So, I decided to stay with the firm and at the beginning it was not bad. However today I got a letter telling me that after more than 35 years they would no longer keep me as client because they could not handle the load in the area. As you might have noticed, after 35 years, I am loyal and believe in those I need to trust. I am about to retire which would require significant help from my "trusted" accountants. However, there is no loyalty with BCS and therefore no trust. They misled folks about the engagement and their desire to build relationships. They can't be trusted and there is no loyalty which puts its clients at risk. Find another accountant would be my advice before you are cut loose by the Johnson City elite. These are not the people you want watching your back when it counts. None of us need fair weather friends in our corner.

After the real estate bubble burst in the late 2000s, banks changed some of their financing rules…read more  The man who tried to bamboozle my mother into deeding him a right-of-way through her property should have known this, because when he went to get financing on his landlocked property, the bank told him he had to have a deeded right-of-way through my mother's property. He has permission to pass through her property, but this is not legally binding, so if permission were later denied and/or if he were to default, the bank would be stuck with a piece of property that is pretty worthless.  Instead of doing his research ahead of time and being wise enough not to purchase a land locked piece of property, he instead lied to my mother about the situation and later threatened her with legal action in an effort to scare her into deeding him a right-of-way. My mother was very upset and stressed about this, so I told her to no longer engage him in discussions on this matter, and to tell him to contact me instead. He tried many of the same things with me, ultimately saying that he would take my mom to court to force her to grant him right-of-way. So I decided it was time to see what the law had to say about all this. This is where Stephen Berndt comes in. He graciously made an appointment convenient for us, charged a very reasonable consultation fee, and spent well over an hour with us explaining chapter and verse everything we needed to know about what the law says about this kind of a situation. Right-of-way law is very complicated, especially in the mountains, but he went over various scenarios with us and helped us understand exactly what our position is on this matter. The sense of relief we felt was invaluable.  Essentially, the man would have to spend an enormous amount of money and time in an attempt to prove that he has legal right-of-way, and even then he would likely lose. I explained all this the next time he called, and also exposed some of his false claims based on some of my own research. The story ends this way: the man wound up having to borrow money from a wealthy friend to get the financing he needed.  And my mom and I have Stephen Berndt to thank for helping us resolve this.

I would not recommend using this office for real estate closings based on my experience…read more I was disappointed with both the fees charged and the overall level of service. In my opinion, the closing costs for a free-and-clear property were significantly higher than expected. Additionally, it has been nearly two weeks since the closing, and I have still not received my proceeds. Communication throughout the process was also lacking. I had difficulty getting timely updates, which made an already frustrating situation even more disappointing. As someone who values professionalism, transparency, and prompt service, I will not be using this attorney for future real estate transactions.

I was party to a real estate deal in which my counterparty was represented at closing by Reeves…read moreDiVenere Wright. This was plain vanilla contract with typical timing and process. Throughout, RDW were incredibly poor at communication, and their lack of communication introduced delays into the process that cost me more than $7,000 when all was said and done. I would not recommend using them. I was close to backing out of the deal after my own attorneys and other stakeholders having been jerked around by RDW throughout the process. Had I done so, this would have made their representation of their client very poor indeed, as their client had done nothing that I could determine to generate the delays. Details follow. My attorneys at a different firm in town provided all documentation to RDW throughout the process, and when it came time to close the deal had still not received the required final docs, nor any response by their attorneys to my attorneys' and other representatives' inquiries as to whether there would be a delay, where was the documentation, or what was going on. Sure enough, around 10:30 am that day that the deal could not be completed that day. By late afternoon we were told there would be a week's delay, with no clear reason given. We promptly updated our own documents and sent them back the same day, along with an appeal to complete things earlier if possible. The delay cost me more than $7,000 due to changes in the interest rate markets during the week-long delay. I was furious, but given lack of recourse to any alternative, completed things after the delay. Throughout the process my own attorneys were mystified at the lack of response from RDW despite repeated outreach by email, phone and text. Totally unprofessional, and totally unacceptable. There were so many problems with this process, nearly all of them avoidable. And those that may not have been avoidable were forgivable if we had been informed in a normal timeframe of potential delays, or if they would at least have answered my attorneys' requests for a call/email back. This firm needs to be more communicative and meet their stated timelines; give advance warning when they can't; or at least give reasons why not. I'm glad that we could finalize this deal but very displeased with the losses I incurred as a direct result of RDW's poor communication and the presumed incompetence that delayed the process (I can only attribute the delays to incompetence given that their communication about the process and reasons for delays was so poor).
