There is a restroom but NO amenities or food available for purchase. Bring everything you need with you. Once we arrived, there was a tour guide but it wasn't much of a tour. She walked us to the other side of the island to show us two horses on the beach and then walked all the way back to where we started to show us where to find the best shells. Her "tour" lasted about 30 minutes. We did most of the exploring on our own and that's when we found the majority of the horses. As long as you aren't looking for a super guided tour, this is a great day trip!

Dogs need there space not to be in the middle of an active field with small dogs, ppl, children. That's a bad connection. The trainers bring dogs that have no control of their senses to a family park in an open space. Park department should not allow this. My dad trained German shepherd , Doberman and he trained them indoor until they were well trained and obedience. If they continue to get complains the park department may listen. I don't know why they are not investigating yet. I would hate to have find another park for my pup because of safety.

The below page from AB's website shows that this place is only two years old and that its $1.6 million dollar cost was done as a public/private partnership. I've been to many beaches up & down the east coast and I honestly can't think of an area that has something quite like this. atlanticbeach-nc.com/departments/parks-recreation/ ABTP offers the following: Free live music on Thursday nights from mid-June thru August. Free family friendly movies (with the exception of them showing Jaws last month which was an interesting choice with the shark attack that happened in June at Fort Macon) on Wednesday nights June thru August. Skate Park Splashpad Playground/swingset Basketball Court Minigolf for $5 per person and it's free for ages 6 and under The main building which sells snacks & concessions and has restrooms along with free Wifi. The concession area and the golf are open 10-10 daily and it goes without saying that they are closed along with things like the splashpad seasonally. Compared with beaches in New Jersey or Maryland, Atlantic Beach is very understated in the amenities that it offers but I don't think that is necessarily a detriment. If you want all the bells and whistles it's not that much further to go to Myrtle or head north to KDH or OCMD and you'll find what you're looking for. But if you want quiet and relaxed with a very nice small town "homey" feeling then this is the spot you want. A+

We were told this would be a good spot to find trails to go for a short run, and it was true. There was plenty of trails, to safely walk and run on, rather than along the busy road with beach bums driving by at crazy speeds. There is plenty of parking and nicely maintained trails we found. After our run, we decided to poke into the fort it self, which was free to enter, and we explored some of the space, and some of the educations exhibits. They had a little bit of something for everyone, and tried to make the visitors center exciting and fun for kids. I'd 100% visit this spot again, maybe when it's not so hot, but either way, we enjoyed our visit. The park and fort are well maintained, and preserved, with clean restrooms, and staff to answer any questions you might have.

This park contains one of the best disc golf courses in the New Bern area. Barring a few instances over the past year, this course has been well maintained and a blast to play. The first half has more open long range holes, and the second half gets deep into the woods with some really tricky shots. Most holes have two difficulty levels, as evidenced by the different starting pads and baskets. Overall, this course is challenging, and it's a beautiful hike to boot. B. This park has a lot of different species of frogs, toads and lizards. It's a ton of fun to just walk around and try to spot as many different little creatures as you can find. Being right on the bank of the Neuse means there are always interesting things to poke and the views are nothing to shake a stick at either. C. Glenburnie has a pretty awesome playground that my young nieces just love to visit. The equipment is very well maintained and is kept well stocked with plenty of children for your youngins to play with. As an adult, I find myself wanting to climb the giant rock they have at the playground every time I visit. D. Snakes!? Why'd it have to be snakes? During the spring time, I've noticed a water moccasin or two sunning themselves on the disc golf course between holes 5 and 10. As I said before, the grounds are well-kept at Glenburnie Park, so keep your eyes open and be aware of your surroundings and its not an issue. Overall, I love this park. I visited on a warm weekday afternoon between Christmas and New Years and saw only a few other folks out on the trail. There's a big loop that's about 1.5 miles, or you could do a shorter loop. The trail is mostly shaded and quite flat, making it an easy stroll and accessible for kids (including strollers) and people who need low intensity hikes; there are many benches along the way. Many parts are wooden bridges out over the marshland; at the right time of day you can see fiddler crabs in the water. (If it's recently rained, don't go at high tide; parts of the trail may be wet or muddy!) You'll find a really nice variety of trees and micro climates- the grasses and small trees in the marsh land are quite different from the hardwood forests and pines just a few feet further inland. The grounds are beautiful, peaceful, and rich with history. Even though only some of the flowers are blooming right now, there is still plenty to enjoy--towering live oaks draped in Spanish moss, winding paths, ponds, sculptures, and the feeling that you've stepped back into old Wilmington. The famous Airlie Oak and the historic chapel make it feel more like wandering through a living postcard than just another garden. Airlie dates back to the late 1800s and was created by Sarah and Pembroke Jones before becoming a public garden preserved for future generations. The gardens are well kept, easy to stroll through, and especially lovely this time of year with the Azalea Festival season beginning. It is the kind of place where you slow down, take a deep breath, and remember that nature did landscaping long before homeowners associations started issuing warning letters. The one drawback--and for us older folks it is a real one--is that there simply are not enough restrooms spread throughout the grounds. With so much walking involved, having a few more bathrooms around the gardens would make a tremendous difference and would make the experience more comfortable for seniors and families. Overall: 4 out of 5 stars. A beautiful, historic Wilmington treasure that is absolutely worth visiting, especially in the spring--just be sure to make a restroom stop before setting out on the trails.
