I was not prepared for what Jere's had to offer. There is SO much furniture in this warehouse. More than you expect. Think about a lot of furniture, now double that. So much. I met Jere. He introduced himself and then disappeared into the stacks of dressers. Somewhere. Time lost meaning. He wore suspenders and a newsie hat. I have no further details. I'm going to advise this: only go here if you have something in mind. Don't go to browse. I'm pretty slim and I think if I wore an additional 50lbs, I would not be able to navigate. We stop into this antique shop every time we are in Savannah. I used to love going there - loved wandering the aisles looking at long-discontinued and unusual pieces of furniture but this may be the last time. It was hot and there seems to be no airflow in the closed warehouse - the aisles have become more crowded and narrower over the years but now its so crowded, its nearly impossible to get down most aisle and there is so much furniture there, its hard to see whats there. We went down one aisle near the back and found mold growing inside, and on, several pieces of furniture - and with no airflow, the mold spores will continue to spread from piece to piece, a health hazard to employees and patrons and a death sentence for those antiques. After seeing that, I wouldnt purchase anything else here for fear of bringing mold into my home! read more

To me, Jere's is like a museum of furniture. They have furniture dating back to the 18th century (1700s)! That's pretty awesome. But on the other hand, this place is like an episode of Hoarders. While it's 33,000 square feet packed to the brim with elegant, majestic and ornate pieces of useful art (furniture), it's also quite tight and quite pricey. Many of the pieces have character (and scratches) and a few other pieces look like they're deteriorating. Your average piece of furniture in there looks like it's a few hundred dollars more than what the average person would pay, but that's okay because the sales people there are always willing to make deals. Sometimes you have to come in and barter with them for pieces over time. I would wager that on average you're looking at about 20-25% off per piece of furniture (depending on the piece). Realistically, you could spend an hour in this place looking at all the furniture pieces. I'm curious how they get some of the larger pieces out, especially the armoires. read more

At least 20,000 square feet packed to the gills with insanity. Any piece in this store would be the crown jewel at any lesser antique store. I had total sensory overload and couldn't focus on anything. The next thing was always pulling my attention away. I had to leave the store before my girlfriend pulled me back in to show me the perfect coffee table I had passed right by before and didn't even see it. The owner is exceedingly friendly and very cool. He knocked $50 off the table without me even asking. You could furnish Biltmore with equal quality at this place. If you are in the market for, or just like browsing antique tables, dressers and other wood furniture, this is a must see. Jere's is full of thousands of pieces of antique furniture. Grandfather clocks, kitchen sets, gorgeous bars, magazine racks, a full floor dedicated to chairs, and more. Three stories of furniture! But that's pretty much it. If you aren't in the market for furniture, then this is probably not your stop. As for atmosphere, the floor is all jacked up, so watch your step. And mold is definitely a factor in parts of the building, so if you have mold sensitivities, best not to go. Staff is very interactive. Very nice, but one was super chatty and we just wanted to browse at our own pace without feeling like someone else was tagging along. Pricing erred on the high side, but we were told prices are negotiable. Prices did seem consistent for like items, so that's always good to see. read more

If you're into really top notch quality imported antique wood furniture, look no further than Jere's. The place is huge, just goes on and on and has incoming shipments weekly. There are all sorts of tables, chairs, complete bars, a huge assortment of grandfather and grandmother clocks, all sorts of things to numerable to mention with finds that are both expected and unexpected. For example I looked at a complete bar. The price was $38,000. Now, that may seem pricey but in fact it was more than reasonable, astonishingly so for what it was. First, there is no way one could duplicate it with its intricate hand carvings and solid mahogany wood for $38,000 and second, I've seen nearly the same at other places but of lesser quality for nearly double that amount. From the outside, Jere's is deceiving. It just don't look nearly as big as it actually is inside and there is no way one would think it could contain such a vast inventory or that the inventory would have such a high rate of turnover. For the antique furniture shopper it's a gem. All of the antiques are European and English originals. They don't carry inferior reproductions or replicas others so commonly imported from India, Pakistan, Vietnam, China or like areas, but they do have a "bespoke" workshop in which they painstakingly produce exact copies using period techniques of workmanship along with hundred year old real woods. There is also a good number of varying European chandeliers which they have either wired in order to electrify or rewire in order to meet modern day standards of safety, all at what I would consider to be reasonable in price but at what amounts to being a practical steal compared to what you might find amongst the antique shops of other places, particularly those of New York City. read more

I rounded up and offered $300 because of that. He denied my offer and tried to mansplain how percentages work. In my experience, you make a low ball offer and work it out from there. Jere just wanted to hear himself talk. The item was probably worth less anyways. Everything he has is overpriced for an antique warehouse. Jere acted like he was selling The Ark of Covenant. His counteroffer was the original price! 825! Anyways, he chased me out of the store screaming and tried to break into my car through the window. It was traumatizing. read more

Jere's Antiques is an incredible experience and a must visit location for anyone visiting Savannah. Even if you are not an antique collector, it is a well worth your time to work your way through the seemingly endless maze of incredible antique bars, desks, tables, pianos, and other treasures. It is better than a museum, because you can actually put your hands on these beautiful pieces that range from Art Deco to Colonial. Many a piece has caught my eye; and a few have made it home with me. If I had more space in my home, I would have many more. Beyond the incredible, and deep selection of antiques, the staff is incredibly helpful, and Jere himself is readily available to help you locate just what you are looking for. He is honest, knowledgeable, personable, and the definition of a southern gentleman. I have been visiting Jere's for almost 30 years and it is always a highlight of every visit that I make to Savannah. Not sure what all the hype is about. It's a giant warehouse full of antique furniture - mostly in fair to poor condition - and overpriced to boot. Not to mention the owner acted like a rude know-it-all to us when we told him what we were searching for. He told us what we were looking for "couldn't be found" in the price range we wanted. Not so!! We found exactly the chairs we were looking for in phenomenal condition from a lovely antiques dealer in England, AND had them imported for a fraction of what we could've bought them for in worse condition at this place. Unless you want to walk around a giant musty, dirty hotbox warehouse to look at overpriced furniture in poor condition, skip this place! read more

Soooo, I wandered here in hopes of finding a small and cramped antique store but ended up seeing a literal world of furniture. Nothing else to see here, so if furniture isn't your game then head on out. Though we weren't looking for furniture, I work for a furniture company so I've learned to appreciate it. In fact, I would even go so far as to venture I know a great deal more (technically speaking) about furniture than the average person. It's literally my life, day after day, after all. If there is a wardrobe that can take you to Narnia or the Room of Requirement... Then this place has it. Somewhere... You're on your own, though, since there are literally thousands of feet of furniture being sold here. And so much of it is insanely beautiful! Elegant finials, hand-carved feet, original upholstery still intact from over a hundred years ago. Prices are high, sure, but a lot of the furniture is made of legitimate solid wood, not that wimpy rubber wood or particle board that is so cheap to come by. The things you buy here will actually last, and look elegant and timeless throughout the years. As the dust scatters from your passing like snow, even though you have no budget or real interest in the furniture, a weird magic seems to take hold of you. You're staring at the elegant hand-carved bar and pretending you own your own pub, you're looking at the huge 5 foot tall chair and pretending you're the next ruler of the 7 Kingdoms, you're opening wardrobes in the hope that they will take you somewhere magical... Even if you aren't really into antiques, this i\s a neat place to go in and look around. Jere's in an old warehouse on Jefferson, right near River Street. It's huge and closes at 5pm every day so if you want to get a look at everything, go in by at least 4pm. It's 2 or 3 stories, and has multiple upstairs rooms that are unlinked so just when I thought I was done looking around, I 'd discover another staircase leading up to yet another room FULL of Furniture. Oh yea, did I mention this store is full of nothing but furniture. I think Jere has more antique furniture in his warehouse/store than all of the antique furniture in all of the homes in Savannah combined. I'm talking about a room full of wooden chairs stacked on top of each other and hanging from the ceiling- hundreds!, 10 or 20 of those huge gorgeous antique pub bars- that I would love to have in my home but would look ridiculous, dressers, armories, dining room tables, mirrors, etc. The one downside of Jere's is it is EXPENSIVE. I'm not going to say it's not worth it because I don't deal in antique furniture, but I will say I can get similar elsewhere for much, much less. I've heard from a few people he'll cut pretty good deals, but even then it's more than I'm willing to pay. Still, I love to go in and look around the old warehouse. read more
