I went on a tour this morning with Alan and Justin and had an amazing time! We went out in the rain, which would deter many, but our guides were both ready to go and excited! They had so much knowledge to share about the environment, park, and wildlife. I also loved seeing the creek in the fall. We booked our tour with JK Adventure super last minute and are so grateful they had the availability! We booked two tandem kayaks for my husband, myself, and our two young children. All of the equipment was great quality and we felt safe and well-equipped for our 3 hour tour. Dustin and Alan were awesome from start to finish. They were both informative and serious, and also laid back with plenty of jokes. They were quick to point out all wildlife and made their best attempts to have everyone see it. They graciously took and shared photos of the whole group and even gave local recommendations for things to do/see/eat. Loved our morning kayak experience. Since we were driving up from Charleston, I called ahead and requested a time change. Due to the risk of afternoon thunderstorms, we were suggested a max 1 hr start time delay. This allowed us to make our tour on time and with sufficient time for us to explore without running into as many of the other operating tours. Alan was our tour guide and I greatly appreciated his enthusiasm throughout the tour. For someone that takes tours our multiple times a week, he was genuinely excited by the wildlife encounters that we had (heron, owls, turtles and spiders!). Very nice float in Congaree National Park. Water levels were really high. All equipment was well maintained and up to date. Guide had his hands full with a family that included 2 small children. He was very patient with them. Did not get to see many large older trees. read more

Our kayak trip with Dustin was one of the highlights of a National Park road trip including 7 parks. It was a pleasure to get off the beaten path and quietly float and paddle through Cedar Creek. It is a leisurely paddle of 4 miles round trip that takes up to 3 hours. There is much time to just float and take in the the park and the pleasant sounds of being within a natural setting. There is much to see and hear. The trees here are unlike any we have seen. We were treated to the call and response hootings of a pair of owls. We spotted fish jumping, birds, snakes and spiders - nothing to fear. Most impressive was a Bard owl swooping across Cedar Creek as we ended our trip. Congaree National Park is a treasure in this well-preserved and unusual flood plain. I highly recommend JK Adventures. They were very helpful on the phone getting reservations and giving us the details we needed. Our guide was awesome and met us right on time and helped our aging bodies in and out of the kayaks. No worries about getting wet. The price was less than another company I researched. My husband and I were lucky enough to be the only ones paddling with Dustin. We enjoyed his company and he was very knowledgeable and informative. read more

We arrived with the tour ready to go as the kayaks were already set out. Comfortable life preserves that fit all shapes and sizes! Justin has super powers for spotting wildlife. Stay near him to get a great lesson on the plants, animals, and life of the river. The kayaks are very stable too! My husband had no issues with balance in these. We were fortunate to do this trip as we planned last minute due to weather. Doug guided us for an afternoon trip in the Congaree NP. Our trip was early April, the weather was cool and the water level perfect! We saw tons of banded snakes, spring flowers, fisher spiders and heard many birds. This despite traveling with a very loud teenager! Doug was friendly, helpful and knowledgeable with all the questions we asked and he floated among our different family groups to keep everyone informed as we traveled. His genuine love of the area shines through. He recommended the boardwalk trail at the visitor center, so we checked that out the next day. What a fabulous way to explore the floodplain inland from the river! We would do this trip again in a heartbeat! The boats are new, the jackets clean and comfortable with lots of nice sized pockets and the paddles are strong and easy to grip. I can't thank Doug enough for helping me feel comfortable on the water; I successfully navigated under a fallen tree for the first time! read more

He made sure we were safe at all times but let us enjoy the river at our own pace. We followed a kingfisher and got a great close up of a curious watersnake. He also gave some great recommendations. We had two great kayaking trips while visiting Congaree National Park. One was in the morning on Cedar Creek in the Park - saw owl, great blue heron, banded snakes (non poisonous and non active!), Bald cyprus and Tupelo trees. It was a great way to explore the park. One evening we kayaked on the Congaree, starting in Columbia. The trip was a cool way to end the day. The river is wide and the sky was blue!. Cool breezes off the cold water from the Saluda River that feeds into the Congaree. Justin, Doug, and Bryce are great guides! read more

We went on a Saturday morning kayak tour thru Congree NP. We only had 4 people with us on the tour. I am an inexperienced in kayaking but had no problems. We had a great time paddling Cedar Creek in Congaree National Park over the 4th of July. The guides were full of interesting information, some good humor, and interesting conversations. We saw many, many snakes (none poisonous), lots of turtles, an owl, a great egret, a couple ibis, a barred owl, and an alligator. All around a fantastic experience! We were all novices and one of us was nervous to start but relaxed and enjoyed the trip.
