The reason to get excited about this place is you want to party with the whole bar, and you want a room full of people who feel the same way. John's Bar is exactly that. It is near the major hotels and tourist restaurants, but it is a lot of fun.
Trip Advisor reviewers all say that this is NOT the place to experience nightlife in Oslo. You won't understand how loaded that statement is until you experience other cool bars and then John's bar. Unlike the bars at Hedgehaugveien or Aker Brygge, well, let's just say that this is not a stand around and look pretty kind of place.
This place is as wild as advertised. I had more beer spilled on me in 20 minutes here than in the last two months hanging at other places. I am glad I left Hugo Boss at home. The bouncers and security are hard at work - I saw guys getting walked or dragged out every twenty minutes. In fact, this is the first bar I saw anyone escorted out from in the last two months. Oh, and Norway's Next Top Model won't be shooting any scenes here anytime soon... Ladies, guys are very handsy here. Guys, guys are very handsy here. Yeah.
Other than all that, the drinks are less expensive here than other area places. The music is designed to get the crowd hyped up, no matter the genre (top 40, metal, rock, Norwegian folk songs). There are people dancing wildly on every free spot of flooring available, you really can't avoid having fun here. read more
