I saw Dr.Foley in May of this year to do a procedure on me. Everything she told me what could possibly happen, didn't. In fact the procedure went so well I wasn't sure it was even done. She made it easier than going to the dentist for a teeth cleaning. Her sense of caring made me feel so relaxed. There really aren't enough stars for Dr. Foley. We won't be finding more doctors like this now or in the future. How lucky I was and thanks to Dr. Honneger (another great one) I was able to be so fortunate.....to have both of these physicians in a lifetime. Sonja Farer read more

Dr Foley was the worst for me. I had a missed miscarriage, and she did a D&C to complete it. However, she did not get it all. She never advised me that this could be a possibility. And when I was having troubling symptoms after the procedure, she was dismissive and defensive. When I asked questions about a plan b if her plan a didn't work (and it didn't work bc she wasn't clued in that there was still pregnancy left inside me), she got snippy and told me I should just trust her and she knows what she is doing. I left the practice after that. I was left for two months after the botched D&C in a disbelieved state of semi-pregnancy. It was awful and resulted in pain, infection, extended processing of grief, and lasting trauma. read more

Dr. Foley has been one of my favorite doctors I have gone to see. I started seeing her long before I wanted to get pregnant and always had pleasant interactions with her. When my husband and I struggled to get pregnant, she ran all the standard bloodwork for me and eventually I got referred to a RE. When I finally did get pregnant, I had become much more holistic in my journey and Dr. Foley never once pushed or made me feel less for declining "standard" pregnancy care. She was a breathe of fresh air in that office. A few weeks before my due date, I decided to do a home birth and Dr. Foley was far more supportive than I would have imagined. If you are looking for a Dr. who is compassionate and non-judgmental, she is the right person for you. read more

Dr Foley was my doctor during my pregnancy with my second child. She recognized my hyperemisis and got me treatment. I will always be grateful for her good care during a horrible pregnancy which, thanks to her, resulted in a healthy baby. In addition to being great at her job she is also warm and funny and kind. read more

Dr. Foley is a wonderful physician if you are somehow actually able to get in to see her. I had an urgent issue which required prompt attention and was unable to get in to see Dr. Foley or any of her colleagues for a same-day appointment. There were slots available but the nurse I spoke to told me that my issue would take longer than the 10 minutes allotted for those appointments and would not book me. She did, however, feel it was urgent enough to refer to me to urgent care. When I went to the urgent care, I was diagnosed and referred back to my gynecologist. I asked for any appointments at any time with any provider in 2-3 weeks (further in the future than the physician at urgent care thought was prudent but thems the breaks). I was told that Dr. Foley has no availability for the next 2 months, and the next appointment I could get to see anyone at all would be one month away. Previously I have had to change doctors within this same practice because there were just no appointments available within a reasonable amount of time. Not for annual exams, not for routine procedures, and certainly not for urgent issues which require attention from a specialist. Based on the response that I did receive for an appointment request, it seems like the expectation is that I will hang in there for a month to get in and in the meantime blow up the advice nurses' phones; or go to the emergency room if it gets bad enough. Again, Dr. Foley is fantastic. Actually getting in to see her is another matter entirely. read more

Since I've never had a baby, I can only review the "gyn" part of ob/gyn. Dr. Foley and staff are great! They are kind, considerate, and provide useful information. Now, I know that most women dread the annual exam. I am no different, in that regard. But if you must go, it's nice to have someone who will take time to listen to your questions and give helpful and caring answers. She has an office in Orinda, too. read more

Dr. Foley is the ob/gyn for both my wife and myself. Dr. Foley did a great job with my wife when she was carrying our son and then when I got pregnant, she was similarly outstanding. (Needless to say, she has no problem with lesbians!) When it turned out that there was a severe problem with the fetus when I was pregnant, Dr. Foley (and her excellent staff) moved mountains to call me right away, get me scheduled for surgery within a day (a *huge* relief to not have to wait so we could get on with the grieving). Not only that, but during the follow-up appointment two weeks later, Dr. Foley was compassionate and genuinely concerned with my welfare. She has great credentials, clearly knows her field very well, and has no trouble answering questions and is very clear (but not at all condescending) with her answers. I can't recommend her enough. Her practice is popular, so it can be hard to get an appointment now and then, but it is *totally* worth the wait. read more

Jill Foley is FANTASTIC. I only wish she were a GP! I went to her for a colposcopy after she was recommended by both of my two favourite healthcare providers at Alameda Family Physicians, Karen Klein and Nancy Shaw. Dr Foley was kind, funny, and compassionate. I was surprised and impressed by the amount of time she spent with me. If I were trying to conceive, or looking for an OB-GYN for a pregnancy, I can hardly imagine someone who would inspire trust in me more. One thing I loved about her was that she never talked down to me, even when I frankly admitted total ignorance of certain things (I've had terrible experiences with that with other doctors. I had one [male, naturally] doctor tell me, when I was septic from appendicitis, that my severe abdominal pain and nausea were simply due to menstrual cramps; I was told to go home and take a midol, despite the fact my organs were on the brink of shutting down. I nearly died because some jerk decided his medical schooling trumped my experience and familiarity as a woman with menstrual cramps). read more

I have gone to Jill (and thus the practice) for years and had two babies delivered by them. Of course, when you are pregnant they know it is a bit of a crap shoot as to who will be on call while you are in labor/giving birth so they have you see all of the doctors. I liked some doctors more than others, as will everyone. My favorites at the practice (now part of Sutter East Bay Medical Foundation) are Jill Foley and Angelyn Thomas. I noticed that when they were taken over by Sutter that they got busier, and I started to have problems getting appointments and with tests being lost in the shuffle. From every article I've read and everything I've heard from nurses and doctors, this is what happens when Sutter gets involved with anything. They squeeze every penny out that they can, and everyone suffers for it. Please don't blame Jill or others from the group for Sutter's issues. read more

Dr. Foley and everyone else in the practice whom I've met are all very warm, highly competent, patient (not easy with me, let me tell you, I ask a lot of questions) and they always give you their full attention. Quality of care from that perspective is great. Not so much from the office staff. Like others who've posted here, we've had a hard time getting a call back from their scheduler. After we miscarried last year, they still called us back a few days later about scheduling an appointment. Ouch. We're pregnant again but are switching to a different practice. We love Dr. Foley but aren't thrilled about dealing with the hassles. read more

I love Dr. Foley. A friend recommended her to me years ago, and I've been so pleased with her care. She was pretty busy when I was pregnant with my first child, so at that time I primarily saw another MD from her office. He was great, and I was very happy with the experience. But when he left the practice I made sure I got Dr. Foley, and I have to say she's even better. She's friendly, intelligent, approachable, knowledgable, very reasonable, kind, patient, but direct when its appropriate. Case in point, she cared for me during my second pregnancy, and (Thank God!) was on call the night I had my second child. She is awesome -- kept me so focused and made that experience light years better than it would have been with out her. I so wish she'd been there when I had my first baby. I can't recommend her enough. She also had a child (or children?) of her own not too long ago, so she knows of what she speaks, which is always nice. read more

I came in to Sutter East Bay Obstetrics with complaints about vulvodynia at the beginning of my third trimester. The first OB I saw about my condition, nurse practitioner Modell on 2/2/16, dismissed my concerns and did not even examine me thoroughly to make a proper diagnosis. I suspected vulvar varicosities and had to make an extra appointment on 2/8 to try to find out what was going on. Dr. Honeggar saw me and was able to confirm my suspicions, but could not recommend any treatments other than a support belt and Tylenol. I requested phlebotonics, which I hard read about in a French research paper, but she could not help me with this. Dr. Honeggar recommended that I see Dr. Foley, who would know more about my condition, so I made this request. Dr. Foley took special time out of her busy schedule to see me on 2/24. I got some additional recommendations for treating my condition and more compassionate care than I had previously received. Importantly, she checked my veins for thrombosis. Throughout this ordeal, Dr. Foley is one of the few OBs who showed empathy for my condition. While the other OBs often dismissed my pain as mere "discomfort," she understood the severity of it, and helped me with additional pain management options and prescribed an early epidural for my labor and delivery. read more

Dr. Foley had been my gyno for four years. In May of this year it was discovered that I had two dermoid ovarian cysts. Dr. Foley was quick to call me to share the results of my tests so I would know that this was what was wrong, however I never heard from her again. She then wanted to do laparoscopic surgery which is a minimally invasive technique. I tried scheduling the surgery with her surgery scheduler and things quickly went down hill. The scheduler wouldn't call me back when she said she would, a few days would go by at a time, and on more than one occassion I told her I already had a trip planned so I had to make sure I could fly so soon after the date she tried to schedule for me. When she finally realized I could not fly 5 days after surgery, she then was trying to reschedule me. At that point, I decided it was time to get a second opinion on this surgery. I went to a different doctor who stated that due to the size of my cysts that a full laparotomy was needed and it was not recommended to do laparascopic surgery. I went with him for the surgery and could not have been any happier with the results. If you need a good doctor then go to Dr. Weinstein in Walnut Creek. His staff is much friendlier, more professional, and acts with a sense of urgency which is lacking at Dr. Foley's Berkeley location. He came to see me three times a day when I was in the hospital and really takes the time to make sure you are treated well and being taken care of. I still would recommend seeing Carol which is the nurse practicioner at the Berkeley office as she is great and makes time for you. read more

If this was a rating of Dr. Foley herself, I'd give her five-plus stars. She is great! She delivered our first child and I always liked her when I went to appointments. However - the big downside - is that she is also very inaccessible, much like many of the OBGYNs that people in the East Bay area like. She shares a practice with what seems to be 10 other doctors. This was an issue during the delivery and postpartum as I had to see a slew of people whom I had never met before. Most of my time was spent with a doctor I really wasn't crazy about - after one hour of labor and one attempt at pushing, she insisted that I needed a C-section even though the baby was fine and - duh - it was my first baby so of course I wasn't going to do the best push right off the bat. I was VERY fortunate that Dr. Foley was on call the next morning and she delivered the baby without a C-section in just an hour. She coached me on ways to push and positions, was really supportive even though I'd clearly been in labor for a while. Now that I'm pregnant again, I've been trying for three days to make an appointment just to see her, and I've been left on hold for over 10 minutes each time. I don't have any doubt that I'll see her again (and anyway I've got little choice - the other three women OB's that are highly recommended aren't taking anyone new even though I'm still in my first trimester), and I don't blame her staff since they've always seemed nice and helpful. But the practice clearly cuts a lot of corners (probably because they can in this market and because of how health ins works these days), causing patient frustration. Just comes with the territory of living in the East Bay, I suppose. read more

I really liked Dr. Foley but she always seems rushed but I never had to wait long for my appointments. I didn't mind the rushed, short appointments because this was my second pregnancy and I didn't have many questions early on. What I didn't like is all the appointment that had to be rescheduled. Three of my seven early appointments were canceled and rescheduled. Some had to be scheduled with another doctor or a nurse practitioner. This didn't really bother me. But in the past 3 weeks I've had 4 appointments canceled. Since I have appointments every 1-3 weeks now, it's been really hard to get an appointment with Dr. Foley and I have more questions now. I am so frustrated and disappointed. I only have ~6 weeks left and really don't want to change doctors now. I wish I would have selected a doctor that was more available. read more

Dr. Foley actually saved my life. I went to see her after finding a bit of a "blush" on my toilet paper. My periods had stopped when I went through chemo for breast cancer 5 years previously. Dr. Foley did an exam and a biopsy which she processed in her office. It came back negative so she did another one and sent it off for processing. It also came back negative. During a follow-up appointment, Dr. Foley suggested we do a hysterectomy as she was worried about my previous cancer. My wife and I trusted her so we elected to have the procedure. During the operation, they found two separate cancers - uterine and fallopian cancers. They sent a slide to Stanford to verify they were 2 separate cancers and it was confirmed. I then underwent chemo and recovered and was cancer free for 14 years when I was found to have another separate breast cancer. If Dr. Jill Foley had not done the hysterectomy, my cancers would have festered and grown and may have taken my life. She listened to her gut and went ahead with the hysterectomy which found the cancers. I have thanked her many times for saving my life upon which she always acted a bit embarrassed but i give her full credit. Many doctors would have taken the test results at face value and declared me cancer free. They would have been wrong. Thanks, Dr. Foley! read more

I really treasure Dr. Foley. I've been going to her for many years. She's friendly, patient, thorough, and very up-to-date on her medical information. She answers all my questions completely, complies with all my quirlky requests, and then takes a few minutes to share something about herself and her family. She's as good as they get! I otta know. I'm an older gal and have had a fair number of OB's in my life to compare her to. I would say that the only problem with this medical practice, like so many others these days, is that the corporation employing Dr. Foley walls off the docs from patients. The phone receptionists discourage leaving messages for the physician and you really have to persist to get them to do this, so you receive a call back from your own doc. I doubt Dr. Foley or her collegues have much control over this. It's symptomatic of corporate medicine, and a real pity. But don't let this stop you from using Dr. Foley. She's a gem! BTW, I believe this practice has moved, so check the address if you call for an appointment. read more

Dr. foley is awesome! Personable, smart, easy going. Great ob/gyn.

I saw Dr. Foley during the early months of my first pregnancy. She seemed friendly, but the office staff was incredibly rude and uneducated on the processes they were charged with handling...such as counseling on testing options, etc. They delivered improper information, and were unable to answer the most basic questions. I was received the results (and the bill for) lab tests that were not mine, for blood and other tissue she didn't take from me. She told me that genetic tests came back fine, only to find out from the lab that did my amnio that the first lab hadn't received enough blood to perform the tests that Dr Foley told me...while looking at my chart...were fine. I switched to an amazing, caring, and attentive doctor in a different practice. My son was born with a congenital birth defect and I wake up at night wondering if his pain and suffering could have been mitigated, or avoided all together if I had received competant pre-natal care. It's not worth the hassle or risk to deal with her or her office staff. read more

Doctor visits are never fun, however, Dr. Foley is seriously FANTASTIC! From the moment our appointment started, she ensured that i felt comfortable and that all my questions were answered. She was also very thorough and made sure that i was aware of what procedures needed to be done and why. Aside from her medical knowledge, her bedside manner is excellent. She was kind and funny, and it was very easy to discuss serious matters with her. I highly recommend her for anyone that is currently looking for a OB-GYN, or even if you are looking to switch, you wont regret it! read more

Dr. Foley has been my ob/gyn for four years. She is personable, kind, patient and direct which I really appreciate. Dr. Foley cared for me during both of pregnancies which were not complicated but also not fun. I was extremely sick for the first five months of my second pregnancy and Dr. Foley listened to me and made sure I go the care I needed to stay healthy and hydrated. Dr. Foley was also in the delivery room for my second baby and my husband and I were so thankful. She was supportive and compassionate but kept us all focused on the goal - a healthy baby. I trust Dr. Foley completely and recommend her highly. read more

I find Dr. Foley to be grounded, professional, and personable. She is my OB and delivered my son in December 2012. I highly recommend her. She is a quick wit and very busy, but when I ask her a question (and she creates an atmosphere where I have felt I can ask anything), she will take the time to slow down and address any concern. She is someone that you can tell loves her work and that makes a huge difference in how she is with her patients. She is excellent. read more

I am the patient of Dr. Honegger. However just by chance, once when Dr. Honegger wasn't available, my medical needs were taken care by Carol Tracy. That was many years ago. I became Dr. Foley's patient when my husband and I began trying to get pregnant. I thought she was fantastic throughout my pregnancy and recommended her to many friends. I had no problems reaching her or getting appointments with her during my pregnancy and I rarely had to wait to be seen. Things went way downhill from there....... When going in for my post-partum check-up, IUD placement and annual exam I found the phone system and reception staff to have become a mess. Suddenly things were disorganized and it seemed like nobody knew what they were doing. Then when my daughter was about 6 months old I began having problems sleeping. I was also tearful and anxious - within a month or so it became clear that I had a form of post-partum depression. At first Dr. Foley was helpful - she recommended a fabulous MFT and started me on a low dose of an antidepressant. Unfortunately over the course of a couple of weeks my situation got much much worse. My husband and I sought her advice and assistance in finding a psychiatrist (despite our best efforts and excellent health insurance we couldn't get anyone to see me until the following month!). Dr. Foley was terribly rude and unhelpful - as if she felt this wasn't her problem. I did eventually get connected with a good psychiatrist and a few months later tried to contact Dr. Foley for her input regarding lab work (at my psychiatrist's request). It took three phone calls from me and one from my doctor (over the course of four weeks) to get in touch with Dr. Foley. When I did speak with her she was downright mean to me! She insisted that she really couldn't help us! So, needless to say I've switched OBs. I feel badly that someone with such incredibly expertise around pregnancy and birth can't support her patients through what is likely to be the biggest transition of their lives. I've heard a similar story to my own from a friend that is also a patient of Dr. Foley's so I know that (unfortunately) my bad experience wasn't just a fluke. read more

Everything was great until I got the bill. $391 for an office visit and this didn't include the lab fees.. Maybe I'm behind the times? Maybe it'll be less if I go for the annual stuff with a NP or PA in a Family Practice office. Ask before committing. Learned a lesson. read more

Dr. Foley is my OB, I'm 7 months pregnant and it took two months to get on her schedule. Our coveted appt is on Friday and her office just called to say that there was a "scheduling conflict" and so my appt is cancelled. I have not seen a doctor in 2 months due to the last appt with nurse practitioner Cannon - she did not show for a full 30 minutes and I had to leave to pick up my son from childcare. I've also gotten a bill for $487 from their office because their billing department totally screwed up - my insurance company said their billing me was even in breach of their contract as it looked as though their were soliciting double payment. It's probably too late for me to change providers but I do not recommend this place, just Yelp the review for Sutter Health East Bay Medical Foundation and you'll get more into that I wish I would have read. read more

I saw Dr. Foley today for my annual exam. First, her assistant, Sheree (spelling is off I'm sure), was very pleasant and willing to accommodate my germaphobia by cleaning everything and making sure I saw that she made sure all items which may touch me were clean and new. Then, Dr. Foley herself was very pleasant and answered my questions. One can tell she is very busy (I had to wait 3 months to get an appointment), so she doesn't have too much time to spend with one patient, but she really listened and was very efficient. She also was very accommodating of my germaphobia. read more

I had the delivery of my first baby with Dr. Jill Foley, she was on call that night and was not my first choice. She was so terrible, unfriendly and unengaged such I could not believe my bad luck that night. The only times that she showed on my delivery room was to suggest what the next intervention she wanted to perform. During the night I had so much pressure from her such I was dreading her stopping by. Finally a very old nurse at Alta Bates stop by for 10 minutes and gave me the courage to have my healthy baby in he most natural way, while Dr. Foley was not there and came after the baby was delivered. I would not recommend her as ob/gyn especially for baby delivery. read more

I like Dr. Foley -- that is a good picture of her that pops up. She is competent and smart and helpful. The office is a mess: it's usually steaming hot, and they run behind and can't find your forms, give you forms, etc. I think that Dr. Foley could easily make her office a 5 star experience for everyone by dealing with her front office staff (training for some, letting go for others)..... read more
