Talked to the owners, who are just the people you want there to be in the world. They gave us a little sample of hot corned beef while we waited for the magic. Melt in your mouth deckle, after battling chewy or tough fat from other places, felt like my long-lost love coming home from the sea. We ate the sandwich in the car and talked about how great it was to have a beloved food item that was just perfection, like knowing there was something out there in the world that would always make you happy. 10/10, no notes. The pickles plucked on the strings of my heart, thinking about the old pickle barrels from The Milk Pail and other places long gone. "Next time I see you I'll be looking at you." We'll be back soon.

As someone who is not a fan of pastrami or corned beef , I went in thinking I was going to do a Turkey breast sandwich. Nope! The owner encouraged me to taste their corned beef and it was love at first bite. My friend and I split a sandwich and it was truly Chefs kiss! The service was top tier and warmth and friendliness and they make you feel like you've stopped in to visit with family for a bite.

Starting with the salads...for around $12...you pick from an excellent selection of fresh ingredients and they toss it up. You can have them chop it as well. Their dressings are custom made and the ginger dressing, in particular, is delightful. The sandwiches...also about $12...are large and also made to order. (If you order a Panini expect a wait of around 15 minutes.) Their bakery goods are to die for! Yes, you could run around the corner to Gerhards but you'll pay much less here at Foodstuffs for a larger, better dessert (and maybe even fresher). It's not all perfect, however. We recently took home one of their frozen Shepards Pies and while the crust was great and it had plenty of meat filling there was way, way too much salt in the recipe. Also, I've had soup here a few times and it was good, but not great. As an aside, the service here is definitely courteous but can be slightly standoffish at times so don't expect the kind of super friendly service you may experience elsewhere in Lake Forest.

As soon as we walked in, we were immediately taken cared of. It was busy but the ambiance was bright, busy and cheerful. We came in during breakfast/lunch, brunch time. My fiance ordered a chicken salad sandwich with potato salad while I ordered a corned beef sandwich and potato salad. The lady who took our order was so sweet and didn't rush us to order which was nice considering how busy they were. My fiance also ordered an iced caramel macchiato while I ordered a hot chai tea latte. We were dining in so we were immediately seated after placing order. Please note that this place is not so big but they always manage to find seating for their patrons which is great. Our drinks came in no time and my fiance said his macchiato was wonderful, not too overpowering yet not too sweet either, it was just right and a great pick me up, especially for a busy morning. My chai tea latte was also excellent, it wasn't too sweet or decadent but perfectly creamy and delicious. When our food came, we were IN LOVE. My fiancé couldn't stop raving about their chicken salad sandwich saying it was a really good sandwich. He said the chicken was tender and there wasn't too much mayo to the point that it would be over powering. Also, the potato salad was something he also loved which I agreed with as well. There were nice big chunks of potatoes in there and again, it wasn't overpowered by mayo. The seasoning was good and it accompanied the sandwiches perfectly. My corn beef sandwich was lovely!! I had all the fixings on it with Swiss cheese and it was great. Piled high with corn beef which was succulent and nicely spiced on wheat bread. I'm normally a hot sammie type of girl but this sandwich was *chefs kiss*. Meat was tender and the other ingredients were fresh. I definitely would return to get this again! Overall, great meal and we will continue to come back.
