It's tough to come up with a 40th birthday gift for an estranged spouse. These days, the only thing we have in common is our children, so it seemed fitting to include them somehow. In a rare moment of clarity, I found a way to get this done, give business to a worthy photographer ( ahem, and friend) at the same time. I posed the idea to Tom, to do a photo shoot of my kids as a present for my wife and his energy and enthusiasm made me immediately think I made the right choice. We discussed locations and concepts based on what I had seen of his work. Tom had some fantastic ideas and was very receptive to my own ideas. Tom feels that the comfort of the subjects is important, so we decided to do an outdoor shoot at the park in the neighborhood where they grew up. The day came and although Tom had nothing to do with the weather, I couldn't help but feel that with the most beautiful fall day I'd ever seen, Tom has an in with Mother Nature. The shoot went flawlessly. He worked great with usually difficult kids and I could tell they felt at ease. My kids are into cosplay, where they like to dress up as their favorite characters. They loved that Tom incorporated their costumes into the shoot and couldn't wait for the pictures. And what pictures they were. I've never seen my kids look so good. The shots were classy, true and fun. I am more than pleased with the results and they were a big hit with everyone who got one. Tom uses an easy method for getting you your pics. He sets up a web page where you can view all shots and order them however you wish ( mugs, cards, photos, digital, etc) . With one click, a picture will be in your hands within hours. The overall experience with Tom, was one that I can't say enough good things about. If you have the need for such services and you are in the greater Philadelphia and South Jersey area ( or even beyond- it's worth it) make sure you check Tom out. When it came time to find a wedding photographer for our big day, it was a no brainer! We love you, Sweet Mango! On the day of, Ricky arrived much EARLIER than we paid for, because he wanted to capture as much of the getting ready process as possible. We're super grateful for this, and he got tons of great photos we would not otherwise have! From the moment he walked into our hotel suite, he was all action, camera out, and ready to take photos. For this day, and for all of our other shoots with Sweet Mango, he gave great directions on how to pose for photos, was so creative with how he framed his shots, and flexible and adapted to the sun/weather/background and whatever other obstacles may come his way. Even though we did not get a second shooter and he single handedly had to cover the entire venue and all 100 guests at our event, including an entire lion dance troupe, he rose to the occasion and did just that and much more. Idalia Photography has a distinct, high quality style... Alex and Jay's photos are light-filled and simply stated: BEAUTIFUL. One of the BEST decisions that we made for our June 2018 wedding was to book Alex and Jay. From the initial Skype interview, to our engagement shoot, to our wedding day, working with Idalia Photography was seamless and effortless. Alex was beyond friendly and professional throughout all of our communications by email and she was always available, flexible, and thorough every step of the way. On our wedding day, Alex and Jay worked seamlessly together and knew each other's every next move... I guess that's one benefit of a wife and husband team! They blended into the background most of the time, but also stepped up to give direction for certain shots and helped us to stay within our schedule as needed. Both Alex and Jay worked smoothly with our other vendors (if there were any issues- we didn't know about them!). They worked outside through temperature in the 90s without complaint or hesitation... and did everything possible to get the "best shot"... including laughing off when I accidently soaked Jay with my celebratory champagne spray (and still managed to capture the shot somehow!). From the details photos of our invitation/jewelry/flowers/venue to my flowing "veil shots" to our dance floor... every moment and emotion of our day was captured. We received about 100 "photographer's favorites" pictures while on our honeymoon (not even one full week after our wedding day!) and we felt like we were re-living our big day all over again.
