An interesting place for a gallery. We had a touch of serendipity when watching the TV, we were already going to visit Hastings to "cat sit" for some friends while they went on holiday and saw they were having a Quentin Blake exhibition! So we took the opportunity to visit while this was on.
It's easy to find on the sea front along the main road, if going by car it's very close to the big car park right at the end of the beach. We went in and were greeted by a polite receptionist who politely laughed at my joke about me wanting to pay as a "child". We paid our money to get in, £9 each for adults. We then went into the large exhibition area where the start of the Quentin Blake work was showing. The work shown in here were very large drawings to the theme of "The only way to travel". Where, if you're familiar with his work you will see many of the same ideas he's used in the illustrations in the Roald Dahl and other books he's made contributions to.
There was more of his work going on into a smaller room, then the paintings and art of other contributors were around the rest of the gallery.
Over all we very much enjoyed the gallery. The only negative was the gift shop, which didn't have anything that took our fancy at all! It was worth the cost of entry to see Quentin Blake's wonderful pictures and I highly recommend seeing it while it's still on until 15th October 2017! read more
