At 34 weeks pregnant and only 6 weeks to go, you would think I could manage to ignore the pain and suffering I was experiencing since around 22 weeks just a little longer...but I finally listened to my doctor after every other obvious treatment (tylenol, staying off my feet, support belts) to eliminate the Severe Symphysis Pubic Dysfunction (SPD) and Belly pains (from what ended up being 5 finger ab separation-"diastasis recti") failed to suffice....and check out acupuncture for the first time in my life. What did I have to lose? I was desperate for any improvement as 6 more weeks seemed like an eternity! I went to the first available acupuncturist I could find within my insurance network and after 1 visit, I didn't feel any improvement, nor did I expect to after 1 session, but since I was desperate, I thought I might as double down and try another acupuncturist the same week that a friend recommended and up my chances. This visit was with the incredible Jeremy Rothenberg. On our first meeting, he allowed ample time to listen to my concerns and issues and was genuinely anxious to do everything he could to rid me of my ailments right then and there. After that first session with him, it was like "MAGIC!" I exclaimed as I got up from his acupuncture table and felt NO pain instantly. It seemed impossible since my pain was so severe, I was mystified and amazed at the same time. The pain reappeared later that day but to have been relieved of it for even hours, was simply a miracle. I quickly booked up Jeremy's calendar and returned as often as I could for these miraculous sessions and with each session, the absence of pain grew longer and before I knew it, I delivered my healthy baby boy (with a much easier delivery than my first which I wouldn't be surprised is also a result of my acupuncture treatments with Jeremy). Thankfully, after the birth, my SPD and belly aches disappeared immediately and entirely, but once I am out of the newborn phase and more independent, I plan to return to Jeremy's office to maintain my overall good health and I recommend him to everyone I can in the meantime! MAGIC I TELL YOU :) read more

Jeremy is amazing. He's helped me more than any other doctor has helped me before. He's a great listener and he really gets to know you rather than just your symptoms. read more

Went to Jeremy a few times last year based on a slick website and lots of 5 star reviews. Given all the 5 star reviews I don't feel bad providing a lower one. I've only been to a few acupuncturist before, and had a few "somatic acupuncture" sessions. I chose this modality because I actually had a few very good experiences with somatic emotional reexperincing type of therapies, guided meditations by trained therapists that also do bodywork. Yes its a little new age, but I had a few done at a treatment center in Arizona once and wanted to find someone in the Bay Area that might be able to approximate. Jeremy asked me a few very generic questions during a session that were directed at "getting to the source" (or something). He also prescribed some chinese herbs without really telling me what was in them, or what they did, at a level of scientific understanding that I trusted. "Calming wind" is not a scientifically valid therapeutic mechanism -- and although I do believe many of the herbs used in chinese medicine ARE of therapeutic value, it's unclear to me why in this day and age (and we certainly should not accept) practitioners use these antiquated metaphors. The acupuncture was on the expensive side and of unclear benefit to my insomnia. The somatic acupuncutre was near-uesless and all I could think about was "are you kidding me" when I heard the series of questions. And this is coming from someone who has received significant benefit from trained psychiatrists, Clinical Psychologists, and others. FInally, he had a really offputting and disturbing smugness/arrogance, wasn't particularly friendly, and I just didn't trust him I'm sorry to say (though he gave me no particular reason not to besides the above). **Update** Jeremy graciously offered to refund my money after I posted my review, which I appreciated (and most certainly did not expect, given that I wrote this review 9 months after service after receiving a marketing email from him). And I should stress that this review was specifically about the Somatic Acupuncture specialty he markets, NOT general acupuncutre which he also offers. While I won't be removing my negative review as he requested after I accepted his refund offer, as I find that unambigiously ethically dubious, I hope this update provides some clarity.** read more

I found Jeremy here on Yelp (thanks Yelpies!) and am so impressed w him. My first appointment I was in TERRIBLE longterm pain in several places in my body (not to mention stiff and tense). Over the course of a few weeks of twice weekly treatments, I am now in NO pain, and my stiffness has been significantly reduced. Jeremy is so smart, and knows his business. I tried 3 other acupuncturists in SF before finding Jeremy; two were ineffectual and one was not clean (yuck!). You will know when he puts the first needle in that you are in the presence of a master healer. Hot tip: don't try driving there; parking sucks in that 'hood. It's a quick and pleasant walk from Muni to his office. read more

Saw him as a groupon customer (for a tui na massage) and the price was too high for the service that I received. If I paid full price, I would have been very unhappy. For people who have never had an actual tui na or other types of deep tissue massage it would have been fine. When asked what he was actually doing when I felt his fingers just short of a pressure point, he said that his style was a mix of different types of massage. OK. I've had better is all I can say about him. Go to a real Eastern Based practitioner if that is what you are looking for. If you are looking for a basic light massage, Jeremy was fine read more

Not only is Jeremy a fellow Badger alum, which would have been worth the first two stars from me, but he is an amazing, healing and calming presence. I've only been to one session (for a groupon) but am definitely going back - for psoas and IT band issues in my training and releasing accumulated stress. I've had therapy and acupuncture separately- my session with Jeremy was the best of both- visualization and energy work combined with acupuncture and deep tissue massage work. I felt lighter than I have in as long as I can remember after my session- and loved that he combined the letting go of old emotional/mind patterns with their release physically. I can't wait to go back. read more

Jeremy helped my pain more than I could imagine. Very professional and kind. I highly recommend his acupuncture skills.

I was fortunate to come across Jeremy through a close friend referral who just like me thinks of him highly. I have had so far a couple of sessions where we discussed on health strategies and practical ways to get there. And more importantly had acupuncture for the first time which at first did not seem like anything out of the ordinary was happening. But on the second session having come to it with a heavy sinus congestion, he managed to temporary clear it up as well as providing a very noticeably deep amount of relaxation during a stressful moment I was going through. I look forward to our next sessions with him. Thank you Jeremy. read more

Jeremy is genuinely interested in how I'm feeling and takes excellent notes, remembers things I've said, and pays attention overall. The treatments so far have been a combination of talking/listening, pulse-studying, massage, cupping, accupuncture, and chinese herbs. I am curiously fascinated by the various treatments, but not anxious because of my relaxed trust in Jeremy's desire and ability to take good care of me. Jeremy is blessed with the gift of healing hands in a true sense all the way from his heart to his fingertips. I am experiencing exceptional energy and a feeling of vitality, increased focus, and overall balance in after only two sessions. I plan to make this a regular part of my preventive health practice and am so happy to have found this connection to Jeremy! read more

I highly recommend anyone to simply reach out to Jeremy to first share what ailment/symptoms you may have and really listen to how he responds. For me, it was inspiring and intriguing to listen to him and it made me feel proactive and hopeful in pursuing a remedy for my symptoms vs allowing myself to continue with the discomfort passively as I have been for so long. I was brought up entirely on western medicine, but have been seeking alternate options and I really connected with Jeremy's relaxed and peaceful demeanor and the way he sees and approaches treatment. I felt like I was no longer alone in dealing with my pain and discomfort and that I really had someone by my side who cared and can affect positive change in ways I never knew about relative to the western approach of in and out 10 minute office visits and prescription of pain meds to mask the pain, but not address the root cause. Jeremy has made me feel hopeful about taking on my pain and beating it vs being a victim of it and this mindshift has been absolutely invaluable to me both in dealing with this specific issue, but truly in how I look at and manage other challenges in my life. read more

Three different acupuncturists in two different states were not able to provide the results I've experienced with Jeremy. I really can't say enough wonderful things about him. Because my health struggles are menstrual in nature, I wasn't sure if I would really feel comfortable talking with a man about it. I am happy to report that Jeremy is gentle, attentive, and sensitive to the fears and anxieties that come with chronic illness. During our sessions together he is entirely present, listening to me on all levels - spoken and unspoken. His diagnostic instinct is spot on, getting to effective courses of treatment from day one. After 20 years of monthly misery, I have had nearly pain-free periods for the past three months. Amazing. My spouse now sees Jeremy too - and after 10 years on heavy sleep medication, is sleeping soundly all night without any pharmaceuticals or herbs. Whatever is ailing you - I encourage you to consult Jeremy. He is exceptional. read more

I recently visited Dr. Rothenberg for some tightness in the chest. As a 26 year old, I was quite scared going in. After discussing my diet, habits, and work schedule, it would seem like stress was the culprit. I received an acupuncture treatment and cupping. Dr. Rothenberg was very caring and gentle. He explained exactly what he was doing as the treatment progressed. The results: I've felt so much better over the past few weeks. Immediately after I left, my eyesight improved! My chest is feeling better and the diet and exercise changes have made a difference in my lifestyle choices. This doctor is top notch. 5 stars. read more

Had my first ever acupuncture treatment today and couldn't be more pleased. I've suffered from sciatic pain for over a year and been in PT, 3 ortho offices, and seen a chiropractor. After my appointment today is the least pain I've felt in months. Jeremy has exceptional bedside manner, and clearly knows his stuff to get results. His first appointment includes a full discussion of your medical history, and a thorough evaluation as well as (at least in my case) a brief Chinese massage targeting pressure points. The actual acupuncture was pretty darn close to comfortable. All in all, a great first experience. I'm eager to go back again next week! read more

Jeremy's method of treatment is comprehensive. Chinese medicine looks at the body as a whole, and he has been instumental in healing/resolving medical issues which have not only pagued me for years, but made my western GP just scratch his head and order a bunch of tests. (all inconclusive) Im a skeptical person. I didnt put too much faith in Chinese medicine, mainly because of how it's been co-opted in the west by a bunch of new-age know-nothings. I didn't expect the treatments to work. That was an incorrect assesment. Thanks. Jeremy! read more

Jeremy is a true healer. Although Eastern medicine was literally foreign to me prior to visiting Jeremy, the results speak for themselves. I left my first acupuncture session totally relaxed and focused, a feeling that stayed for about a month. In my second session, he incorporated more pulse reading and energy work that was, in one hyphenated word, MIND-BLOWING. Sorry I didn't warn you about the all caps, but any problems you might have with them, you can probably go to Jeremy and he'll likely be able to cure you. I knew Jeremy had an intuitive, honed gift for healing after that second session. And I had already started recommending him to friends after the first, so seriously, go to Jeremy Rothenberg, not just for acupuncture but for any healing work. Read Tres F.'s review to see how sessions typically begin, but Jeremy takes special care to find whatever combination of therapies personally works with you best. read more

I think that Jeremy is fantastic. I first went to him to treat severe back pain, which I've had on and off for nearly 25 years, and for which Western medicine (including physical therapists) has never been very helpful. He gave me immediate and sustained relief. Since that episode of back pain, he has treated me for a few other issues, some of which he healed over the course of several sessions, one of which he literally healed in one session. Jeremy also takes a lot of time to ask about symptoms, improvements since the last treatment, other factors that may be affecting problem areas, and never seems in a rush during these dialogues. He is very good at explaining his methods, meridians, etc., in a way that makes sense to my very Western way of thinking. I am the son and grandson of doctors and have great respect for MDs and had a nearly innate skepticism of acupuncture. No longer. Jeremy's treatments work, and he is a wonderful person to boot. I would recommend him to anyone. Also, his office (he somewhat recently moved offices) is really nice -- great design, clean, comfortable, relaxing and peaceful. read more

Just had first appointment and I feel that Jeremy can definitely help me. I've been to acupuncturists before and it took me a little while to change back into the "eastern" way of thinking and after talking with Jeremy it reminded me of how western society in it self causes so many health problems. He seems very deep and knowledgable and seems willing to teach. The best at inserting needles I have seen, could not even feel them. One of the first places he touched he asked if it hurt but the way he said it he already knew it was painful in that spot, definitely knows what he's doing. Office is big, warm, and very comfortable. read more

Jeremy has been awesome! Very caring, personable and a great healer/acupuncturist. He's a good listener and always has such encouraging words- he's been truly wonderful. What a gem! read more

I got acupuncture from Jeremy for a few months for a pinched nerve. The treatment worked very well, and made the problems go away! Plus he's a nice and fun guy to chat with. Highly recommended! read more

Jeremy is amazing and supportive. I had a cough that wouldnt let me breathe! Months of an inhaler and Advair and antibiotics and then another cold hit and I was losing hope. After one treatment I didnt need the inhaler and the herbs and treatments just kept me on the upward trajectory. I highly recommend Jeremy for healing and kind reminders to slow down and be respectful of our need for rest and rejuvenation. If you have had acupuncture in the past and weren't sure if it really worked (like me)... give it another try - this is the real deal and it is powerful stuff! read more

I found Jeremy through Living Social, and am so glad I did. He talked me through what I was feeling and I instantly felt comfortable around him. I didn't care if I cried, laughed or got anxious talking about some of the topics that were brought up in our sessions. He is so calm and friendly and understanding -- and I love that he will tell you in the nicest way possible exactly what you need to hear to continue to heal yourself. Highly recommended! read more

Jeremy is a wonderful healer who has a great sense of your holistic well being. He has been incredibly helpful for my teeth/jaw clenching as well as breathing, stress management, anxiety and just general positive mood and health. I'm certain that new patients will find his care to be attentive, gentle and healing for both specific issue treatment as well as longer-term management of more persistent issues. I have had acupuncture, cupping and taken supplemental herbs and find all to be helpful. I had been to acupuncturist for a few months before Jeremy and didn't see any real results nor find it relaxing, but could not have a more different experience here - I leave every session relaxed and calm after having gone into a deep nap (no matter how frenzied my state) and have seen meaningful improvement over time. Highly recommend! read more

Jeremy is a healer. He's about more than just your physical state and delves into what is at the cause of pain and disease rather than just treat the symptoms. He is intuitive, caring and very talented. read more

Jeremy is an amazing listener, from your speaking and emoting to your pulse. From his precise and nuanced acupuncture, my clenching and pain has subsided considerably. I have been seeing Jeremy for more than one year, having been plagued for over 20 years by debilitating migraine headaches. Without question, Jeremy's periodic acupuncture treatments have brought me nearly complete relief. Having suffered for so long without any effective treatment, Jeremy's acupuncture has had an extraordinary impact on my well-being. Thankfully, I have also clicked with Jeremy as a healthcare advisor and as a person. He cares, communicates and respects my time. A medical relationship is very personal and I am gratified to have found Jeremy. read more

When you go to see a health practitioner, you want to someone who is competent at his craft. In addition to this, it is comforting to be treated by someone who is a calm, and grounding presence. Jeremy is all these things. He treats your immediate symptoms, as well as any longer-term issues. He is present, thoughtful and effective in his treatments. I highly recommend Jeremy. You have found your acupuncturist. read more

I went to Jeremy as a result of purchasing a Groupon (first session in Jan 2011). Needless to say, I've continued my sessions with him. He has such a calm and inviting presence that it's easy to tell him almost everything. I've seen other acupuncturists and can say his approach is quite different and much more effective. He has a unique intution for honing in on problem areas. I can give him a general sense of the issue and he'll find the source with the trigger points. I always leave each session calm and relaxed. Sometimes, I'll have to chill out in the car and come to before driving off. Definitely give Jeremy a try! Daniel read more

Great find. Jeremy is a thoughtful, gentle and professional mind/body healer. I started seeing him for pain in my leg/back when I was training for a marathon--he helped get me well enough to run the race. He's an acupuncturist *and* trained bodyworker which is nice as he can combine various techniques, which has helped in my leg situation. I plan to continue seeing him on a regular basis for general well being maintenance. And hey...he has a special on his prices through end of June, so it's light on the wallet right now! read more

Jeremy has been a driving force behind the positive health changes I've had since I met him. I really enjoyed Dr. Rothenberg's treatments; I did not expect him to be such an expert in acupuncture and massage. The massage he gave me left me feeling incredibly rejuvenated and refreshed. Jeremy has been an amazing resource for my patients. As a Chiropractor it is a great help to my patients to have someone as knowledgeable and caring as Jeremy to help unblock and rebalance old injury patterns which allows them the ability to stay in alignment for longer periods of time. This is my second review of Jeremy Rothenberg. It has been almost one year since I started the acupuncture treatments with Jeremy. We've now settled into regularly scheduled treatments every 2 weeks. My weight is still down, my pain level is still extremely low. The fog I was in from all the pain meds taken over the years is gone. No longer do I rely on popping a pill to ease my pain. As long as I watch my diet, am careful with my body movements and realize that there are limits, my life is much different than before I started. As long as the VA allows treatment, I will continue to receive them. Thank you Jeremy for a new pain free outlook on life. read more

I had a debilitating migraine. Jeremy used a few select acupuncture points and his amazing healing ability to make it go away. Not only that, but I stood up from the table and could actually see and think more clearly (than before the migraine!) WOW. Jeremy is amazing. He has a calming, healing energy and knew exactly what to do to alleviate my acute back pain in two simple visits. (the pain was greatly reduced after the first visit, and completely gone after the second.) He is now also treating me with herbs for female stuff and overall fatigue, and I am feeling remarkably better after only a couple of days of taking the herbs. Some practitioners just do their jobs - but Jeremy is a true healer, and an incredibly nice guy. He seems sincerely interested in me personally, and in making a positive difference in my health and well being, without being preachy. I agree with all of the glowing reports here on yelp - and then some. Thank goodness I found him. PS- I suffer from severe scoliosis and have seen multiple mainstream and non-mainstream practitioners over the years - trust me, I can spot the gifted ones - and Jeremy is truly, truly gifted. read more

I bought a Mamapedia Sweet Deal because I was having back problems (as in it was so bad it was difficult to walk). Although I had booked a massage, upon arriving, Jeremy did a quick consult and decided that acupuncture would be the best course. Now, I'd never done acupuncture, but I was willing to give it a try. I am SO glad I did. I already felt amazing after the first treatment, and booked a second one right away. I haven't had any problems with my back after the second treatment - and I'm pretty much singing the praises of Jeremy and acupuncture to everyone I meet. Thanks, Jeremy! read more
