F T R = First To Review & I Also Added This New Dental…read moreBusiness May 12, 2025 - Monday Review #516 "SMILE - There are 2 New Dentists In Macomb - R W Ruffino & K Whitford !" I checked out this new location and dental practice since my previous dentist is retiring later this year. What a wonderful referral with Dr. Frank Ruffino and also Dr. Krystin Whitford who are so professional in the many full range dental services and their personalities are amazing! They both credit continuing education in cutting-edge technology with dental service from routine care and teeth whitening to implants, root canals, and sleep apnea treatment. (So no more back and forth with a oral surgeon) The advance care technology includes digital, and full mouth panoramic X-rays, 3D Imaging, and same day crowns under high quality care and well being. I first visited Janet on May 1, 2025 for My 6 month check-up and teeth cleaning. Since I previously had an issue with a loose 20 year old porcelain crown she verified with insurance that I needed X-rays. The X-rays did show a crack in it plus the 30 year old white gold crown next to it on top left side was showing signs of decay since years ago in the 80's ? there was never a root canal done before the crown therefore two areas needed attention asap! Thank goodness for her efficiency and alertness while performing a full mouth exam on Me as a New Patient. She also used a new cleaning treatment called Sonicare. Then scanned the gumline and bone areas of density in My jaw and tooth roots. :-) After cleaning I met Dr. Frank Ruffino and we discussed the urgent needed 2 - 3 hour appointment to perform one root canal and new crown and replace an old cracked crown with white porcelain too. No BOGO here but thank goodness for good dental insurance and also My Care Credit Card that this dental practice accepts. Put My Money where My Mouth Is ! $$$ Upon Returning, Dr. Ruffino, assistants Brooke and Stephanie helped Me stay calm, relaxed and explained each step and procedure throughout the dental appointment. I received a large novacaine shot to the top left side. The high speed drill was painless plus short breaks in between the Removal of two crowns and cleaning out areas. I was given a nice 30 minute break while the CEREC 3D- Machine created the two crowns based the laser scanning machine used to measure and create them. The laser root canal machine was high tech and fast to remove the roots from the old white gold crown. It was comforting NOT to experience the 1980's old fashion way of a root canal with the drill, dig to pull and painful procedure. Thanks to high-quality care again here with dentist Dr. Ruffino. The process of fitting. measurement of bite was perfect with a tad of a high spot but naturally it can be normal for both crowns side by side. It took 3 days for my mouth to stabilize so the 1st weekend of May was soft foods. I can no longer eat or chew on sticky and hard foods or candies which is nbd. I was put on a steroid and anti-biotic for 7 days as a precaution based on the small infection before my cleaning appointment that I didn't realize I had starting up before the cracked smal andl old porcelain crown. I visited today as a follow-up and both white porcelain crowns are fitted well and adjustment is wonderful plus a another continued great SMILE ! I praise Dr. Ruffino and Dr. Whitford for their dental guidance, support, comfortable office, along with teamwork from staff at front desk to the assistants and the preventive dental care I received. I look forward to being positive and less nervous too at My future visits as well to keep My teeth stronger and for longer! New Office is Located At: 16792 21 Mile Road Macomb, MI. 48044 Phone: (586) 263-1200 www.ruffinodds.com He is accepting NEW patients with Free Sonicare as I had done. Please check out My Photos attached for this New Dental Practice. He also has a location at 51333 Mound Road in Shelby Township. Sincerely and Still Smiling, Karen N. (SpecialK) Macomb

"The Gentle Dentist" I had previously had issues with a few dentists that claimed to be the same... they would take care of you, make sure you were as comfortable as possible. Well, that wasn't the case at the other places that I had tried out for being a dentist. To be frank, I have a horrific fear of going to the dentist. Why that is? I have no idea... maybe its the fact that for some reason its painful... you're vulnerable... you're trusting those other people to do what they need to do so that you can continue being able to eat and do it without having any pain in life. From my first meeting with Dr. Antolak, I knew that this was going to be a completely different experience than any other dentist office I had ever been to. He sits down with you, gets to know you, actually listens to everything that you are worried, concerned, or that you have questions about. He will explain everything in terminology that you can understand, and he does everything in his power to make sure you're comfortable. The staff themselves are amazing. They remember you, they know your personal details, but most of all they put your dental health in front of everything else... They don't suggest having work done that isn't necessary. Another key reason why I had found Dr. Antolak is that he has been trained in Sedation Dentistry. Basically it is summed up that if you have fear of going to the dentist, have had bad experiences, or have severe anxiety like myself... they can provide you with medicine that will allow you to 'sleep' through your appointment. You go in, take some medicine, get all relaxed, lay back in the chair.... and then that is it. Everything is done. I could probably sit here for a while and rave about how kind and friendly everyone at the office is, but I would say that if you are in the search for a dentist... Dr. Antolak should be at the top of your list of dentists to check out in the area.

When I called to make an appointment for my husband and I, I told them I didn't want passwords and logins for anything. I was originally told that wouldn't be a problem. 20 minutes later, I start getting calls and texts demanding our emails. Even though, I didn't want to communicate with email I called them back with it. I still received SEVERAL phone calls and text messages about them wanting my email. It was very high pressure! Not a "gentle" experience. It was as invasive as a door to door sales that pushed their way into your front door and wouldn't leave. I called to let the office know that the new patient forms indeed required additional logins and passwords. Instead of offering an alternative solution, the rude staff said "well then this isn't for you." I guess it's the right office for you if you enjoy high pressure, constant harassing contact via EVERY form of communication without stopping and if you collect usernames and passwords. This office is the very definition and experience of why many people don't use their dental insurance.

Then they did all kinds of procedures that I didn't approve of - thousands of dollars of work was recommended. I told them I didn't approve any of these procedures done. I was given a credit and later had a tooth filled and a different tooth pulled. So the credit I had was used up. I went to a new Dentist this week they did X-rays etc and found two teeth that need to be removed and recommended another Dental Surgeon which I met with today. The charges for the two teeth is going to be less than I paid for one with McKinley. So in closing - the prices of McKinley is way to high and appear to only want to do expensive procedures. Very disappointing. I will say this the Dentist did do a good job as far as the removal of the tooth. Unfortunately the tooth she filled is now one of the teeth that will have to be pulled so I wasted a lot of money having it filled.

The actual office environment is very inviting & bright with books and artifacts to put you at ease. I found the music to be a bit loud in the waiting room but I'm sure if I said something they would have toned it down. DDS, Ray McKinley wrote a fascinating book; you can read it or purchase it while you are in the office.

Most ethical orthodontist I've ever met…read more  Dr. Ziaja and Rose have worked on my sister's smile and mine too. To say the least, we have perfect smiles because of him. I am well aware the most of the orthodontists in our area do partial jobs. Specifically, they slap braces on the 8 front teeth on the top and bottom and call it a day. However, this does not correct any of the underlying problems that can cause for serious future pain and costly surgeries. Other orthodontists care more about having an assembly line of clients they can align a few teeth, charge a considerable amount for their incomplete work, and then go to the next child or adult and continue the process. That is where Dr. Ziaja is different. He does things the right way. His ethics are a cornerstone of his operation and he ensures everything in your mouth is correct to ensure there is no trouble for your smile or for your jaw in the future. He cares about everything being right which is so important for something that you will show everyone you meet for the rest of your life, your smile.  Let us not forget that he graduated at the top of his class at the University of Michigan. This, I can only imagine, was no easy feat. He is very intelligent and hardworking. His dedication to details will ensure that he will successfully give you an outstanding smile. The smile he has given me has allowed me to get several high-profile jobs in the Metro-Detroit area because I had a terrific smile that lights up the room.  So if you are on the fence about which orthodontist to pick, remember the difference between cost and price. Price is the one-time payment you make to get the braces. You will only worry about it once. However, the cost can be so much more if you go to a different orthodontist than him because it adds up the time, headaches, and additional hidden costs of going to a place that cuts corners. So ask yourself, do I want a perfect smile (for myself or my child) done right the first time or do I want the insecurities of my smile or my child's smile to show through for the rest our life?  I can't thank Rose and Dr. Ziaja enough! I just hope they are still in business for my kids! :)
