The 6th bridge over the Vltava river downstream of Praha! Essentially, this easy to stroll bridge connects Jiráskovo náměstí right bank of Staré Mesto and Left Bank district of Smichov.
The story of its construction commenced in 1929 by architect Vlastislav Hofman. Of concrete material, the five leading pillars are 4.6 meters wide lined with granite blocks. The bridge is 311 meters long and 21 m wide. Interestingly, the structure was put into operation in two stages. In 1931, the middle tram rails were laid, and then 8th October 1933, the rest.
As time progressed, the tramvaj was deemed and the rails subsequently were removed. BUT, in the end, as history and civil engineering would have it, the tramvaj came along anyway, and stayed for good, connecting both banks of the Vltava.
