Three weeks ago I had to have all of my upper teeth extracted as well as several lower teeth. I was just terrified at the prospect! However, Dr. Fa & his wonderful staff assured me that I would be comfortable throughout the procedure. I sat down in the very comfortable chair at 10:30 am and when Dr. Fa told me that he was all done (at approx. 11:15), I just couldn't believe it! I felt absolutely no pain and had absolutely no idea that all the teeth had, in fact, been extracted! I then rushed home, (expecting the pain to finally kick in after the anesthetic wore off) and took 2 Tylenol. 6 hours later, still no pain and I was able to sleep through the night. Next day...no pain...and 3 weeks later, I'm still pain free...and I probably didn't even need those 2 Tylenol! Thank you, Dr. Fa - I think you're a miracle worker! My teenage son needed to have some work done and we were referred to another oral surgeon in a neighboring town. After meeting with the referred surgeon my son instantly declared he refused to go back. He got a bad feeling about the place. Long story, short (ish) We researched and scheduled a consult with Dr. Fa. He was so upbeat and positive, that it instantly cured my son's nerves and he was no longer fearful of getting the procedure done. My son's procedure went so very well and about a year later we took our other son to Dr. Fa for a similar issue. Dr. Fa was amazing with both my boys and their recoveries went well. Highly recommend. I created this yelp account to review this office specifically. I've had a great deal of good, bad, ugly and awful experiences in terms of customer service. I have NEVER in my 60+ years been so turned off by any business let alone a health "care" facility. As a favor, I drove my 19 year old neighbor to his consultation for a dental implant to this office. Gosh, I wish he would have checked their reviews prior to choosing this office. Just look at their ABUNDANT low star reviews regarding their rude office staff. It is very telling. If you don't take my word for it, check out the others. I was waiting in my car for my neighbor during his consultation but it was over 90 degrees outside so I decided to wait inside their waiting room. It was very clear the front office staff didn't know I was waiting in their waiting room (not sure how, it is similar to a 10 x 10 holding cell) two gals in the front a older brunette lady and a older blond gal, didn't catch names. I could NOT believe the extent of their locker room talk. It ranged from politics (obvious a far right crowd) to them being turned off and annoyed by a "rude" pregnant employee, stating "I can't stand her attitude, I can only tolerate her in small doses". It was by FAR the most uncomfortable experience for me, I wanted them to notice me sitting in the waiting room so they can simply feel ashamed but they were very unaware of their surroundings. I left with the most filthy taste in my mouth curious if the Drs at this facility are aware of the amount of unprofessionalism at their office. This is what takes the cake though, 8 weeks later they sent my neighbor a COLLECTION LETTER FOR TWELVE DOLLARS!!!!!! He even had his surgery scheduled during his next college school break, so he had his consultation (30 mins at best), scheduled his surgery that exceeded FOUR THOUSAND DOLLARS (to be paid in full) and instead of either writing the $12 off (his insurance paid 90% from what he told me) or holding off to collect when he comes back for his surgery they THREATENED to send him to collections over pennies. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE do your research prior to coming here, explore the consensus of these reviews. If the surgeon is average or even great, does that matter when your money and finances are in the hands of snakes. Does this doctor even read recent reviews? Does he know they're threatening patients with collections over pennies!? Does he even know the defacement his office staff is causing. I've seen enough and I will invariably make it my mission for none of my friends and family to ever come here. Edit: I made an error and I meant to leave this review for his Brentwood location. Now that I've read the reviews for both their Antioch and Brentwood locations it appears their front office staff is atrocious at both. read more

The clinic was very nice and clean,modern interiors looked very new. reception area was great and had water and coffee for patients. they have 2 ladies working at the front desk and the brunette one was more helpful and nicer and helped me to find my missing appointment which the other lady just kept on insisting that she couldnt find my appointment. then the clinic staff were nice as well as Dr. Fa explained everything regarding the procedure. Dr. Fa is a really nice and upbeat doctor. anyway i just had my surgery done all 4 of my wisdom tooth. it was on time and everything went well. it just took an hour and half and then i was out on my way home. read more

Had a large skin tag removed from the inside of my lower lip that had been there for years on a Friday. It was removed and stitches put in at about noon. By 6:00pm the stitches had come out. Upon calling the service, nobody from that office was willing to put the stitches back in. Their exact words were, you shouldn't need the stitches unless it is bleeding badly. So I had to let an open wound in my mouth heal without any stitches. and by the way, a wound does not heal the same without stitches to close the skin up. so why put them in in the first place and charge me a ridiculous amount for a procedure that supposedly required stitches. I would never ever use this group again. If you use them and have an issue, plan on just dealing with it yourself. They are a one and done group. read more

My wife has been a patient of Dr Fa for more than 5 years and has had extensive difficult procedures performed by him. He is an excellent Doctor who always thoroughly explains each procedure prior to surgery so the patient always know what to expect. He is also a compassionate person who really cares about his patients. His office staff is also excellent and great to work with including providing reasonable payment plans to help extended time for payment. I would be highly suspicious of any review that does not rate them very highly as we have always had excellent results working with he and his staff on multiple procedures! I sent my son to see him for consult alone then and he had some very positive vibes and positive things to say about Dr Fa. Dr Fa called that evening and explained his plans I felt confident and safe the telephone conversation ended with his staff will call me to schedule the following business day. Days, weeks came by no phone call. When I called the office I was told that was it procedure. So I repeated plan both Dr Fa and I discussed to front desk - exchange words happened finally my son was scheduled for his wisdom teeth extraction. The day of his procedure - procedure went well though the front desk staff was cold just sitting and waiting in the waiting room was very uncomfortable. I immediately called my general dentist to refer us to another oral surgeon for future. However, my son really felt very comfortable with Dr Fa and wanted to have the other wisdom teeth extraction done by him. I respected his wishes. Earlier this year my son returned for his upper wisdom teeth procedure, I already have set mind that I will break the ice this time. So I chatted a bit with the front desk staff, it was acceptable experience this time around. Time for my son to be released, my interaction with the back office staff Norma was amazing. She was very detailed explaining everything to me, the dos, don'ts - right then I felt comfortable. So I scheduled my consult as well as my daughter's consult at this office for two main reason Dr Fa and Norma. Weeks turned to months my consultation day - this time front desk staff a little better, Dr Fa very thorough as always, and the sense of humor awesomest then I saw Norma - I asked her if she's going to be there when I return for my procedure and response more likely she'll be assisting. The day of my procedure, nervous wreck, by this time front desk is better than ok - then I was called to the back and assisted by Norma. This is my first hand experience service at this office. Norma explained everything to me, she kept calm as the whole time. She communicate and remembered my concerns and questions and she communicated those to Dr Fa. Thank you Norma for taking a special care of me, I know I was a very special patient today and thank you Dr Fa for being patient with me and for treating as the only patient patient that matter that time not rushing the procedure because I'm specially complicated one. Looking back, if Norma was not in the room, I think my patient care experience would have been different. I'm very grateful she was my dental assistant. -Some recommendations - make sure you keep Norma; Dr Fa you're so awesomest, I'm pretty sure all your patients have the same feed back about you. Front desk staff, don't forget the patient(S), family members that are waiting in the waiting room. Offer water or something (not the patient that are NPO) or frequent check ins with them after all you are the first contact with the patient/ family member it sets the tone. If it weren't for my son's persistent on returning to Dr Fa (because Dr Fa is amazing) and Norma we would've transfer care elsewhere. The new office in Antioch is absolutely beautiful and especially clean, the staff were all welcoming and Dr. Fa made me feel 100% comfortable about the procedure. I have been putting off my extraction for years due to fear. Well day 2 into recovery and I feel great. Dr. Fa even called to check on me following the procedure. So I booked my kids an appointment for wisdom teeth removal about 1 month prior to the appointment date. I completed their new patient registration online and arrived on time for their evaluation appointment with Dr. Fa. We were called back to a patient care room where the Assistant proceeds to go over my kids' health history but some how the paper work was mixed up between my two kids, which was a major concern of mine. Then, I was told our appointment was with Dr. Scharfen. I then proceeded to asked who was Dr. Scharfen because I was referred to and scheduled with Dr. Fa? At this point I was disappointed with this office. Why didn't anyone call me to see if we wanted our appointment changed to a different doctor? And why was my children's paper work all mixed up causing concerns with medical history and allergies? I then asked to speak with Dr. Fa about my concern. He came in the room and just blamed his office manager for not calling me about the appointment switch and offered to wave the consult fee for the confusion. We decided to go a head and follow through with keeping our appointment for extraction even thought it would be with a different Doctor. The back office staff proceed to show me the procedure rooms and the recovery rooms and we spoke about how I would sit with once child in recovery while the other child was having surgery on surgery day. I was given a prescription for antibiotics for my kids and was verbally told one of my kids had to have a different antibiotic than they normally prescribed because of a medication allergy. I get to the pharmacy only to find out they prescribed a medication one of my sons was allergic to, which could have been a deadly mistake. On surgery day, I was upset because everything we spoke about in terms of how the process would work with me sitting with one child as the other was in surgery failed to happen, which made me feel as though something happened to my son and I was being held back from seeing him. I was not taken back to be with either of my kids until both children were finish, which again was not the process we discussed. This office needs some major work with communication, organization and attention to detail. Dr. Scharfen's works seems to be fine and my boys are doing well now but my only suggestion for her would be before signing off on a script that your staff puts in front of you make sure it's accurate. We could have had a major health problem with being prescribed a medication that he's allergic to. Dr. Fa really needs to take responsibility for the errors of his staff, don't throw them under the bus. You hired them! read more

Dr Jesse Fa, is highly professional, extremely sharp overall and he truly listens! I transferred my 11 year old from another surgeon who refused to listen to my request to not discuss details in front of my son, I went upset and emotional to this amazing surgeons office where the staff and Dr Fa himself were exceptional at hearing my requests and wishes for my anxiety filled son. Thank you SO much to the staff and Dr Fa for a really perfectly easy experience, my son who usually runs out of dentists offices after one bad experience, literally said to me 'that was so easy and painless, I didn't feel anything, was I just in there for 5 mins?' We had an outstanding experience with Dr. Scharfen. She was most patient with us and esp. my 8 YO daughter. My insurance changed & she is now out of network. Kay, in the office went ABOVE & BEYOND to call my insurance and breakdown what the difference in cost would be. I had a great experience with Dr. Scharfen. From my consultation appointment to getting my wisdom teeth extracted today it has been a pleasurable experience and the staff are all very friendly. They also allow you to get prescriptions filled a week ahead of time from any local pharmacy that way you don't have to worry about it the day of the procedure. Be careful with office staff. They don't do there job well. They won't call your insurance and follow up on billing. Dr Fa. Is good but if I didn't do my homework by calling my insurance and checking what they were going to pay out. I would have been out 265 dollars. The office staff was trying to convince me to have my daughters surgery last year but I told them I was going to reschedule because I had met my maximum and if I did it in 2017 I would get more paid. The office staff said the difference was going to be a dollar. That is pure irresponsibility on the office to mis direct the patient when they did not know what they were talking about. Be careful and if you do go make sure you call your insurance. It took me calling them to send out my check. Someone there is not doing there job. read more

Went to Dr. Fa for my daughter and he was wonderful. Decided to visit him again for my second daughter but was treated horribly by one of the members of the office staff. Instead of speaking to us respectfully about not allowing my daughters guide dog that she is training in the office, the woman in the office was rude and condescending. She kicked us out of the office waiting room and when I came back in to discuss it, she aggressively approached me. I prefer an office where you are treated with respect. I'm an office manager and I would never handle that situation in such poor taste. read more

I had a tooth extracted yesterday on 11/22/2016. Dr. Fa and his staff are amazing! I am very impressed with such a painless recovery as I was expecting to hurt and be extremely sore, but I just have normal healing pains. I really appreciate the gentle and kind approach of Dr. Fa and taking his time extracting the tooth rather than hurrying like most do. I can't say enough about Dr. FA and his staff. I literally just left his office and had to get on here to comment. I've had the misfortune of having more than a few teeth pulled. All experiences were stressful, painful and made me more apprehensive about dentists. This experience was completely different. Everyone was so nice from front office to back. Dr. Fa is by far one of the best dentist I have encountered. He didn't bounce back and forth between patients or if he did, I didn't know. He made me feel like I was his only priority at that time!!! When it came time to pay, I had an issue and instead of making me feel like a dead beat, we made an arrangement that was effortless and agreeable to both myself and the office. My friend could not praise him enough and it sounded too good to be true. Well....his staff was wonderful. From the friendly receptionist to the very congenial and able assistant. Dr. Fa seems nice, but I do not trust the billing person. The billing person would not give a written estimate for work to be done. She only reluctantly wrote it on a sticky note, but would not put it on a letterhead. I will not go back nor anyone from my family. If you are in need or an oral surgeon....look no further than Dr. Jesse Fa. I recently had to have a molar extracted and was recommended to Dr.Fa by both my general dentist and endodontist too. From the moment we met, I was very impressed with how conversational and patient Dr. Fa was. He took time to explain every part of the treatment to allay any fears or concerns, was gentle and took a caring interest to insure my comfort level at all times. He and is wonderful assistant, Geneva were a great team and made the entire extraction process go very smoothly. I was given detailed information regarding medications for pain and post extraction care to promote good healing. One tooth less, but wiser regarding my choice for an oral surgeon if needed again. This is kind of a unique review, because I have not seen Dr. Fa at his current practice. Instead I saw him when he was a resident working with Felice O'Ryan at Kaiser maxfac. I had double jaw surgery with Kaiser Oakland in 2014 while he was working along side Dr. O'Ryan. My surgery went awfully wrong. I went in to surgery with a simple symmetric class II overbite/overjet and a gummy smile. I came out twisted, yawed, canted, with only certain segments rotated and some not rotated, midlines way off, still class two both dental and skeletal. I was a very obvious mess, that no surgeon I've seen since can believe I got to leave the OR table like this let alone discharged from the hospital and continually passed over by Dr. O'Ryan and my maxfac team at each post op appointment (which were few and far between). Dr. Fa seemed to be heading up the case the second I checked in for surgery. He let my family know how I was, wheeled me to PACU recovery, wrote my long operative report, did my exam for discharge the next morning. 2+2=4 for me, and I have assumed since I woke up from surgery that he was the one to really do my surgery/case that day, and to this day I still am not sure how much supervision Dr. O'Ryan provided that day. But who knows what really happened while I was out. Regardless, I came out an obvious mess that should have never left the hospital, and he discharged me as a perfect class I, midlines and molars dead on, when I was very obviously NOT class I with anything lined up. I've had revision consults with some of the leading names in the business, and none of the surgeons I've seen can believe that my results were left to pass. It's been a long two years for me to get the mess I was left with fixed. The maxfac team at Kaiser totally abandoned me. They refused to see me for appointments to examine me and diagnose what was wrong after it became evident my results were catastrophic. I was abandoned, left broken, twisted, crooked in every direction possible. I had to find a whole new team on my own out of pocket. I had to have a complete re-treatment of my orthodontics, and just finally now had a revision surgery to try and fix the mess I was left with. My 4 upper front teeth have been trashed in the process, and will now require implants and restoration when I am done my revision treatment. I just got through with a successful revision surgery, and even after that I am still traumatized from my first surgical experience. I've been out thousands of dollars and I've lost pieces of me emotionally that I will never get back. I wish I can take my first round of ortho and jaw surgery experience back, but I can't. The only thing I can do now is urge people to do research when choosing their trusted treating physicians and make sure they get the best. I wish I had. read more

My 13 y.o. son had his first surgery experience while under Dr. Fa's care and I was very impressed with all the offers of assistance along with the follow up calls. Let me just start with Dr. Fa and his actual assistant were wonderful...That's where it ends. His office staff is rude and they have ended up billing me for over 3 times what they quoted me as owing. They had 3 months to verify with my insurance what the payment would be and failed to do so. I feel that they gave me the lower amount to get me to agree to the surgery (i would have done it either way but don't lie to me). When asked they stated it wasn't their problem. I made a partial payment (to make a point not because i needed to) and didn't receive another bill for 8 months. The day of the procedure i stood at the front counter for over 15 minutes waiting to check out while the office personnel dealt with their internet provider on the phone and she obviously felt that after seeing me if she just turned her back to me it would be like i wasn't standing there. If it wasn't for his office staff i would recommend him to all of my friends for their children but because of that i will not be recommending him to anyone. read more
