Bless them, they've got just about everything you could possibly imagine in this store!…read more Imagine taking the entire contents of B&Q, Wilkos and Poundstretcher and cramming it all into one little shop, and you've got Brian's! It's a real Alladin's cave selling absolutely everything you could ever need, and quite a lot that you could probably live without as well! Staff are friendly and some of the time it appears that they look just as lost as the customers in there! On the whole, it is a really useful little place to have in the town. A Wilkinsons opened recently which I think have taken a lot of business away from Brian's which is a shame as they're a bit of a Brigg institution, but hopefully they'll survive and continue to give the good service they have done for years.
My view is - If you cant get it in Bryan's you won't get it anywhere. The staff are extremely…read morehelpful and you rarely have to wait to be served however busy they might be

It's not far from Homebase or the town centre, so they've certainly got competition, but somehow they have got their own niche market, and good on them! I called in while passing just looking for some hooks. It's a bit of an emporium inside, but just ask and they'll point you straight to what you're looking for. It wasn't expensive either, which is always a bonusin fact it was probably quite a lot cheaper than if I'd carried on as planned to Homebase! Small but welcoming, cluttered but lovely. Give them a try!

Greenside Hardware
Great little shop, recently taken over by a very friendly couple, Richard and Pauline - Pauline is…read moreinto art and crafts, so among the nails and hammers, key cutting etc you will find highly decorated terracotta plant pots with little animals on them - really pretty! Richard is great when it comes to knowing what you need for particular jobs - especially if you are female and don't actually know what you need like me! He is also pretty good at cutting keys to get you back into your house when you lose your keys,,,,ahem! They sell nails, hammers, plumbing supplies, glue, gardening gloves, Dyson vacuums (?) mops an buckets etc - all the usual hardware stuff - however it is like a shop of little treasures as the limited floor and wall space is absolutely packed with interesting things - well to me they are interesting anyway - but then again my husband says that because i'm only ' a girl'!

It is worth looking in Gee Jays before buying anything from B&Q or similar places. They have stock clearance items and regular stock as well. The stock varies widely and is regularly updated to accommodate seasonal stock. If you are doing a spot of DIY I imagine you can get everything from here, as they have paint, brushes and cleaning equipment. The main downsides to this shop are: 1) Parking, there are a few spaces on the road outside, but the shop is a 5 min walk out of town; 2) Accessibilty with wheelchair, pram or similar. I find it hard to navigate a pram around, so have to make arrangements to go there on my own.

Prestwich Hardware is so helpful for DIY…read moreprojects, odd jobs around the house and bits and bobs that might be so tiny and inexpensive but make the difference between harmonious home and falling apart. The service from the chap (definitely the right word) is so helpful especially if you do the whole damsel in distress thing - its NOT an act I really do have no clue. But I'm an independent woman and at the moment its just me and my mum in our house. No men to do all these kind of jobs. So we have our own little tool box now - yes some of them have flowers on and were a present. But still. They can help you with the parts themselves, tools, how to do it, common pitfalls, what to do afterwards. Lifesavers but they don't have the range that say BnQ have as its a pretty small shop.
