We decided to go with Tamer Construction. I was a little nervous as I have heard stories about other contractors from friends and family that were less than spectacular. However, our experience with Tamer was spectacular. From the initial visit to the completion of the project, it was a seemless and hassle free experience. Tom the Project Manager kept us in the loop during the whole remodel. Kyle the Carpenter (Jack of all trades) did an excellent job and always cleaned up his work area. Tony the Tile Contractor did a wonderful job on the tile. It's like artwork. Needless to say I couldn't be happier with the price and the quality of work. I would highly recommend Tamer Construction to anyone looking for a remodel.

They worked with us to develop our plan, make our choices, and follow an explicit schedule to the date and time indicated. We were very impressed with all levels of professionalism. Every person who entered our home treated it and us with respect. They left areas clean & tidy and wore shoe covers when walking through areas needing to be worked in. They undertook a comprehensive renovation, completely transforming three major areas of our home. Thanks to their expertise, we now enjoy a new laundry room, two stunning bathrooms, and a bedroom with walkout access. Our home has been truly transformed, and we couldn't be happier. Fast-forward five years, and we had some plumbing issues. Devastated and worried, we called Anthony. They stand by their product! Within 30 minutes, they had someone fix everything at our home (even though we no longer had our warranty). I didn't know companies and people like this existed anymore. We are beyond grateful for the kindness, professionalism, and beautiful work that Anthony and his company have provided us.

My husband and I are planning to remodel our en suite bathroom. Slabaugh was the first company I…read morecontacted because I live nearby, and I had been following their work on Facebook. Although I was concerned that much of their work, though seemingly well done, was all very similar and somewhat generic (all gray and white), I know that's trendy now, and I figured I'd seek some reassurance that individual (and more creative) tastes could be accommodated. I spoke to the project manager who was responsive enough ... at first. He asked what I was looking for in a contractor and explained the process from design to installation. Everything sounded exactly like what we were looking for. And then ... I asked what the average cost for an en suite bath was. I had already done my research, which revealed that the average cost ranges from $18,000 to $25,000 (according to HomeAdvisor). Because of supply issues, I expected Slabaugh's answer to be a bit higher, but I certainly did not expect the project manager to quote a cost double that! He told me that I could expect to pay just under $60,000! I should also note that this estimate was provided without actually seeing the space. When I expressed surprise by this number, I was NOT provided with any explanation. I wasn't told that supply chain issues had increased the cost by 100% or that they used only top tier materials. There was no explanation about paying subcontractors or difficulty in finding qualified workers. Instead, I could almost hear the shrug over the phone as the project manager said, "Maybe we're not the right fit for you," a comment I found dismissive and condescending." Even so, I suggested that maybe my husband and I could stop by the showroom. I was thinking that perhaps I could get a more satisfactory explanation in person. That's when I found out that's it's only open four days a week until 5 and not at all on weekends. As someone who has a job, I explained that those times didn't work with my schedule. "People work," I said. "What do they do?" He silently shrugged again. "They take the time off." So, if you're looking to spend $20,000 more than you have to, if you want want to be dismissed and condescended to, if you want to adjust your schedule to the company you're hiring, then this might be the company for you. I, on the other hand, found a much more pleasant company with which to work, whose quote (after seeing the space) has come in at between $30,000 and $40,000. The company is still very local and has an amazing showroom. So far, they've been easy to work with and they treat me like I actually matter.

We had hardwood flooring installed and finished in two rooms and a hallway and ceramic tile installed in a large Great Room. I was never completely satisfied with the tile grout, but moving day was approaching and I let it be. The grout has since started to deteriorate and crumble away in a large area of the floor. The original contractor has left town and suggested that I contact Mike at Artisan Design Group, I was told that the two companies had a falling out, and that they were not willing to look at or assist me with. I am confidant that they were paid for the installation. I had no contract with Artisan Design Group, yet am disappointed that they will not stand behind their work. With that being said, I am writing this review because I feel that potential customers should be aware of a poor installation process involving the tile (I've been told that the tile is shifting from lack of being installed correctly).

I've had some bad experiences with contractors in the past, but this was by far the worst. It began…read morewhen during our initial meeting, he called me a "potty mouth" in my own home in front of my family. Despite that, I did not expect the frustration, sexism, and rudeness that continued while working with him. We hired him to create built in bookcases among several other contracting tasks. I offered to show him pictures of what we wanted, but he declined to look at them. When I asked him for a sketch, he told me it was a really simple design and he didn't need to do that. When my father called, he agreed (a pattern where he would not listen to me, a woman, but would listen to my father.) Well, eventually. He first needed to tell my father that the rest of what he'd been hired for would not "be worth it" for him to do if he didn't do the bookcase project for us. He also felt the need to say that he's been doing this job for 30 years and he does great work. I guess he couldn't stand his competency being questioned, but anyone who needs to say that and can't prove it by their actions and the way they treat people? Yeah. After that, an architect came out with Joseph to look at the space and work on a sketch. During that meeting, I asked again if he wanted to look at pictures of what I wanted, but he declined. I tried to explain verbally, but that also went poorly. For example, I asked if he could install a shelf above the television, and he told me that was impossible and would look terrible, which was baffling to me as this is pretty common. After trying for several minutes to explain, and receiving very dismissive and hostile comments from Joseph, the architect took pity on me and tried to explain to Joseph what I wanted. When the architect explained it, Joseph agreed that was probably possible and he guessed he could do it. After this meeting, he told me that he'd call in a few days to schedule a time for install. When I hadn't heard from him, my father again called and he promised he'd get the sketch to us within 10 days of the original meeting. After 11 days, I call him to ask what's going on and he tells me it'll be a few more days, but he can give us our deposit back. He's not very nice throughout this entire phone call. I call him the next day and ask for the deposit back because frankly I'm tired of the sexism and rudeness, and don't trust him to do good work for us anymore. He seems to have changed his tune as he now tells me he doesn't understand what the problem is since it's only 2 days after he said he would get the sketch for us, "But if that's what you want to do, fine," and hangs up on me. He calls a few days later to say the check is in the mail and to assure me that "I don't have a problem with giving this project up." He does not apologize or give any indication that he's caused us any hardship or treated us poorly, but no surprise there. During that call, he also mentions that he may need to charge for the sketch if it has already been started. Apparently, it is now finished (amazing how money can motivate), and charges us $150 for this, which is ridiculous given that every company I've been interviewing since has given this to us for free before we even hire them. Also, if he had the sketch already, why couldn't he just give it to us on time? Joseph called back a couple hours later, which I didn't answer because I was frankly tired of the verbal abuse. Joseph is associated with both HLF Construction and North Coast. I would never use him or any company associated with him given the abysmal way he treated me and my family during this process. Forget the $150 he wrongly charged us, I'd just like back those 4 weeks of my life where he did absolutely nothing and treated me horribly. Save yourself the money and the trouble- he and his companies are NOT WORTH IT!
