The first remodel, conducted immediately after we purchased the home in 1996, added three bedrooms, a full bathroom, TV room, work-out room and home office to the unfinished basement. This work was done through an architect who recommended the general contractor for whom Daron worked. This was a $75K project. The second remodel finished in 2001 started with an excavation of basement and foundation to patch multiple leaks through the uphill basement wall and continued with the addition of a patio, hot tub and pool, with a cedar arbor built onto two sides of the home including over the excavated space. Also a dormer was added to an upstairs bedroom and additional work on the bedroom and attached bathroom in that space. This was a $200K project. The third (and final) remodel finished in 2012, in Daron's words, built "a house within a house". This was a demo of the main floor master bedroom/bathroom and kitchen to be replaced by a guest suite and much larger kitchen and including a significant widening of the home entry area and hallway. The upper floor that had received the dormer in the second remodel was also demolished and converted into a new master suite to die for including a second dormer and too much more to describe here. This was a $425K project. Along the way in 2004 we demo'd and reconstructed a large new deck on the downhill side of our home and in 2006 attached a new, large carport to our detached garage and added an arbor off the basement home office, both styled to match the patio/pool arbor built in the second remodel - these were $20K and $35K projects, respectively. After the initial remodel all the work we did was through DTR Construction with Daron and his crew. My wife and Daron did all the design work together, mostly in real time in the third and final remodel. We absolutely LOVE our "new" home. Daron is a joy to work with, and he and his crew do only the highest quality work. When you are doing the kind of significant remodeling we did, you get to know your general contractor and crew very well, so these words are related with that experience. We would not consider any other general contractor than Daron doing any major work on our home. But we do hope we are finally done with this sort of thing ;-)

My experience has taught me that one of the keys to a good contractor is their ability to find and keep good subcontractors. Almost all of the subcontractors that worked on our remodel were top-notch. In any remodel, issues arise that complicate the work, especially those that involve more than one trade. We had several significant ones. We worked with Liran to insure that good decisions were made to resolve them including allowing me to work on the remodel to insure that the project wasn't unduly delayed. It is very important to Liran to make sure that his clients are happy. For example, we liked the LVT installation in our kitchen so much that we decided we wanted to replace carpet in a 'hub' area. Josh and Jake are a two-man dynamic duo. They efficient, intelligent, very honest and polite. They totally "remade" our small, inefficient bathroom. They tore it down to the studs, moved a window to create a beautiful shower, and turned the room into a functional work of art. And they did it on budget! We hit a snag because my hubby wanted cultured marble for the shower and Josh does tile (as in our beautiful heated floor). We chose a lower bid, (our mistake) and the guys didn't know how to cut the shower window and niche properly. When Josh saw the poor quality work he got right on the phone and let them know (in no uncertain terms), their work would have to be redone! It was all fixed to our satisfaction. Jake was here when they came back to supervise. Josh and Jake do top quality work and don't put up with subcontractor folly. But they graciously bear with clients who sometimes "overreact." They dug post holes on 11/15/15 and got their second payment. Did not see them again until April 2016 when they began working again. When framing was finished on 5/3/16, they got third payment. After several calls, they finished on May 20. TEN MONTHS to do a 10x24 pole barn. And they charged the full $12,500. Bob said he incurred several expenses that he had to absorb. I was going to have them do the same exact construction on the other side of my existing barn but will never use this company again. If you want a good contractor, use Nelson Creek Construction ... you get what you pay for and they are on time. They are building my new addition (see photo of what took ten (10) months at an outrageous price!
