No pain at all and it had been some time since I was able to do a cleaning. I've been doing Invisalign for TMJ and a poor bite and making great progress- I highly recommend going the Invisalign route with Dr. Talbot if you are considering braces. I've mentioned this is another review, but it bears repeating- the dentist I saw before Dr. T wanted to pull my back molar and do a root canal. I went to Dr. Talbot for a few reasons, I wanted her opinion on my tooth, I wanted to do Botox on my masseters for jaw/TMJ/face pain and I wanted to do braces. She saved my tooth (I didn't need a root canal at all), and I've been able to do Botox and Invisalign with her to help with chronic jaw pain. I love her approach, her bedside manner and so appreciate her expertise and excellent care. I can't say enough great things too about the entire staff who are so professional and kind. I always have a great experience and I highly recommend Dr. Talbot's dentistry for all dental needs.

Also on my first appointment, they encouraged me to buy ioRinse mouthwash, which I did, and in the three weeks between the diagnosis and my first cleaning, things got so much better that the bill was reduced by a factor of 4. It helped so much that the dentist, who said she knew it to be helpful, told me she was befuddled.

My husband and I have been patients at this office for 24 years…read more We have experienced multiple dental issues due to our respective genetic lotteries; cavities, old fillings failures, abcesses, even nerve absorption have required root canals, crowns and a bridge, as well as long discussions about the value of dental implants. Of course DPoW is not the cheapest place to get your teeth cleaned. If cost is your only issue, I'm sure you can find cheaper. I don't think you can find better value. Working within your insurance benefits to get the best value and long term results is addressed from the start. Over the years, one dentist retired, some office personnel have been added, and the technology has been upgraded as it became available. The only thing that hasn't changed is the beauty and comfort of the waiting room and restroom. Think Downton Abbey sumptuous with scrupulous hygiene. The building is set back from the street on a narrow lot so it doesn't appear as large as it is. The exterior is modern and well maintained, and the parking lot is more than adequate (and happily devoid of the sink-like potholes that plague Huntsville). It's easy to miss the single driveway, just north of the Steak Out. Tastefully restrained signs and building exterior are obscured or overwhelmed by the Steak Out, whose building has minimal set back and garish signage. There are steps up to the covered entrance, and a long uncovered ramp for wheelchair access. This ramp is accessed from the handicap parking just to the left immediately as you enter the driveway. This might be a problem for caregivers of those in wheelchairs. Pushing a chair while holding an umbrella is difficult. The heavy downpours we often get in Huntsville make covered pull-thru drop off entrances a blessing for wheelchair access, and DPoW doesn't have one. This is not to say the elderly shouldn't become patients. In all other ways, I couldn't think of a more appropriate office. BTW, this is an all-female business, if that's of any import (my husband's preference, not just mine). Both dentists work hard to keep their education current and their technology the newest, but they do refer root canals out to an Endodontist. The office staff is experienced and competent. The hygienists are all that and more. They work really hard to ensure absolutely no patient discomfort. Patients get warmed neck pillows and comfy blankets. The chairs and equipment are new and each room equipped with a video screen to explain findings. But the most salient feature is this: they absolutely and sincerely care about their patients. There's just no way we could have been fooled over two decades. I can tell when people like being at work. I'm a skeptic. Businesses always pay lip service to the need to project a caring attitude, but they can't ensure it if the people employed don't have it already in their nature, from the receptionists and clerks on up to both dentists. I suspect it's a corporate culture thing and they've let go employees who weren't like them... caring from the get go. There's a private consultation room to discuss whatever, so just ask to use it and be honest about what you can and can't afford. You don't have to discuss how you're going to pay for services in front of other patients. Also, discuss how you want to be reminded to confirm appointments. They use live calls as well as texting and e-mail. You choose any or all.

I went in for my 6 month checkup, and I asked if I owed anything and the receptionist stated I owed $130+ dollars. I explained my insurance covered all my cleanings and the receptionist stated they no longer take my insurance. I asked why they no take my BCBS and she stated she didn't know and I needed to pay for my cleaning. I asked why they didn't call me and let me know prior that they were out of network. She stated it is not required or policy to call patients and let them know in advance they are no longer in network and will have to pay out of pocket. If I wanted my teeth cleaned today, I needed to pay. I then ask if they were going to tell me prior to my cleaning that they no longer take my insurance. She said all bills are paid after service. If I was to not have asked, she would have not told me and I would be out of pocket for anything they would have done that day. I explained that I would not get my cleaning done there From this point forward and they should have called me as a courtesy and told me that my insurance was no longer taken by them. I would recommend going somewhere else for my dental care. If you are like me and my family that are on a fixed income, then you need a dental office that is reliable and professional. There are too many good and better dental offices around the area to go to a place where they don't put their clients first.

My dental hygienist and I have an understand that no eye contact shall be made during my appointments. I get "Mr. Nose"... If you know, you know... And I just breathe deep and look to the left. I wear glasses with a big prescription so I can't see during this whole experience at the dentist. Today's visit was a cleaning and impressions for a night guard. Totally appreciate the fact that the impression goop was strawberry flavored. "How does that factor in when you don't eat it?", you might ask. Well, at just the time you feel like your gag reflex is going to kick in, the scent of strawberry flew into Mr. Nose and it was amazing and familiar from the old days of the pediatric dental office I went to. There was a moment where the dental hygienist and I made contact during the impressions and both immediately looked away in fear of explosion. Took some deep breaths from Mr. Nose and I was able to stable myself from my odd fear. Other random discussions occurred about tongue placement which was humorous for sure. I'm looking forward to future days of flavored toothpaste, maybe some flavored Mr. Nose, and chaps stick (some of my suggestions/requests). Plus side for the kids, there is a toy chest and they do carry some flavored tooth paste. Ended up at check out to discuss some Star Wars and I got to say, today was a good day.

My crown post broke and I was left without a front tooth. I went to Dr. Cook for options and after extensive discussion decided to put a new post in and a temporary crown so my dentist at home could then replace the temporary with a new crown. But when Dr Cook got into the process he discovered an old-school resin that had been used to fill the root canal and determined that the chances of success for a new crown were significantly reduced. Rather than continuing with the new post, he simply glued the old crown back in place and suggested that I discuss my options with my dentist at home. Wow... He had the opportunity to charge me for a new post that probably would have been unsuccessful but instead was honest and told me that I would probably need an implant. Patient before profits. For me this is something significant and something I was extremely impressed by. On top of all of that, the office was friendly, extremely organized, and seamless throughout the entire process. I highly highly recommend Dr. Cook if you happen to be fortunate enough to live in an area where he can provide dental services for you.

I completed all the new patient forms online before I arrived. My appointment was at 8 but was asked to be there at 7:45. Somehow they were already running late and I didn't get brought back until 8:30. Nothing irritates me more than people wasting my time. When you go back to the room they have you rinse with hydrogen peroxide and wash your hands as part of their COVID procedures. I thought the peroxide thing was weird. Then, although I told them I was not getting X-rays because my insurance won't pay and they were waiting for my previous X-rays to arrive, the hygienist forced me to do them and swore up and down I won't be charged. I hope that doesn't come back up in the future... because I was very clear about it. When you leave, they schedule your next appointment and give you a bag with a toothbrush, floss, and toothpaste.
