For years I've been very happy with Dr. John and I decided to write a positive review for him. I noticed three yelp reviews giving him a one! This made no sense to me, knowing Dr. John as I did, so I was curious and read them. They all have to do with different physician assistants in the office, but nothing to do with Dr. John. I don't think it's fair that people are giving Dr. John a poor rating when they are unhappy with a completely different provider's care. I think he's a great doctor and apparently other people do as well. He has been voted best doctor in North Santa Barbara County several times as has his brother Dr. Bob Okerblom. read more

This office is amazing! I saw Dr Diana Garcia there, and she was extremely thorough, capable, patient, and made great recommendations for my care. The office staff is very friendly, has a high sense of urgency, doesn't leave you waiting. Overall, it was one of the best medical experiences I've ever had. I've worked in the healthcare industry for over 17 years, and I am currently the chief marketing officer for my ophthalmology company, and I have not had such a positive experience like this in years. Had to change my primary provider since he retired. Chose this office since it's in the same group of providers. Showed up for my initial appointment and was told that I didn't have an appointment. Had to reschedule for 4 weeks later. Having knee problems for 2 months and needed some direction from the office for diagnosis and treatment. Left 2 messages which were completely ignored. Obviously there was no concern and am switching offices again. read more

I have been seeing Dr. John Okerblom for several years after my previous physician was unable to explain some of my chronic symptoms. Dr. John did a careful history and exam and ordered laboratory studies and discovered a diagnosis of cold agglutinin disease. This apparently is quite rare, which explains why the other doctor did not think of it. Dr. John is a very kind and compassionate Doctor who gives me plenty of time. He seems to be able to diagnose and treat almost everything, ranging from skin concerns to orthopedic problems. He was quick to refer me for specialty care when I needed more than he could do in the office. He is the best doctor I have ever seen. read more

Front desk staff is HORRIBLE. Office Manager Heidi does not return calls and when you finally talk to her she pawns you off on another lady named Maureen who is even worse. They use the excuse that they are short staffed but really they are just the worse front desk staff I have ever encountered for a doctors office. Never return calls or answer questions and most important get paperwork filled put when they say they will. I feel bad for the doctors that are good, but the staff up front don't care. read more

My family went here for years. Recently we have all experienced issues. The doctors, aside from Dr. John, are constantly changing. No one knows your name. You have to wait FOREVER. We've all switched doctors. It's hard to go to someone for medical attention when you don't feel comfortable in the office. read more

Dr John & Dr J and Physician Assistant (PA)Roxana who moved down south are great Drs & or PAs. I was in pain but my regular Dr Jer. Was on vacation so I had to go to a new PA because of pain and Dr John was booked. I had a bad experience with there new PA who found an abscess and I was in pain. The PA never offered pain mess or never offered to drain it. I was told Ibuprofen every 8 hours. The PA referred me to a specialist who wasn't available for more than 8 days. I went on a trip to Los Angeles and all of a sudden my pain was up to an 8-9 constant. I called back the Drs office spoke to their nice staff. They had staff call me and I told her I was in pain. She said can you come in right now we can have Dr John drain it. I was so angry I said I was never told you guys drain abscesses. I told her I'm in Los Angeles by the time I get home if I leave you guys will be closed. I was just ready to punch a wall because this PA who I will never see again left in this predicament. The lady staff got me a antibiotic transfer send to a Rite-Aide in Los Angeles. She tried very hard to help me calling me back but it was the PAs fault all along. The antibiotics didn't help because i need the abscess to be drained first. The next day I couldn't go they were closed for New Year's Eve & day plus the weekend. I get back home in so much pain it was just cuss word after cuss word at this PA out loud where ever I was. This PA ruined my entire New Years it was the worst one in my life. Don't get me wrong I love this office just not this new PA so be aware ask for a Dr not a PA. How can she leave a patient in so much pain. Don't let her come near you family Dr John or Dr Jer. are great. Central Coast Family Practice is A + they just have a PA who's pulling a D- in her duties. I had seen this practice for approximately 11 years with a few off in the middle when we moved to Arroyo Grande. Since coming back this office has changed. My last appointment was with Diana A. PA. She walked in and saw me turning my phone off sand stormed out saying, "You are on your phone I'm seeing my next patient." I left the room and rescheduled. She came out demanding to speak with me. I said no 3 times explaining it was fine and I just wanted to see my normal doctor. I've had a sore throat for a month and have been in the urgent care twice and needed to review labs and get a refill on my medications. After leaving I called the Medical Board to start a complaint and ask what to do as I felt very uncomfortable and harassed when she would not let me just reschedule with my regular care provider and leave. This morning I wake to a message that I am being discharged from the practice (after I have filed a complaint on her) and my appointment today is canceled. So as of tomorrow I have no medications and still have to see a primary for my throat. Complete negligence of care. I would not recommend this practice at all. Most staff are kind and competent, but others do not help or listen to you and make you feel uncomfortable when you try to reschedule with another provider. read more

Dr John and his staff are outstanding. His many years of practice has given him the experience and knowledge to deal with any situation. His diagnosis and treatment has always been spot on. He has great "bedside manners" and makes you feel comfortable and confident in every visit. I highly recommend him. He has been my physician for nearly 30 years. I wouldn't want anyone else. Scarlett Oberblom is a liar and after 40 years at this office said I had zero norco in my system and a told me I lying about a concussion I had with a fractured skull that I had Diana look at and told me not true she also said constantly she doesn't want to get flagged so she sent me a discharge notice not a pa-c for good health more worried herself than the patient.She walked out and said get another doctor and with uncontrollable blood pressure and major depression that's considered me for the next victim surely not the doctor for chonic neck pain high blood pressure and depression called blue shield and a lawyer and both said I have a case blue shield looked at my records and said they will not recommend her. First I have to say that the actual doctor is great. Its getting back to see him that is the challenge. I first went to this office about two years ago and went quite often for an ongoing problem I had. There was never a time that I waited less than an hour and a half to see the doctor and once waited over TWO HOURS! This wasn't a one time thing where there was an emergency perhaps. This was EVERY single time I went. I trusted the doctor and was in pain so I waited it out each time. As if that wasn't bad enough, the worst part about this office is the girls that work there. They are rude and uncaring. All they seem to care about is the money part of it and seem put out with you when trying to get an appointment or your test results. I think many of them are in the wrong profession. I even spoke to the doctor about this and he said that many of them aren't good at dealing with people that don't feel well. Excuse me?? This is their JOB?! Thank goodness I didn't need to see a doctor for awhile but then this past week a similar issue arose and I wanted to talk to the doctor about it since he is who I saw before. Before I even was taken to the back I was told that my insurance might not be accepted there starting next month because Blue Cross wasn't paying the doctor enough for his time. I was also told that my insurance had left a balance and I needed to pay that in full at that time. I was taken to the back and waited the usual HOUR AND A HALF before seeing the doctor. After discussing my issue he also told me that Blue Cross was not paying him enough for his time and may not be accepting it any longer. I then went to leave and was chased down in the parking lot to come back and handle my balance. I went back in and was met with the RUDEST little girl at the reception desk I've ever dealt with in my life. She literally would not hand me my prescription until I handed her a check for the payment in full. I even asked her if she was holding my prescription hostage. She had it in one hand and the other outstretched for my check. On top of this they also told me that they have implemented a new policy to keep my credit card number on file for all payments. That this was a new policy for all patients! I've never in my life been to a more money hungry doctor's office!!!! I spent more time discussing money than I did my health issues. I left there completely disgusted and will never go there again. When I refused to give them my credit card information (they say it was like a hotel) she said they can no longer schedule appointments for me and would give me a medical release for another doctor. What happened to the health care system in this country? Or is it just this rude, money hungry office?! Do yourself a favor and schedule somewhere else!! read more

Dr. John Okerblom and his staff are just wonderful and courteous. His mid levels may change every so often but overall the providers in his practice are always spectacular and know what they are doing. Dr. John currently treats lipids most providers aren't even testing for that indicate your cardiac risk factor. His cardio knowledge is something I would have never expected from a family doctor. He takes his time with me and my family and actually does an EXAM! Many doctors now it seems don't even touch their patients. Dr. John always does a physical exam and is always confident in his abilities to diagnose. He won't send you to a specialist unless it's necessary; which is very nice because a lot of family doctors will not do a thorough exam and will just send you to a specialist for the simplest of things. I highly recommend Dr. John Okerblom's practice to anyone seeking a primary care physician. read more
