JUST A SHAM!
I don't normally go to Jiffy Lube for my car maintenance, but I did not want to wait to have to schedule an appointment at my mechanic to have my car inspected. Jiffy Lube was recommended to me by my dad, so I figured it was a good place to go. Since I had not gone there before, and the parking lot was non-existent due to the fact that they share a lot with the Olive Garden next door, I parked at OG and decided to go in and ask how to check in. There were a few other people waiting already when I got there, and I had no problem waiting my turn for one of the employees to get a free minute to assist me. I got there at 2:30 PM EST, and over an hour later one of the employees finally came back into the waiting area and asked if I had been assisted yet. Everyone was running around and so busy that I was not able to flag anyone down the entire time I was sitting there. I was nice and simply told her that I was still waiting for someone to tell me where I needed to bring my car, and how to check my car in for an inspection. She took my keys and said they would get me taken care of right away. I continued sitting there for another 35 minutes. While I was waiting, multiple employees came out to talk to me about my car. One employee came out to ask for my registration because it was not in my car. It turns out I had forgotten it, so I offered to go back home and grab it and then come back. I sat there waiting for my keys when another employee came out. He asked me what kind of oil I wanted them to use in my car, and if I wanted them to rotate my tires and change my air filters. I told the guy that I did not need the extra work done because those are things my dad can do for me. So he entered the oil selection and gave me a total of $83, then goes back to my car. He comes back a few minutes later and asks me if I just wanted my oil changed, or if I wanted my car inspected too. He sounded irritated by this because they had already changed my oil. I specifically told each person that I spoke with that I ONLY WANTED AN INSPECTION. Not an oil change. He proceeds to tell me that he will need to adjust my total, as I will now owe closer to $160 to include the inspection. He brings me my keys back, takes my debit card for the $83, and tells me to come back for the inspection. When my husband called to complain, they tried telling him that they would not do work on my car without confirming it with me first. Let me just say, asking what kind of oil I want in my car DOES NOT specify in any way that they had already done an oil change THAT I NEVER EVEN ASKED FOR. No one once ever asked me if I wanted an oil change. MEANWHILE, there is another customer sitting next to me in the waiting area who was having the exact same issue. He came in for an inspection, never told them that he wanted an oil change, but they changed his oil anyways. He turned to me and asked if they had done the same thing to me as they did him, I nodded my head embarrassed... I hate feeling that just because I am a young woman that mechanics can attempt to take advantage of my lack of knowledge of a vehicle. Of all the employees that spoke with me, none of them relayed the message of what I actually needed to be done, then forced me to pay for services that I did not even want in the first place. I didn't end up leaving with my car until 4:00 PM EST. I don't know if this applies to all Jiffy Lube's, but the one on the Golden Strip in Williamsport is by far the biggest sham I've ever seen. read more
