I recently popped into Acorn because I was on my way back from a job interview in a place I didn't really want to work (I hate call centres) and figured as I was already suited, booted and looking generally employable, I would have a go. I was told there was nothing I could do in the branch and I have to search for vacancis myself online. That's not a problem obviously but in my previous dealings with agencies, the point of it was always that they did the searching for me, and then they pocketed an hourly rate from my employment. So went to a different agency where they actually did earn their money and do the searching on my behalf.

A couple were more helpful than others and this one in particular was very good. I walked in and was immediately met by a consultant who spoke to me at length about what sort of work I was looking for. I was only looking for a part time position and she explained she didn't have any available at that point but she took my CV and told me she would keep me on file. I was really happy with the service I received. Admittedly I have not heard from her since but I am sure that if something does come up that I am right for she will give me a call.... I signed up and within 24 hours they found me a job in the sector I was looking for. There were loads of forms to fill out as expected but all were relatively painless. I spoke to a representative over the phone who was very helpful but did not work in this office. The dealing I had here were less than helpful. The people here didn't know whether I had to wear a suit or not or even what time I had to start at my new job. All in all the company as a whole found me a job really quickly but the people in this office weren't so helpful.

They sat me down, discussed my skill and qualifications and provided me with email address for me to send my CV to. I was just about to get the train home when I literally tripped over the sign for REED. I was tired and wanted to go home but something inside me pushed me through their doors. Nobody wanted to talk to me and nobody wanted to discuss what I was and wasn't looking for. All they said was go online and upload your CV. She finished the conversation by pretty much saying 'Don't call us, we'll call you.' I was so offended by how this woman treated me I didn't bother uploading my CV their website. There are pleanty of employment agencies in Cardiff I wont burden this one again.

They have tried to make it more user friendly recently but I still don't get it. To be honest I'm not sure how many of the jobs are genuine. I've experienced better.' doesn't ring true here because I've not. I find that this is a problem on most employment websites. All in all, I'd recommend going there in person. It must be better, right?
