dr. Stagge, when she was at another office. I made an appointment to have 2 moles removed. I was out of town when the appointment was, do to a death in the family - I never received a confirmation call or I would have rescheduled right then. They sent me a bill for $100!!!! for a missed appointment, I have never been in their office or signed paperwork. First Issue: I took my 18 year old daughter to JC Derm last summer. The office visit was fine. She was given two prescriptions and was given free samples for one of the prescriptions. I was told the prescriptions would be called in to my local pharmacy. When I went to pick up the prescriptions the next day, they had not been called in. When I called JC Derm about this, the male staff I spoke with said, "Well, you got some free samples.' We had only received free samples for one of the prescriptions. There was no apology for my going to the pharmacy and waiting in line for nothing after I had been told the prescriptions would be called in. He acted as if I was expecting something I didn't deserve. Second Issue: I did not expect to owe anything but the co-pay when I had taken my daughter in, but within a couple of weeks I received a bill for $105.86. I should have called my insurance company to check on this, but didn't. I was not planning on going back after the rude response I had gotten from the male staff, not to mention the prescriptions did not help my daughter's condition and had caused her severe stomach pain. (We had listed her medical history with stomach issues.) I paid half the bill, as this was not an expected expense. The next month, I chose to use a med bank card to pay most of this amount as I had a $50 allowance on this card. I paid the $50 online and thought about calling and asking them to waive the remaining $5.86 as I was not happy with the services, but thought I'd just pay the remaining amount the next time I sat down to pay bills. Within the next two weeks, I received three threatening letters and a phone call regarding the $5.86 I owed them. They sent an unmarked envelope to my daughter telling her that her credit score would be affected if she did not pay this bill. Being only 18 she was scared. By this time, I had paid the $5.86. I felt this was not only crazy but unprofessional that they went to this much time and effort for $5.86, especially when I hadn't even expected to owe them anything for these services and was not happy with the whole experience. I've always been happy with my health care providers so taking the time to post a review of this nature is a new experience for me. read more
