CrossFit W950 - Pre-wod warmup

CrossFit W950

Etterbeek

I'm a crossfit fan and have tried a few different places here and there (see my review about…read moreCrossfit Glasgow). W950 is a great place to train and I would definitely recommend it. For those who don't know crossfit, it's a sport based on fitness optimisation (constantly varied functional movements performed at relatively high intensity, according to its founders). Crossit W950 perfectly incorporates these values and proposes great workouts with competent and friendly coaches. Rates are not the cheapest of all; probably a bit higher than a basic gym but cheaper than a fancy one (€950 for a year, unlimited). What I really like about the place is the community of people (when you're a regular you start knowing everyone), the spirit of going beyond your limits and this feeling of being part of a team, even if you usually don't work in teams (except Saturdays for the team workout). Also, girls, don't be scared of going, this place is packed with chicks.

Great box but alas I think it's a victim of its own success…read more I joined over 2 weeks ago and until today I have been unable to book a single Fundamentals class. All those classes are overbooked and the waiting lists are long. At this rate I will be taking one Crossfit class a month - something that kind of defeats the purpose of regular training. I have sent email to the box asking for their help and I have not received a reply. I will give it a few more days but if I cannot book another class for the next 2 weeks then I am going to go elsewhere.

Our classes are divided by level and are small enough to provide attention to detail. We work to make the exercises fit the student rather than vice versa. Exercises are selected and taught with attention to students' personal needs, activities and life style. Our intention is to teach with correct postural application to be sure movement is done precisely and harmoniously. All classes are conducted in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere. Crowded facilities, uncivil behaviours, dishonest practices and unresponsive management…read more The pros: the location for those who live or work nearby; a few excellent, dedicated and kind teachers The cons: below are points I raised with the management. I received no reply and so I thought to share what it really is like to be a member at this club. Just read and see for yourself. In addition, the staff plainly lied to me in order to avoid applying the 2-free-month promotional offer that I was entitled to claim. Finally, every email I've sent to the management remained unanswered. I am starting to wonder whether they actually exist. Issues with the facilities - Facilities regularly out of order: bathrooms, jacuzzi, sauna, hammam, showers - Inconsistent water temperature in the showers and low pressure most of the time - Paper towels, tissues and earbuds often missing - Shower gel dispensers in the showers broken or missing their lid, which is unhygienic - Shower floors not clean - Sauna door broken and not closing hermetically last time I checked - Floors in front of the bathrooms typically wet AND full of hairs - Overcrowded studios and changing rooms - While I am sure that most cleaning ladies do their very best, I regularly see one "doing her laundry", washing her own clothes in the sink. I saw another washing her feet in the sink as well... that is the same sink where I brush my teeth... cleaning ladies are sometimes chatting with members about beauty products while the floors are slippery or full of hair. - The zen studio floor is often dirty (big chunks of dust) and sweat is not wiped before the next class, particularly after TRX classes. Uncivil and disrespectful behaviours I've personally witnessed - A member routinely makes intimidating and disrespectful remarks to other members and cleaning staff. This is not a one-off behaviour but consistent bullying. This issue was raised at the reception but I never received any follow-up on whether it was dealt with or not (odds are, it wasn't) - new disrespectful and uncivil behaviours every day. A recent "novelty" was someone who thought it was a good idea to throw a big apple core inside one of the toilets (while there is a bin right next to it) - People leave dirty towels and soiled tissues behind them in the changing rooms with no consideration for others - People apparently stole the plastic containers in which earbuds are placed, requiring them to be taped to the wall to avoid them being stolen again ............... - A new member consistently has extremely strong body odours. I happened to be next to them during a yoga class where students are quite close to each other and I had to leave the class before the end because it was unbearable (and there was no available spot for me to move). On a different day the smell was the same. I am aware that this is beyond the club control, but just know that will be taking classes with people with no basic hygiene. - People leave the hammam and leave the door open behind them - People exiting the showers and leaving the water running ........ - People having long phone conversations in the changing rooms (or even in the toilets, while people are waiting in line outside) Club rules that are not respected - People typically arrive late in the collective classes - from 5 to even 15 minutes late, disrupting the class - I've seen people leave their mats and pillows behind them in the zen studio even though there is another class right after and people are coming in - Almost everyone brings their phone in the zen studio and do not keep these phones on silent - it is not unusual that phones start ringing, including in yoga classes - People bring their shoes into the zen studio even if it's not allowed and insist on keeping them next to their mats (thank you for the smell!).
